What happens when you have some drips from the paint? I didnt see any painters tape. What kind of paint? I very rarely paint. It is gloss? Matte? When you were doing the countertops did you wait for the paint to dry?
@@christinearianna2424 If any drips I wipe it up right away with a damp towel. I used matte on the apple barrel paints and semi gloss for the rest of the paints.
Well, I did it! And it looks so good!! Funny enough, it looks like marbel!! (I'm not mad about it, I love it)! Going to do my cabinets next! Thank you for the inspiration and for posting your video!❤❤❤
Love it! Good Job. I get discouraged watching "money people" remodels knowing I will never have the resources to make major renovations. You've encourage me to get busy and update our home, built in 1938. (small & old)
Agreed the bag trick is a good idea but unfortunately the bag just breaks down from the paint and you end up with small bag Parts in your paint. At least the bag that I used broke down. What a pain in the butt that was!
When she started sponging the countertops I was like, oh no.. And then I saw the finished product and I was like WTF. Now I want to do this to all my counters!
Katherine MM she did an excellent job. I did my countertops the same way. I used gold, tan, black and white color scheme. The possibilities are endless. I went to Lowes and got free swatch samples of lamented countertops I liked as a blueprint to follow. Good luck with your project. 👍🏾✌🏾
I hope she not only gets her deposit back but she gets something knocked off her rent or some kind of compensation because y’all definitely raised the rent for the next tenant! I want to repaint my mobile home and it’s brand new!
I so badly want to take a brand new mobile home and do it exactly how I want. Like really really make it my own. My parents have a giant modular on a basement, it’s 21 yrs old now, and I hate that they refuse to redo anything. Like it needs it, I’d get rid of her popcorn ceiling, paint or restrain her real wood cabinets, take the island, unmount it and put it on rolling wheels to open her kitchen up, and even though there’s textured wallpaper as well as textured drywall I wanna go crazy with paint and accent some walls and her fireplace.
Honestly the only thing I’d suggest, on the cabinets, if you get some long hard wear, like long handles, it will draw the eyes upwards and gives more height. I love this too cute!
What a SWEET, exceptional daughter you are! The kitchen looks amazing, the owner will probably be so grateful for all your hard work if your mom ever moves. 💙
I wish I could feel the same joy as your mom did when she put on that first knob on the cupboard. You are a very good daughter and your mama seems cheerful and loving. Makes my heart warm.
I'm so impressed more especially that you did it for your mom. Well done. My mom passed away 12 years ago I still miss her dearly seeing this video was emotional for me. But really well done for being there for your mother
I love how you did such a budget friendly make over. In these trying times you made a beautiful NEW kitchen for your Mom with just minimal cost & a whole lot of love. There are a lot of people that need to see more of these budget friendly makeovers. Thank you for taking the time to video your work!
I wasn't sure about those countertops as you were layering the paint, especially when you got to the white paint but oh my goodness are those some beautiful countertops!!! I'm trying this!!!
Great job. I would have used an etching primer under your Kilz base coat (I recommend XIM) after sanding off the counters with a 220 grit sandpaper first. This creates both a chemical and mechanical bond for you paint. Without those 2 basic steps your countertop paint will eventually peel off. BTW you cannot use epoxy on any counter with an attached backsplash. It will run off the backsplash area and pool on the deck at the back. Another area that could have been addressed would have been that hideous crack in the counter where it had been mitered together. This should have had a coat of bondo applied ahead of time to give you a flawless surface to start with before starting your paint applications. All in all the outcome (even with the missed steps and shortcuts) REALLY improved the kitchen. I especially liked the paint colors you chose for your countertops. They really made the kitchen come together. Your application process was spot on. Well done.
I don't know alot about remodeling/updating rooms. At first I thought your remarks were rude. But by the end I thought your remarks were meant to be helpful. Good advice to check out!
@@janetmeyer885 I definitely wasn't meaning to be rude, that isn't in my heart Ive been lucky a few people have been kind and given me tips and tricks over the years that have saved me so much time money and effort i was trying to pass along that blessing
I feel like crying watching the both of you work as hard as you did...I was once young and did this type of painting ...What a great job and a huge difference. It's too bad your mom's landlord didn't have it in him or herself to pay you for your time and equity. You have increased the property value and your landlord should compensate you for this.
Girl this looks amazing!!!! You are so talented with the faux granite!! I would be a nervous wreck thinking I would ruin my countertop!!! But you are just the sweetest thing and I just love watching you and your mama doing fun house stuff together!!!!
