Good job mate - appreciate you leaving in the errors so the rest of us can learn to avoid mistakes. Lessons learnt: 1) spiked shoes a must-have & Amazon cheaper than epoxy floor suppliers 2) Work in small areas 3) Custom shaker container a winner 4) Roller better than notched silicon spreader (either get a straight silicon spreader or avoid a spreader and just use the roller) 5) Leave the epoxy to cure longer than 12 hours and ensure it's touch dry everywhere before clear-coating On the pour technique of clear hardener into container, better to put pour container up to can lip at 45 degree angle and "quick pour" even over-filling, then stand can quickly to avoid drippage. You can then pour excess back from pour container into can in comfort as it has a great pour lip design and you can nail the level perfectly if that makes sense? Overfill then remove to exact level.

If you want it to bond properly you really need to use a 175 with diamond pads around 80 grit. The reason coatings lift from hot tires is because it doesn’t get a good enough bite. 80 grit done properly provides it. Looks amazing, hope it’s lasts.

This was fun to watch. We're getting ready to do this to our garage. The people who had it before us used something really cheap. Down here in FL it get's really hot, and whatever they used is pealing up, and getting all over the place, including the house. So, I've got to pull all that sh*t up first, then prep the concrete, THEN use whatever product I settle on. This looks great. Let me know if you have any regrets in relation to the durability of the product. I may very well go with this company if their prices are competitive. Great job with this....

@@HomeDIYDan Thanks for the reply, Dan. Although, the way I see it....you didn't make any mistakes. Maybe you might do things a bit differently if you had to do it over. But, given that you didn't have to do anything over, or "fix" anything, and it looks spectacular...then, you did it right. Yeah, I think I'll pull the trigger on this, and get'r done before the Florida summer makes working on anything outside utterly impossible :-)

Well normally to prep the floor you would grind it and acid wash it but with it being in a basement I’m not sure how acid washing would best be cleaned up. I would rent a diamond grinder from Home Depot grind the floor so you have a good surface to adhere to and then wash it so there’s no dust left on the floor. If you have good drainage in the basement and it’s not finished you could pressure wash it but that’s on you to decide how best to wash it based on the basement situation.

I have a black epoxy floor too. After 3 months, the shows dirt and scratches. Any advice on maintenance other than applying another clear coat?
@HomeDIYDan
@HomeDIYDan 3 года назад
I don’t see a whole lot of dirt on mine. I’ve wet mopped it a couple times and it looks great afterwards. I also went fairly heavy on the flakes which helps hide a lot

I noticed you didnt grind the concrete before. Is the floor peeling or bubbling yet?? We never clean before install because diamond grinding does that for us

About to buy, what were those chip colors? And after you did it was it slippery if it got wet or even before it would get wet. Did you use any of the anti skid stuff in it?

I used red white and gray, I didn’t use the anti slip and when it’s wet some people find it slippery but I haven’t had an issue

How did you make your flake shaker?
@HomeDIYDan
@HomeDIYDan 3 года назад
I drilled either 3/8” or 1/2” holes in the bottom of a $1 water jug from Walmart filled it up and then just shake it back and forth. You can practice in the grass or in the driveway to get a feel for how it spreads and if you want to add more holes.

If we add clear coat(hoping it would be glossy) will it make us loose the grip?
@HomeDIYDan

No, there is an anti slip packet you can add to make it not slippery, I chose not to add it
@vaddisushma9016

Home DIY Dan thank you for your response. So you added the clear coat right? Does it make you loose the grip while you walk on floor?
@HomeDIYDan
@HomeDIYDan 3 года назад
Yea the clear coat is a must if your want the floor to last a long time! I haven’t noticed it being slippery even while wet. If you’re in an area that gets a lot of snow or rain though it wouldn’t hurt to add the anti-slip into it. I’m in Texas and we don’t get a whole lot of rain and we don’t park in the garage very often since I’m always doing projects so I wanted the floor to be as glossy looking as possible which is why I skipped it.
@danstvguy
@danstvguy 3 года назад
I noticed you were able to step on the floor while applying the flakes. Any issues with that? Also ... Do you see any reason why 1/2 of the floor couldn't be done at one time ... followed by the other 1/2 say a week later?
@HomeDIYDan
@HomeDIYDan 3 года назад
So I’m using special spiked shoe attachments similar to golf shoes to walk on the floor. The only issue I could see is if you’re doing the clear coat afterwards you would have to sand the epoxy coat lightly on the first half in order to get the clear to adhere properly.
@danstvguy
@danstvguy 3 года назад
@@HomeDIYDan Thanks Dan. Just sanding a portion of the finished side abutting the second half, correct?
@HomeDIYDan
@HomeDIYDan 3 года назад
@@danstvguy Yea, with the Armor Garage Epoxy I used it said if the clear coat is not put down with 24 hours of the epoxy being put down then you would need to sand it. So if you're planning on breaking it up just put the clear coat down 10-12 hours after you finish the second half
@bt8831
@bt8831 3 года назад
one question: do you have to neutralize the acid?
@HomeDIYDan
@HomeDIYDan 3 года назад
Yes otherwise it will keep etching and would interfere with the epoxy adhesion
