I did the same technique with my countertops and I LOVE it!! The only thing I did differently is instead of sponges, I used a plastic grocery bag. I smoothed it out flat and cut it in 4 pieces (to give you an idea of the size I used). Using a full sized bag made it too sloppy & hard to control what I was doing. Also, about halfway through I got smart & put a glove on! 🤦♀️ The primer I used was tinted gray, and the paint colors I used (same kind of paints you used) were light gray, metallic silver and black. I also had white and rose gold that I used to put in “veins”. I have black appliances in my kitchen, and my cupboards have a black background. It all went together so good! As far as durability, your recommendations regarding heat, bleach, etc are spot on. I wish I could attach a photo so you could see them! Yours turned out just fantastic, I love the colors you used. And I like the idea of using the sponges for dabbing on the paint; if I had seen this video as opposed to the one I did watch, I would have went that route! But it turned out super great, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Did I mention that I have a mobile home too?!? At least your original countertops were decent; mine were that butcher block Formica that I think they used in every mobile home in the 70’s & 80’s! 🤣 Anyway, new subscriber, hoping for more mobile home improvement videos!! 👍🏻
WOW, your home improvements are awesome!! I just found your channel and so happy to find someone who shows in real life simple and budget friendly ways for home improvement....THANK YOU!!
I cannot even tell you how long I've been looking for a solid honest to goodness mobile home makeover. And here you are - making my dreams come true! LOL Great job on this countertop! Looks beautiful and I can't wait to get started on my own!!
Okay, can I just praise you on doing this on your own?!! My husband works out of town a lot so I'm alone most of the time. We've been in our place for about a year and I'm finally getting tired of waiting around for him , so I'll be tackling a lot of projects on my own! You just gave me a boatload of confidence
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I like the look you produced. Your colors blended well and you did a nice job I think on the overall pattern. That’s the hardest part! Now your countertops blend so beautifully with the other colors in the house. My favorite part was the realistic tips you gave. The part about a larger sponge making it easier on your hands. That is super important!! Many of us would like to try your project but we could end up disappointed if we had to stop in the middle of the work because our hands were hurting so badly. Lots of people have arthritis and that one tip is worth gold to us. Your other practical tips were very helpful as well, especially practicing the pattern on a paper plate! That’s awesome! I’ve watched dozens of videos on painting and refinishing countertops but yours is the first to include such thoughtful comments. I also want to commend you, as others have, for being so conscientious about taking care of your children and being thrifty with your family’s resources while actually beautifying your home. There’s a whole chapter in the Bible at Proverbs 31 where God describes a capable wife and how she’s a blessing to her family. I think you set a fine example and I appreciate your video very much. I have subscribed so I can follow your progress in your other projects and see how you’re doing. I pray you get many blessings from Jehovah for your fine efforts.
This came out beautifully. I might try it on my small bathroom counter for practice. I live in a 2001 double wide and I can honestly say the one thing I don't love about my home is the blue countertops. They aren't terrible, just not my style.
Im gonna be doing my brothers countertops soon so I'll have another video within a few months but its easier than you think you can totally Do it 😉 thank you for watching💕
Wow!! This is so amazing.. I love it that beats buying a new countertop. This is what I enjoy. Lately I been doing diy projects. I would buy project pieces for the low and revamp it. It’s amazing what a can of paint and primer can do. Great job!!
Hi, I'm a new subscriber! Yes I live in a Manufactured home. Mine is almost 10 years old. Purchased it Brand new. Looking to do updates to mine when it is pd off next year. It was a 10 yr loan. Payments aren't cheap, but I have a roof over my head from the weather. Cold Air for our summer which is 6 months out of the yr. Maybe longer. I live in the South. I didn't want a payment hanging over my head FOREVER! I'm just now watching your playlist. So thank you for doing these types of DIY'S! Someone else mentioned looking for these types of Videos, I couldn't agree more. Ty so much. God bless....
I'm impressed. You did all that, all by yourself, AND you have small children? And it looks great! I would've never thought to paint the countertops. I am going to subscribe, don't want to miss anything here 👏
You are so super sweet and very creative. I really enjoyed the videos I've watched thus far. My hubby and I just recently bought a home and we are in the process of putting down brown kraft paper floors in the kids room. I'm so enjoying DIY!
You are amazing! I have a total fixer upper home that I am having to work on 1 project at a time. I am on a teeny, tiny budget. I love your channel. It is really helping me. Thank you! Please keep your DIY's coming!
Amazing job; you’ve given me confidence to try mine. I’m planning on selling my home and a realtor that came in said I should change my countertops. Was going to go another route and then someone said that stains sunk in and wouldn’t come out. Definitely going to use Polyurethane!! Thanks. And I live your colours!!!
New subscriber! Super excited to find your videos! My husband and I are on the hunt for a new home and we're not afraid of a fixer upper...this gives us some GREAT ideas to work with on our super tight budget. Thank you for the awesome content. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
I know this is an older video and you have a new home but this video is AWESOME! YOU DO AMAZING renovations I love everything you've doneand all your home's I've been watching all your videos over and over keep up the amazing job - Karen
Love this you really do a great job on home improvement!! You got it going on i think you can do just about anything. I know you have moved now but I'm just seeing this video.