Great job! I just found your channel tonight and I love the makeover. Those counters look great. I will be checking out your future makeovers. So much talent 👏. Can you do a rental small bathroom makeover? I need some ideas.
I love it but I'm really concerned that you didn't list what finish the type of paint is cause that matters and didn't seem to prep things much. If you don't have the right finish you can get major chipping especially if you didn't sand and prime correctly. Like flat should only be used on ceilings cause it's so easy to scuff and wiping doesn't clean it like it does with a semi or high gloss also high gloss should only be used on trim for so many reasons like it's the toughest for high traffic areas that easily get dirty or bumped and scratched from say a vacuum. IDK I could go on and on from what I learned from my mistakes which caused me more time, money, and etc from doing wrong (which were many mistakes! haha) so my advice for others please look up how to paint especially different surfaces like that really cheap fake wood stuff cause that easily goes wrong and using the wrong finish can make stuff look tacky.
@@melissahernandez4329 it all depends on what kind you have honestly and what shape they are in. Like I can't tell you that without seeing it and looking it up if it's that mdf or whatever you call it, laminate, and if it's all damaged from water you might have to replace it all. It all depends google it
My Mom and I were so close and did everything together. This is the best video I have seen. I know you treasure every day with each other. The kitchen is just great....perfect job.
I painted mine a couple years ago to look like granite. It turn out beautifully and has held up perfectly! I don’t baby it; in fact, I treat it like I always have. No chips, no worn spots, etc. For $69 approximately, I got beautiful new counters that I love!
@@racemom777 I used the acrylic paints that come in 2oz bottles (Apple Barrel is the brand), the primer I used is made by Zinzer I think it’s called, and then the Polycrylic by Minwax. All of those were purchased at Walmart, and cost around $60. But I had lots left over, which I guess depends on how large of an area you have to cover. I just used the plastic grocery bags to dab the colors on; I cut the bag into 4 sections because trying to use the entire bag wadded up was too much to use & I had a hard time controlling it, if that makes sense! I did better with a smaller piece. I applied the protective coat of Polycrylic with a brush, but some people use a roller. Those little bottles of acrylic paint are super cheap at Walmart, I think they are like 33 cents or something. Also, I put 2 coats of the Polycrylic on and tried to keep my cat down so so he didn’t leave his paw prints on it!! Good luck!! You’ll love it, and you’ll be so glad you did it. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
@@angeli888 I’m sorry, I don’t think I can post pictures here, but the video I watched is “How to paint countertops - looks like slate - $65 DIY budget friendly...”, and the channel is “Lisa Capen Quilts”. I did exactly what she did, except I used a gray primer and I used a couple different shades of gray, black, white, and a bit of gold for the “veins”. I didn’t use the stuff she used that she had to sand off! I can’t remember what it’s called....but I skipped that part. And instead of paper towels to blot with, I used a plastic grocery bag, like her, but I cut mine into 4 parts because using the whole bag was too much to handle & I had better control with a smaller piece. Also, I applied the Polycrylic with a brush instead of a roller. It’s been over 2 years now, and they are holding up perfectly!! Let me know if you have any questions!! Good luck!!
Wow. ABSOLUTELY beautiful. When we buy a home, we will definitely use alot of your techniques and ideas. I love it! You should start a diy small business. 💙
My husband and I just bought an old 1932 mill house, so I was, already, going to do the faux granite countertops, but I'm loving the bag in the paint tray trick. Everything came out looking so professional. I love it all, Ladies. Do the thang!!!💝💖😍
I did the same technique to my countertops too, and I am just thrilled with it! I used a gray primer first, then dabbed on dark grey, a light grey, black, white, and added veins of rose gold (very lightly), and it really turned out better than I could have imagined. I used the Apple Barrel acrylic paint from Walmart (in the craft section) and they are so cheap; I think they cost around 50 cents a bottle. I only needed one bottle of each color, even though I bought 2 of each! I sealed it with the same product you used, and it has held up perfectly. The only thing I did differently than you is I used a plastic bag instead of a sponge or paper towel. I cut the bag into 4 sections so it was easier to work with & keep control! It turned out so good that my neighbor & I did her counters and used my left over paint. Anyway, you did s fantastic job, as always!! I’m sure your mom loves her new kitchen!! 💖
I was so wanting to do the counter tops like this and paint my kitchen cabinets but afraid to. I also rent but everything is old and just so bad. After watching this I'm going to go for it. This turned out great and just very inspiring. Thanks for the inspiration.
