Hi Friends!
These easy to make garden bed row covers have been invaluable in my garden beds! Whether they are for frost protection, bug and critter protection or sun protection, these DIY easy garden hoops are perfect.
I use 1/2” PVC pipe that I buy in a roll from a big box store and cut in whatever hoop length I need. I use the small, green garden stakes to anchor the hoops and the 1/2 PVC pipe slides over the garden stakes.
The cover I have over my Strawberry bed is summer weight row cover. This allows for the sunlight and water to easily get to the plants. For frost or winter protection, I use a heavier, frost proof cloth.

Good way to make inexpensive hoops, but I think your garden area looks nice---it is neat & organized, and there is something very pleasant to the eye seeing a well-maintained garden. I'll bet when those strawberries come in nobody will have anything to say about the appearance anyway!

Exactly what I needed to know! So for a four foot wide bed how much pipe do you need?

Hi! It would be hard for me to give you exact measurements because it depends on how many hoops you plan to make and how tall you need them. If you buy the PVC pipe in lengths and need to have the store cut them, I would have them cut at least 6 foot lengths. However, the plastic pipe bends so you may not need to have it cut at all in order to haul it home. I like to buy mine in the roll and then I can cut it to whatever length I need. A small hack saw or carpet knife can cut the PVC. Just giving you a “for instance”, the Strawberry bed is a little over 4 feet wide and the hoops I have on there are about 5 feet long.
