This is the easiest, and one of the strongest methods to make floating shelves. There are premade floating shelve brackets available for purchase, but this will method is easier and cheaper. The only tools you MUST have are a pocket hole jig and a drill.

That was a great video. I like the pocket hole installation.....did I just say that? LOL I see that your doug fir has a very tight grain. I have some 70 yr old doug fir that looks strikingly similar. Is your lumber reclaimed? Triple and quadruple checked!! I have never heard of a Paralok fence. Do you like it? I want to upgrade my Craftsman 113 tablesaw fence sometime soon and I am undecided if I want to build one of spend my money on a commercially made one.

Thanks 👍 No, it wasn't reclaimed, but this would be a great application for reclaimed lumber. The Paralok fence was installed by my father many years ago. I don't really know much about it other than it works great! It uses a cable and pully system under the table top to keep aligned. Thanks for watching!

any downside to driving the screw in from the bottom of the shelf /doing pockets on the bottom?

Not as strong as from the top because of the angle.

This was great. Thank you. Do you think 2” or 2 1/2” pocket hole screws will be strong enough to hold a long shelf? Like 2x10x8’ lumber straight up on the wall and used for books. Plenty of books. The shelf will span across multiple studs.

That’s a big shelf. Hard to say from here. Get a screw in every stud you can and I would bet that it would hold.

Great video! How much weight would you think these would hold? Reason I ask is I am looking to do this application in my bar area to hold liquor bottles. The length of the shelves would span 2 studs and the depth would be just a little bit deeper than a bottle would need.

If you get the pocket hole screws securely into the studs I would think it should be fine. No way to really know until you test it out. I would think smaller bottles would be fine, but I wouldn't put a bunch of massive Costco size bottles on the shelf. Good luck.
