I like the overhang on the roof at the sides, gives you some walk around space to pick tomatoes from both sides of the plants and also you could put a bunch of grow bags down that space too with shorter plants.

I've read that pvc pipe reacts with plastic if in direct contact. They sell felt tape to avoid contact to avoid shortening the life.

Looks good. FYI I used 6 mil Home Depot poly on my greenhouse and it lasted 7 years with wind and snow on it.

Wow, that is awesome! I've seen 6 mil plastic from HD and Lowes deteriorate in less then one year and lose an entire crop of seedlings because of it.

@@LDSPrepper it was probably because it wasn’t the uv resistant film. If it’s just regular film it will deteriorate fast and just fall apart.

My problem is the hail would rip right through it. So although I prefer a hoop greenhouse, I’ll likely have to spend the extra money and go with 2x4’s and Lexan.

home depot 6mil plastic is the best i have had mine going on 3 years and we are in Canada with heavy snow, strong winds here and extreme cold..

Very nice loop house build - a lot of good pointers on how to thanks for the info - the farmer should YT aquaponics systems after mentioning wanting to expand his yearly yield. There's so many inexpensive ways to put a system together...now able to harvest fresh organic fish,,

It looks great, but a little triangulation would make it much stronger if needed in the future. A triangle is much stronger than a square. More strength with less material. But once again, it looks great and enjoy your creation.

Can this design be used for something around 2x2 meters? I live in Norway and would like a place to grow bonsai and extend the growing season. I live at the top of a small mountain and we get full sun but very strong winds around 40mph. Would need to weigh the structure down but my question is if it's possible for the structure to hold against these winds?

Looks like a weak design; i,e. there's no shear support. This entire structure will tend to collapse in a high wind (if it hasn't already....) Need some 45's in there.

Please elaborate in more detail as what you mean by 45's as I am in the process of searching for material to build greenhouse that will withstand VERY high wind in our area. I am a newbie to this whole greenhouse building thing. Thank you kindly.

I'm with you. We get a lot of UV here in Texas. I figured out the cost in buying big box store plastic and having to replace it plus all the work and for me the greenhouse plastic comes out the winner.

One tip. Use the gray electric conduit PVC. It's UV treated and resistant. The white plumbing PVC isn't. The conduit comes in diameters from 1/2 inch to 2 inches

i just got 1” pex and 1/2” pvc to snap into. i cut out 1/2” strip from the pex. the pex is more bendable even at 1” and it’s looking like it is going to work out really well

Very nice! One suggestion I have would be to add springs to the long support wires. I use springs designed for high-tension electric fencing available at farm stores or Tractor Supply for a few dollars. The springs keep the wire taught and compensate for expansion and contraction; wire can 'grow' several inches in hot weather and 'shrink' several inches in cold weather, pulling on the frame work. I've seen electric fences without springs tear themselves apart over time when this occurs, "An ounce of prevention"..... Hint: weak springs as used for screen doors won't work and cost about the same. High-tension fencing springs are compression type.

The wire stretchers, while not necessary do come in handy for strings for climbing vines and running plants. They also come in handy for hanging grow lights for extra light during winter months. The plastic coated wire like used for a dog run cable work well too. I am getting ready to build my green house real soon so it will be ready for an early spring planting. Thanks for all the updates and suggestions you put out.

When I said "wire stretchers" I was referring to the turnbuckles on the top wire. The top wire is needed to grow vertical plants. Because you could have 600 lbs of tomatoes weighing on the top wire we recommend using at least a 9 gauge wire. Anything less can snap under the weight. Having the covered in the garden greenhouse will allow you to plant weeks earlier than anyone in your area not doing this. Best of luck to you in your Spring garden.

I thought the same thing when I started this method. However after the plants grew and filled the 3-1/2 foot isles I understood why the spacing is important.

I have such a small area to cover, I use the Home Depot plastic, it lasts me the winter season. I just take it off in the spring and throw it out. If I was on a larger scale, I would definately invest in the greenhouse plastic. This is a nice sized structure!

I built a small greenhouse and the PVC reacted to the greenhouse film and the film became brittle in a year and a half. The makers of the film told me my warranty was not good because of this. I was ticked off- I consulted with them when I was building and told them I was using PVC.

I double my greenhouse. top is cattle panels with wire mesh for hail. under that, about 4-6 inches is my plastic on a pvc frame.

