I made my own leak tester using some items I had laying around my workshop. This tool will help diagnose if you have combustion gas in your engines coolant.
Does anyone know what block test fluid is comprised of? Is it anything more than water with blue dye added? Can Windex substitute? BTW FYI nobody tells you that blue block test fluid that has been used and has turned the green-yellow color from a positive test result can be left in an open container for a short while and after the combustion gas outgases from it, the test fluid will return to the original blue color and can be reused, so you don't need to discard used block test fluid. Thanks.
You are a legend! The kits are like $200 here in Australia! When I found out they use bromothymol blue and it's like $6 I knew some genius would have worked out how to test. Hope you got ur car sorted, it's shit when they go wrong hey. Now I'm just praying I don't have a cracked head!
Thank you, the car is all sorted again. Fresh rebuild on my engine and doing the break in procedure now! Best of luck to you. I hope your cylinder head is good too. Thank you for watching!
thank you. i am doing this now. I actually bought the block tester thing but using your method to confirm. What is better about your method, is that the test fluid is far away from the coolant. If the coolant is boiling and you have lots of combustion gases mixed in, it is difficult to ensure that you are only sucking the gases and not accidentally sucking up coolant (with the store bought tester). good job and thanks.
Thank you very much. I'm glad you found this helpful. I didn't want to buy a tester so I got creative. Thanks for watching and hopefully you don't have any gases in your coolant.
Your welcome, some parts stores do a loan a tool program too where you can borrow it. The only catch is they take your credit card number for collateral. Glad the video helped and thanks for watching.