Get approval first, cause in some states they can keep your deposit if they want to, no matter how nice you painted, etc... Read your lease carefully, ok? I have worked in the business and sometimes owners or rental companies are tough.
I followed your tutorial step by step down to the same colors and sponges. I am not an artist of any sorts and had no idea what I was doing! But it turned out AMAZING! My only words of wise would be to trust the process. I didn’t realize until I added the white (and went back with a little black) how great it was going to look. Find a good sponge. And I realized after the fact that I prefer the glossy look for the counters so I’m going to sand and apply a glossy coat. And I made the mistake of getting eggshell after the kills on the counters. I’m going back for a gloss as well for those. But I’m so happy I had this video to guide me and help! Thanks so much!!
Great video, thank you. I live in one of my dads houses and he is about to come home from Iraq and I’m going to do this to my kitchen counter tops and surprise him. ❤️
Just a warning - you did a great job, and this is great if it is YOUR house. We had a renter tell us they were professional painters and they asked if they could paint our duplex they were living in. They did a terrible job and WE had to pay to replace trim and repaint. I understand you might not like the place you are renting from, but if you are an amateur (and especially if you have never done this before!!!) please don’t assume your landlord should be appreciative of you changing the wall color and painting over the top of the counter. Those hinges you paint over will look like cr*p over time, but by then maybe you’ve moved on - and the landlord has to be left with the mess. I agree this looks great but you don’t have the right to do this to a rental without asking, and you may actually find yourself in court, having to pay for something you ‘thought’ was a gift to the landlord. Not everyone is good at painting or making a countertop look like granite, as this gal has done, and it’s not right to “practice” on someone else’s financial investment.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You are such a sweet daughter for helping your Mom. Your DIY videos blow me away!! The final product is so beautiful 😍 I can’t get over the transformation I had to watch the ending a few times. great job ladies!! I’m already looking forward to the next DIY video.👍
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS! You are extremely talented! Infact, I have jotted down notes, colors, screen shots, as well as saved your video. I will be redoing my kitchen soon and wanted to do it as budget friendly as possible. Thanks for sharing and girlie..you've got the touch! Amazing job!
I am so happy for your mom! And proud of you for helping her get a new look in her kitchen. That means a lot to a mom. And it turned out to be really AWESOME!!!! What a difference! God bless! 👏👏👏
So, thank you for this!! I never knew you could paint counter tops like that, and it’s a game changer for us! We also rent a mobile home, and it’s seriously out dated. We are painting the entire kitchen and living room white and now that I know we can paint the countertops to give it a spruced up look, I’m al for it!! We also want to DIY our small kitchen table to give it the farmhouse look as well. I never knew about the final clear gloss that would seal the paint, so now we can finally get it all done!! Thank you!!
Yes in description it says apple bottom paint and the 3 colors she used 4 if count 1sf color which was the tan mixed with white for a beige color ...READ description all there : ) I think painting s kitchen table white ( a chalk paint white ) then going over with black and brown lines ..*( distressed) looks really good esp when you clear coat it! Tons of you tube videos on doing this type if farmhouse distressing
Wow! What a beautiful makeover on a budget. Just goes to show, you really don’t need to have a pile of money to make a beautiful home. Such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! That looks amazing. I lived in a mobile home before my house also. It was in a state (hot mess) when we moved in it. It was a rental also. We cleaned it from top to bottom. We painted walls and steam cleaned the carpets. We replaced cheap fixtures with things we found on sale. Last project was to paint all the cabinets. It made a huge difference. I love how you and your Mom do this stuff together.
@Kristy M so true. Especially the touches like caulking and painting the ends of the countertops. 1st time here, new sub. I don't know how mom functions with so few and small cabinets so at least the space looks great. And I will need to go back and hit pause for the reveal pics. Great job.
I've never seen this counter renovation and may have to try it on our ancient linoleum counter top! Its current toy a funky green color which used to have the larger gold speckle and it's all worn off, its THAT old!
Los mejores y más cordiales Saludos desde puente piedra, lima, Perú, ojalá que puedas venir en algún momento a mi país y que disfrutes mucho de todo por aquí, con la familia y los amigos, felicidades por tus vídeos...
