• DIY Kitchen island | A...
products I used purchased at walmart
1.polycrilic (glossy finish)
2. waverly chalk paint in the colors
mineral, steel, and nimbus.
3. apple barrel aqrilic paint in the colors
black and nutmeg (I used one bottle of black and a little bit of nutmeg)
4. masking tape
5. drop cloth
6. I bought a foam roller but try and get a foam brush instead.
7. natural sponges
The handles were on clearance at lowes and I couldn't find a link. they are just backs handles for now till I can get the ones I really want for the whole kitchen.

Karrie, that is amazing! To me it looks just like your real granite. When things start settling down, you ought to consider commissioning your talents out. Lots of us out here don't have a talented (or motivated) bone in our bodies. I think you would be wildly successful. Bravo!

You are such a brave young lady...….I have used the sticky paper on some cheap furniture before and was never happy with it...….You are right!! paint can be dauting, but can be painted over......I am an old lady and love to see how you young mothers/wives handle the day to day….You are tops in my book!

If you put epoxy resin over the island it will have the same glossy look like your original counters! Looks amazing!

Sandi Aldridge I did my bathroom after watching Karrie do it in her mobile home. It came out great and I get so many compliments. My girls' dad has sold laminate countertops and said he couldn't tell the difference. 😊 Have you done yours?

Sweet Tee I just let the primer dry, maybe an hour or so. As for the colors, since they go on so lightly, you really don't need drying time, and it's easy to coverup something if you don't like it. One thing I did that Karrie didn't, was to lightly sand between the coats of polycrylic, and I think I did 3-4 coats. I saw that on another video, but not doing so, hasn't seemed to affect Karrie's projects, so it may have been overkill. 😉

You did a great job! I love to watch your videos, when you make things, I feel like you are always working hard at making a good home for your little family. I will tel you how I use to get my kids to take naps, I would put on baby Bach and calm the whole house, then if they weren’t settling down, I’d say, if you hold your eyes shut and be very quiet for ten minutes, then you can get up, they never got up, they always fell asleep before the ten minutes were up, also since I’m telling my tricks, I also got my kids to eat and I got them to love everything by telling them if they took 1 bite of something they’re said they didn’t like, then they didn’t have to eat it at all, over time since they had tried things, they started to like it and they all, all 5 love most all vegetables, really most everything that’s put in front of them.

Very nice! I used one of the granite countertop kits but now I know I could have used any paint that I wanted. I did not do a great deal of prep on my old 'butcher block' formica. Eventually, I had small dings, then I painted over the granite with 'black chalk paint' and that lasted for several years before I am now having a custom countertop made and using epoxy undercoat, then the granite fake paints, and am going to use the resin epoxy for the top coat. Thanks for the tutorial; I needed a refresher course!
