I built a firewood processor for my slab wood but I suspect it'll work great for round logs too.

For cutting slab wood like that I would think about using a TCT drop saw. I have a 12" TCT saw blade in my abrasive steel cut off saw and it has done tens of cubic metres without needing oil, 2 stroke or sharpening. With some fiddling I have cut through up to 8" diameter wood and also old sleepers. I have a 15" blade I want to put on the saw but I need to fab up a guard. With that on I should be able to nearly dock a sleeper in 1 pass.

Check you out upping your game with a processor stand. That thing is a beauty. She works great too eh ? Great video buddy 👍

WOW!! Simple, inexpensive, and keeps you from having to constantly bending over!!! Even if it only works for slabs it would be worth it, but I would agree with you that it will also work for round logs too. I don't know about you, but for me anything that will keep me from having to constantly bend over to put pieces on the splitter is the key, and even if you ran it by yourself, you could load up the second conveyor and then move to the splitter without bending over to pick up the pieces!! I think you have a gamechanger for cutting firewood while saving your back at he same time!
@BigelowWoodcraft
@BigelowWoodcraft 9 месяцев назад
I like everything you said about it. My back gets sore just like every other older person when cutting wood. This really made it nice. My only complaint is the left hand cut. I am not as coordinated with my left and the sawdust covers you. I have not been able to come up with a better way of mounting to saw that I think that would be good on the right. I'm thinking of something like the Wellingstien mounts. Thanks for the comment.
@timscartoys9321
@timscartoys9321 9 месяцев назад
@@BigelowWoodcraft I don't think that your mount is bad, but you have it set up to pull slabs with your right hand and to cut with your left. What about putting the log deck on the side where you are standing, and your saw on the other side?? That way you would move slabs down the conveyor with your left hand, then hold them and cut with your right?? After you start cutting with your right hand, you can modify your mount to be a little more ergonomic if needed??
@terryatpi
@terryatpi 9 месяцев назад
No bending over ! I love it. Looks like it works great. When I was a kid 1972 dad built me an ice boat. We used three saw blades as runners. I remember not being able to drill then ( hardened ). New better drill technology or did you burn a hole in it ? Btw I outran our 18 horse bombardier lol. Good times. Great video
@BigelowWoodcraft

It wasn't too bad to drill through. Lots of coolant. I did have to sharpen my drill but once. That's a great idea about the ice sled...dang. I just threw away an old bar.
@Mountaintoptractor
@Mountaintoptractor 7 месяцев назад
I have a very similiar project I'm building now...maybe consider adding a 4x4 or 6x4 in front of of where the saw is cutting wood, this would move the wood 4-6" away fr9m the pivot where the saw is attached and avoid the awkward shoulder angle at the last part of the cut. I think it would work. Great job!
@BigelowWoodcraft
@BigelowWoodcraft 7 месяцев назад
I switched out around and cut in the other side now and have it a bit more stream lined. I now use a winch to pull along the logs. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@Mountaintoptractor
@Mountaintoptractor 7 месяцев назад
@BigelowWoodcraft that's what mine has, the winch is mounted to a tree with a snatch block approx 8' up the winch cable then connects to a big set of log tongs. The winch cable is up high si I never have to worry about hitting it, I have been watch8ng for a set of used rollers, I put down some 1/4" plastic sheeting to help the trees slide in the meantime. From cutting to trailer I have a down hill slope that the logs roll into truck bed trailer, where my splitter stands vertical. I built the stands out of pallets its temped togather so I can use it and modify it and tweak it before building permanent version.
@BigelowWoodcraft

@Mountaintoptractor
@Mountaintoptractor 7 месяцев назад
@BigelowWoodcraft best I can say is it's a few months out, I had to make all my videos private due to an issue with the county here that is currently unresolved, long story short they destroyed a bunch of my property and were trying to use videos of the land as time-lapse to fix less, so I put them all private until it is resolved. I will be making one in the coming weeks and posting it as it is a long ways from any area they have messed with.

Good afternoon Jerry. I really like the design and build of your firewood processor, but I was curious about the why the saw was mounted to the left? Are you left handed?
@BigelowWoodcraft
@BigelowWoodcraft 9 месяцев назад
No I'm not left handed. In fact I do not like it on this side. I couldn't figure a good way to mount it right handed. The pin I feel would be too long if I reversed it and have too much play. I'm scheming up a new bracket to mount to three other side. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

Can you line up 3 or 4 slabs and cut all at once and have her put 2 of those cut-offs on the splitter at once
@BigelowWoodcraft
@BigelowWoodcraft 6 месяцев назад
I do that sometimes I'm still learning how to use it. The problem with stacking and spitting with this splitter is the wedge is only about 5 or 6 inches high so if the slabs are 2 thick they kick out. It was her first time running the splitter. She's starting to figure it out.

I actually did think about cutting the 4x6 on a taper to help roll logs down to the conveyor. Now I'm thinking about the other conveyors I have turned 90 degrees so it would roll down the conveyor to the cut off conveyor. Not sure if that makes sense at all.
