Hi Mark Thanks for the video. I'm newer to plowing but had startup issues 2 weeks ago when hooking up. My setup is a little different, but same concept. Drain fluid, new screen, clean my o-ring, clean magnet, reinstall. Old screen was 95-99% plugged up. Works awesome now. Ready to go!! Thanks again!!

Sir: Thanks so much for posting this! I just did a strip-down and filter clean on my Extreme V (very different pump setup) which was acting up. But the process was completely intuitive after watching your video. Stripped the whole thing down, cleaned everything including electrical contacts, etc. Plow working like new. Saved myself a trip to the plow dealer and a bunch of time and money thanks to your video! Now bring on the 6 - 8" they're promising Tuesday! Have a great New Year!

Thanks I watched your video after having the exact problem you described. Screen in the reservoir was filthy with ice. Cleaned it and the reservoir performs like new again. I wanted to also mention that I use Dexron ATF and have for years.

That was one excellent video, Mark. I have a virtually identical system. I got the motor off and the pump out without damaging the gasket. Fortunately I was able to drain the oil using the hex plug underneath the reservoir. The filter was gummed up as yours was and I was able to clean it using brake parts cleaner which I had plenty on hand. One thing I found which I was not expecting, there was a small bar magnet that came up with the pump (I can send pictures.) I have not been able to figure out if it is part of the system. My guess is it was left there by a previous owner or the folks who moved my plow from my F250 to my Silverado 2500. Perhaps you can comment on that. P.S. I live in a neighboring state and today we are getting a mix of rain and snow, so conditions are similar. One minor difference: my electrical connections were not 9/16, but smaller. No biggie, I did not try to find the exact size, just used an adjustable wrench. I did subscribe to your channel. (P.S. I have the identical green Tupperware bucket, LOL!)

Was just gifted a F250 super duty with mmII plow, never used one before. Raises slow and hitchy and now side to side will not work. It has sat for 4 years in a previous life. I will do what you have done in the video and see if it helps. Thanks, video was very well done.

i would have put some RTV between the pump motor and the base where that old gasket was.... I think you were right with the assumption of the water/moisture getting in through there

Clean the whole pump out, replace fluid with Amsoil ISO 22 w- 4oz of Marvin's Mystery Oil. I have run 15 plow trucks and over the last 5 years no freeze ups. Good rule of thumb is to change fluid after each end of season. May seem like a waste to some but a good insurance to the rest of us. Replace before it breaks down!
@LoneWolfSnowplowing
@LoneWolfSnowplowing 4 года назад
Frank Stupak that’s a bad rule of thumb. You change it right before the beginning of the season to get rid of any moisture accumulated while it was on storage. As for your fluid cocktail, lol.

Great video brother. Thanks for posting . Its helped me in the past. I'm having a different problem.. but similar symptoms.. My motor will engage when I use the controller, but I have no lift, or angle. My plow headlights work. I checked the 10amp fuse in my 6 pin controller harness. Was fine. I checked for loose connections. I found corrosion. I disconnected all connections and brought them back to bare metal, Including washers and nuts. My solenoid looked worn out so I replaced regardless. W/ engine running, I have 14.78 on the solenoid. Still same results. Motor will engage, plow wont lift or angle. I pulled motor. Drained hydro tank, removed pump. Cleaned filter. Cleaned tank. Refilled tank with 1 quart of blue Fisher fluid. Same thing. Motor engages, no lift or angle. All that's left is the 3 solenoids in the valve body correct? Am I forgetting something? I have a miniute mount 1 ..2 plug system. If someone has an opinion I surely would appreciate one. Thanks

have you you checked the orange/black stripe wire, it's the wire for ground for the systems!! it's ground for the headlight, the solenoid for pump, ground for the controller...i believe its grounds to neg battery cable on motor, grounds again at solenoid,, head light ground wire...let me know if i can help..

@@jeffmartin9248 hi Jeff I'm at a total loss . I made a new ground one.off the motor ground and that produce same results. Then I made a ground directly off battery to motor neg.. and then ran a neg jumper cable between. The 3 ground points on S1 S2 S3 on the valve body. All the solenoids magnetize. All test complete on continuity tester.

Man, that looks just like a Western pump. Too bad they don't have a drain plug on the bottom and then we could change the oil a little easier. Water, salt and grit get in everywhere as the assembly is right up there where all the business is happening. Good tips Mark.

FYI for other viewers, I have used a couple ounces of isopropyl gas line antifreeze mixed in the reservoir. You may have to do this occasionally if your system seems prone to condensation. Isopropyl is great because it is non-injurious to o rings and rubber components.