You should make little booklets on the plans of this greenhouse the how you prep the garden and how the greenhouse works and sell on amazon. I would buy it.

That is possible I think with a lower quality plastic. You can also buy woven plastic that has fiberglass reinforcement woven through it.

I think if you are not in a high wind area and you have vertical 2x4 supports on the ends of the 4x4's you may not need the brace supports. But if you have any scrap 4x4's you might just put up the braces since they can only help.

This maybe a thing with this growing system but it seems like there could be more grow beds under all that great covering. Couldn't the beds be closer together or wider. Non gardener asking I will admit. Thanks for the video, I appreciate the work you put into this.

Instead of plastic you can use mosquito screening,it last for many years and allow rain fall,but is bad for cold weather,but you can just the mosquito screen with clear plastic in winter times.

You should call your local tax assessor office and ask how many square feet of a structure you can build on your land before it affects your property taxes. Mine said "200 square feet"... so I figure I can build a 14' x 14' structure which gives 196 square feet... or if you want it more rectangle instead of square, play with the width x length.

Kandy Marie 200 sq ft seems the norm. however, where I am, that's for a non habitable structure (shed, garage, etc) For a frame structure (ie hoop house), it is 500 sq ft.

Also, watch out for official language… where we might call this a "greenhouse", the USDA calls it a "high tunnel" (hoop house). Additionally, there are no walls, so might not be considered a "permanent" structure (barely semi-permanent)

The wire thing a mobobs are called turn buckles. I use them to keep my car port tight. They are sometimes used for cross supporting frame work. I did not see how he was using them on this system, will have to go back and watch again. Anyway, there you have it.

They are used for the plants. You run a piece of string from the wire to the plant below, its for vertical growing, which is the Mittleider Method! Instead of growing out, you grow them up. Each wire runs over a raised row. In his what looks to be 10' per section can expect to hold roughly 600 lbs each. Which is typical for 10-12 tomato plants in a system like this.

My 6 mil plastic only lasts 6-8 months. It truly depends on how high the UV gets. We get it hard here in Nebraska. I'm up to trying this Sun Master stuff. I'm getting too old to do this very often. :(

9 gauge wire is not the best wire, that wire tends to stretch at any point and can cause breakage, Use barb-less 2 strand wire from a feed store, or High tensile wire. I have done a lot of fencing and can tell you that 9 Gauge wire does not have the tensile strength you need.

+William Glaser I like the idea of the barbless 2 strand wire. As long as it will hold the weight like 9 gauge wire that would work as well. I estimated last year we had over two thousand pounds of produce and plants hanging from our four 9 gauge wires.

+LDSPrepper I sure that it would support the weight, I have stretched a 1/4 mile of barb less 2 strand wire more than 20 feet beyond what is laid out and lightly tight, I can tell you that it will support 300 lbs man standing on the wire between 17 feet spaced post. I may also be cheaper, I am not update with current prices but i am sure it would be cheaper for footage wise.

Great info, and it is also adjustable if the wire ever does stretch. Just unwrap the stick where it's secured parallel to the wire, give a few more twists, and secure it again.

Not trying to be controversial, But I got 6 mil plastic from home depot and and it has lasted 5 years now. I live in Michigan where we are snowed in 5 months of the year. I will say greenhouse plastic is clearer and if I could afford it I would go that way. But for someone on a budget it will work. I wouldn't go less than 6 mil thou.

Nice set up. I was in the process of buying some greenhouse plastic 4 year film from Blue Ridge. It states the warranty is voided if the PVC frame is not primed. Every pvc frame I've seen the pvc isn't primed.

Very timely video as I am finishing up an almost identical in the garden greenhouse for my two 18" boxes. I still need to put my roof support up. I don't have high winds issue, but do have heavy snow loads so I plan on doing this girdle type support for the PVC pipes. I noticed that the home owner chose not to have the brace supports on the 4x4 posts. Instead, he is relying on the side wall 2x4s. I currently have it this way as well. Would you/he recommend adding the brace or leave it as is?

Could you not use solar vacume tubes with liquid metal to heat your green house? All you would need would be a insulated underground cistern heat sink to run through the night? Novartis

I live in Florida,it's year 24/7 365 days growing season,but the heat is bad for lettuce,blueberry and many northern fruits I love.I don't need a green house.I need a cooling house,or shade house.
