I made this with my husband and all went well until we rounded off the legs in the wrong spot (not where the two by fours meet) but the other direction. Had extra 2 x 4’s so fixed it and rest went very well. Thank you for such good plans. This is perfect for my single car garage when I want to build something. Thanks again! 😊

Hi. How can you prevent the tablet to wobble without some diagonal Pieces?
@markhoger1964
@markhoger1964 2 месяца назад
Question. When drilling a hole for the legs to pivot you say to make a mark 1 5/8" from the top. It sure looks more than 1 5/8 inches in the video. Can you please confirm?
@YTubeSDD
@YTubeSDD 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the video. Do you get any racking with your design? Is it wobbly at all?
@TopHomeowner
@TopHomeowner 9 месяцев назад
It'll move back and forth slightly from side to side, but not much. If anything the legs sometimes unfold a bit too far, so if I had made the removable leg support about 6-8" longer (and not have the notch at the very end), it would probably eliminate that completely.

I made a similar table with similar wheels. One issue I'm having is the wheels get caught under the legs when I'm lowering it. Have you encountered that? I'm thinking of adding a spring to keep them from going lower than the deployed state. Also, I made mine high enough to also serve as an outfeed for my table saw. But this makes it difficult to undo the top latch with the leg support in place. I'm brainstorming ideas to help with that. I thought about changing the long horizontal support to one that runs diagonally from the bottom leg stretcher to the middle support under the table. Another idea was to have some extended lever thingy to undo the latch...
@TopHomeowner
@TopHomeowner 9 месяцев назад
I haven't had that issue with my wheels. In fact they can't go any lower than where they are designed to be. The only thing I might change is attaching them about 1/8-1/4" higher because I don't need to raise the table as high as they will now. Changing the horizontal support from the leg stretcher to the middle support sounds like a good idea to me. An extended lever doesn't sound as... safe.

Do you have plans you can share or sell? I’ve seen some others that wobble when free-standing. Does your design wobble?

Awesome video! What type of wood are you using for the 2x4’s?!?! Regular framing 2x4’s?
@TopHomeowner

Yep, just regular framing 2x4's!

What's the stability like? I've seen another similar build that was really wobbly and had to be amended to use diagonal bracers.
@TopHomeowner
@TopHomeowner 6 месяцев назад
It's really stable. I might modify the lower removable brace and leave a few inches of material on each side past the leg (instead of making it flush) but honestly I've been happy with it

Question on the lower leg support….notch 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”……how will that hold the legs from moving outward and ending up not straight?
@debraschultheis2515
@debraschultheis2515 2 месяца назад
Ok…..decided to not use the middle support and put 6” 2x4’s on the outside of the upper legs to serve as a stop to keep the legs straight. We’ll see how this works.
@TopHomeowner
@TopHomeowner 2 месяца назад
The stop on the outside of the legs limits outward movement, but it could be better. The lower leg support prevents the legs from collapsing inward. You might want to make the lower leg 6-8 inches longer so that way the notch has support both ways.

Why not secure the tabletop to the skirt from the top to avoid having to drill holes throughout the skirt and possibly going too far with the screws? Is it for aesthetic purposes?
@martinhayes9847
@martinhayes9847 6 месяцев назад
From what I've seen, putting holes in the top can cause divets, bumps, and what not which can make the top not flat. Also, by using the skirt, you can swap out the top if it gets damaged
@mikewelch3903
@mikewelch3903 5 месяцев назад
Screws through the top into the skirts would be a much better method. This is, after all, a work bench, not a kitchen table.
@stephenmoore2561
@stephenmoore2561 3 месяца назад
I’ve seem other designs where they used pocket hole screws from the skirt into the top. Just have to install the pocket holes into the 2x’s b4 you assemble the skirt.
@georgeanderson4411
@georgeanderson4411 2 месяца назад
You can't go too far with the screws if you use the length of screws he specifies in the materials list. Why would I want holes/screw heads in the surface of my work bench instead of a smooth top? I wouldn't.