Take a 3-liter soda container, cut the cap-opening end off, slide it over the motor with the bottom end of the container up (obviously). Keeps rain and moisture from seeping into the motor, has worked for me for years. Shared this hack with an engineer at Fisher, he was impressed.

@@nogripes You're welcome, I'm a Mainer who chose to live on the side of a mountain, my old '79 Chevy and Fisher MM1, save me countless hours of shoveling, when the plow doesn't work, I get an instant anxiety attack, nobody needs that. The plastic soda bottle hack was a lifesaver. Waiting until tomorrow morning to plow out of this storm, fortunately it was "only" 1 foot of snow. Happy plowing!!

do mine 2 times a season, had same issue with bottom drain plug purchased Erwin extractor set worked like charm, I always fill it in motor hole while its off no reason not to way easier. it will always weep out of fill plug no matter what fluid level is think air pressure builds up. should be a better way to replace filter maybe smaller hands and finger reach in remove it not sure.... Mine works well for a few cycles then becomes sluggish then stops working entirely when it's 20° outside. Works fine in warmer weather. Found out there was ice in the reservoir, because nothing came out when I removed drain plug. Had to heat up the pump with heat gun before it would drain. Drained it and filled with available power steering fluid (all I had on hand in a storm). It worked fine for the rest of the day. The next day, it worked for about a minute and then became sluggish and finally quit working at all. Just the motor spinning like no load attached. I believe there is more water in system. Any ideas how to get all the water out?

I've already replaced the 9 pin wiring connecter once (it's expensive) looks like it's failed again, I never take the plow off and don't intend to so looks like I'll cut the plug off and hard wire it. Then clean the screen as detailed in the video, TOMORROW, when it's not -4 with the wind chill.

Hi, I just watched this great video. I'm hoping my plow is having the same problem. When I bought my plow it was new in 2011. The first time I went to use it I dropped it and it wouldn't go back up. When I brought it back to the place o purchased it they told me that the filter was cloggged and there was rust in the screen. Wasn't sure if you knew if the newer plow is set up the same as yours.

Just replaced the fluid in my Fisher minuteman 1 with Oreilly Power Steering Fluid @ $17.94/gal.Hooked up the blade with the travel chain holding blade in the air., Turned on float and retracted lift ram fully with mussel power and sitting on triangle. Powered down plow. Pulled drain, fill & level plugs. Drained system. Disconnected angle ram hoses and drained both rams with side to side motion. Replaced both hoses. Replace drain plug and refilled until fluid started out of fluid level hole. Powered up and stroked all rams to fill them. Disconnected travel chain to let plow down. With all rams full topped off fluid until coming out the fill level plug. Replaced fill plug & fluid level plug. Works great. My ? is have I over filled the system by having all rams full and then checking for fluid coming out fluid level plug or is this the right level.

You should be putting a wrench on the power stud on the motor while loosening or tightening it, if you not you run the risk of breaking that stud off inside the motor, then you can toss the motor in the trash.

My Western plow blade will angle and lift and lower , but drops back down to the ground as soon as you let go of the power button on the controler . I drained the oil ( blue - 50 degree ) cleaned filter and put new oil in , this all happend after hitting a frozen snow bank and blew the hose , down on the left side lower angle cylinder . Also took the 3 valves out and blew them out with air pressure , sometimes you hit power switch and it seems like the problem is fixed , then a couple tries later it's back to the same old problem . Did anyone else ever had this problem , or know what might be going on . Thanks for reading !

What has happened to me is two of the female pins broke off and are stuck on the male ends so im getting a weak connection only in the very end of the female plug. I shoved some stranded copper wire in it to improve the connection. So its def the plug and I def gotta get motivated and splice a new one in.

Sounds like your valve is dirty or not working. Pull the hydraulic valve for the down and clean or replace it. Also check to see that you are getting power to that specific coil. If you do not have a volt meter or test light. You can use a screw drive and place it on the outside of the coil. If it is working the coil will work like a magnet and you can fell it when you try to remove the screwdriver. You should have slight resistance.

@@547Rick hi Rick. You seem very knowledgable. My Fisher MM1 2 plug - 6 pin controller plow wont lift or angle. I have cleaned all connections. Replaced main solenoid on body near battery. Drain hydro/cleaned filter (was dirty), replaced with blue fluid. I read your comment about the solenoids on the valve body. If I place a screw driver at the back of the solenoid and no magnetism, then the solenoid is bad? If I have no lift or angle would there be something else that would give me the result of all 3 functions, malfuncting? A shared thing? What's the chance of all 3 solenoids going bad at once?