Hi! I found your channel a couple weeks ago and I love you and your family! You're all so sweet and wonderful💜 Plus, your granite countertop was spot on! It was perfect and I never saw any flaws! Thanks for inspiring me💜💜💜💜
Thank you ! I was terrified too but I figured if it didnt work out I would just paint them a solid color ! Anything was better than the blue 😂 . some friends came over and they didn't even know it was paint lol . its super durable as well . I thought about trying the peel and stick contact paper that ive seen alot of people try but I was scared I would ruin it when I washed the dishes . good luck if you try it im sure it will turn out beautiful.
It's beautiful! I've been considering painting my 1993 Cavco manufactured home's cream laminate countertops, but I've been reluctant to do it. Your video has given me the courage to do something permanent by sharing your technique. I've made a set of marble painted pillars from pvc sewer pipe and the capitols top and bottom from our local plumbing supply and they turned out awesome. But those are removable should I choose to do so...painted countertops, not so much unless I win the lottery and order new ones. Your videos had never come up on my feed before but I'm glad they did today. You have a new subscriber 🙂
How does it hold up now? I’ve been seeing comments on other videos about the clear coat washing off with cleaning products. You’re counter tops look beautiful by the way!!!
Its holding up wonderfully I have two kids so im always cooking and cleaning these counters and they still look beautiful I use the all purpose antibacterial cleaner and it hasn't taken my clear coat off at all . I did a total of three thick coats though . it was totally worth it even if I need to eventually do another coat down the road its a heck of a lot cheaper than really granite lol
Hi Karrie Lynn, I am going to do the same thing on my countertops and I would like to know how well your countertop has held up since you have done it.
Looks great! No sanding first? I plan on trying this out. My husband and I bought our single wide new and would like to build on but finding it to be a long process of getting things the way we want etc.... Price of everything is insane, specially on a budget.
I didn't sand I just used a strong degreaser to clean the surface before I painted . its not easy to remodel on a budget and it takes alot longer but its totally worth it 😀 . Thank you for watching 💕
@@karrielynn I also subscribed 😉... I can relate!! I'm a stay at home mom to 4 kids, age's 19, 16, 6 & 2...1 boy 3 girls.. I'm not able to work due to my son's kidney disease (he's 19 just started dialysis but has had disease since almost 2 year's old)...it has been so frustrating/stressful... It has also been a learning experience... Taught us if you don't have your health you don't have anything. Even though he's 19 he doesn't act it and I drive him to dialysis... can't count how many times he was hospitalized.... I've always felt I never could enjoy being at home with the kids also always thought he'd outgrow it and I could get a job...but all in God's plans.... Love you videos! Cute family ❤️
@@cassiejohnson9088 I'm sorry your going through everything and I know times may seem hard and you just want to give up but alot of us could never give up even if we tried it's just in our blood to care for our babies no matter their age ! God has a plan for all of us we might not agree or like it but all we can do is go along with it and make the most out of it . life is way to short to do otherwise 💕 I'll pray for you and your family 🙏 oh and thank you so much for opening up to me I really love to get to know everyone as much as I can !
I commented on your last video ! But I found out how you did it! Omg this is great! Mines blue as well and I live in a single wide too! I hate the blue so much! Mine is laminate and it’s peeling off. Did you peel off your blue? If not how could I get around that? Bec this won’t work for me bec mines a mess lol 😂🤦🏼♀️
I used three coats and my countertops have a texture from the type of countertops they had on previously but they look great ! I get so many compliments on them . But I did use a foam roller to apply the polyacrylic it helps it have a nice smooth finish. I hope that helps and thank you for watching 😊
No chipping and no fading at all they still look great . check out my most recent kitchen tour you can see they still look the same . I plan on doing a update video on them very soon . thank you for watching. 😊
Anything that has that spongy texture will work. you can even scrunch up some paper towels I just think you should definitely test it out on a paper plate or a poster board before you begin on countertop 😊
@@karrielynn Thank you. It looks beautiful by the way. One more question, you may have answered it though. After the clear coat how long before you can use the countertop
@@carlamahlberg1854 I might not have mentioned it. This video could have been better lol but I did three coats total letting it dry 2 hours in between each coat but the final coat I did way thicker than the first two because I wanted it to be super smooth and I noticed the thicker I went on the polyacrylic the smoother it was . once the final coat was done I waited overnight before I put anything on them and I just used them lightly for a whole day but I am a stay at home mom of two kids so I needed to use counter tops asap so once I could touch it and it didn't feel tacky I used them . btw they are holding up wonderfully I have my entire family wanting me to redo theirs as well 😊 its totally worth the work and will last a lifetime if you take care of them . I hope that helps feel free to email me if you have more ?s ( check description box) . I dont mind at all ! I have a update on my countertops that I recently posted as well . thanks again for watching.
They are so cheap I recommend getting at least 4 of each color because it's better to have to much than not enough . You can always return unused bottles if you need to !
@@karrielynn another thing is I wonder how to do the little line behind the sink. My counters are all white now... Maybe the one eighth inch white area behind the sink doesn't matter You did a great job
It was so difficult around the sink I just cut my sponge super small and tried my best to match it but its not gonna be perfect around edges it's super hard to sponge the edges.