I absolutely love this make over, it is one of my favorites yet. You both have a excellent talent on redecorating and most importantly on a budget. I have redone most of my kitchen but the counter tops, it is expensive to get them done. I am going to most definitely do this. Thank you for the wonderful inspiration. Your channel has become one of my favorites. Your family is so sweet. Amaiya and Kaden are so adorable.❤️❤️
I noticed that you have a old kitchen aide dishwasher. On the side of those dishwashers there's a metal strip on the door..one on each side. Take the screws out remove the straps. Colored panel should come off. Check on the backside of white panel and behind to see if more panels in different colors are there. If not you can spray paint it.
Oh wow. At first I was like, “What is she doing to the counter?” but it really turned out great. Awesome job! I’d be scared to do that but someday I might try it. Thanks for sharing!
Girl you did great your Mom is so blessed to have you💖 I loved how you worked with your little one💕 When you pulled out your calk gun I was over the moon. Most people don’t think it matters but it takes a job from average to professional🏆🥇 I’ll be watching you and congratulations on a job well done. You are inspiring many to try it 🎖🎖🎖🎖🎖
I did my counter tops like this a couple of years ago in browns and black using crumpled up plastic shopping bags. It looks so much better than the white counter that I had. I put several layers of polyurethane on it also. The con side to it is that it will chip if something drops on it too hard (easy to touch up so don't throw the left over paint away) and where I have a cutting board sitting all the time, the color is darker because it does not get exposed to the same amount of light like the rest of the counter top. With all of that said, it is definitely a more budget friendly choice. I would do it again. Your mom's kitchen looks great!
You did such a great job..I am fixing to do some remodeling to my trailer. This video gave me some ideas and got pumped to do mine. Thank you for showing a budget friendly way to improve on what you have. Yall are my kinda gurls..
I would really suggest running over the countertops with some light sandpaper before priming. I painted mine 2 years ago and because I didn't sand, they have started peeling.
I moved into my dads house to help and its so outdated. Went to RU-vid for help and your video popped out. I subscribed and im getting awesome ideas from you just thank you
I really loved the whole look, let’s face it if your on a budget such great ideals especially with ideals used money wise. ❤️❤️it. Thanks A a million!!!
You did a great job, that kitchen is beautiful. Your mom laughing at you , she know she painted over that wall. How she goin to call you out say you can’t see, I love it when you told her “I m trying to help you out”. I hope she appreciated all your hard work. It’s a beautiful kitchen now.
I wonder how black . purple..silver and white would look..Humm cuz I was thinking of making epoxy countertops but I mean ...that is nerve wracking to learn
Thank you 😊, this was just what I was needing to watch because I’m remolding my kitchen and I absolutely hate the color of the counter but besides the other there in pretty good shape. My husband has built our cabinets and the counter tops have to come off anyway so I was trying to think of away of changing the color, thanks to you I know what I’m gonna do so thank you for sharing! 😊🖤🍀🤩🙏🏼😉
😁😁😁 When you were sponging white I was "that does not look good" but when you showed the poly acrylic I said out loud "okay...Thank you, cuz I was about to say!!". 😁😁 The make over turned out beautifully!! It looks like a whole new kitchen. You're Mom smile and laughter is everything!! Be Blessed and Stay Safe.❤
I love how it all turned out !!! A black & white buffalo check valence would look super cute over the window. I'm in the process of painting my old 1950s kitchen cabinets white and I want to try to update the old countertops how you did in this video.Im really nervous about it but I've put it off for over 10 years!!! It's time. Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Suggestion. I did this technique on a countertop just like she did and used polycrylic. Don’t know what happened but the countertop turned yellow and didn’t stay clear. ????? I had to sand and redo.
I am blown away at how beautiful that turned out! Wow. I hope I can remember how to do this when I have the opportunity to. Also, your mom’s laugh is adorable. I can tell there’s lots of love and laughter between you and that warms my heart. So did daisy 🐕 😁 Thank you so much for sharing!
I absolutely love it!! We’re going to remodel our upstairs kitchen after we finish the entire basement and it’s been driving me crazy, but this is affordable and will look so much better until the basement is finished! Thank you for sharing.😊
Thank you for sharing, you and your mom cracking up and picking up on each other was so cute!! Loved this video, and I am inspired to start fixing up my mobile home!
I did this to my kitchen in my house before we sold it. It’s a process but it sure does look good!! You did a great job!!! Kitchen turned out beautifully!!
I really appreciate the details given for painting counter faux marble, mixing white and light grays. You sound so encouraging! I feel I could do this make-over. Thank You!
This is the 1st time Iv watched your channel. I think your great! I like that your down to earth and are not afraid of a little hard work. You did a great job on your mom's kitchen. Your mom cracked me up. She's funny! Keep up the good work.
