Our little Corsa started experiencing irregular RPM fluctuations and engine vibrations when idling. Closer inspection of the top of the engine indicated that high voltage from the cylinder 4 coil was shorting to the engine block instead of going to the spark plug, which meant we needed to replace the coil pack. Since the replacement operation is straightforward, in this video we also discuss how to diagnose a failing coil pack.
The OE part number for the coil pack is: Opel 1208093 / GM 55577898

Thank you. My car is 2005 Corsa C. My coil pack was stuck. Screwed bolts into the holes through which the long bolts go. Those holes have metal threads in them. My pack has only six pins. I measured resistance from 2 to 3-6, and each was 1.1. So I suppose I dont have your 'signal ground'. Have spent 5 weeks trying to get car to run more than a few seconds. New pump, filter, pressure at rail is 50psi though the pump is rated at 60psi (4 bar). The regulator i think is part of the lid that goes on the pump assembly, but that lid did not come with the new assembly (5 weeks ago I didnt know all this, just ordered 'a new pump'. What is your opinion of 50psi, because I cant find any definitive specs. With all the plugs on one unit how do check for spark, assuming you dont have a helper to turn the key? Thanks. Will check out your other vids.

For the particular case of plugs, you can buy a spark plug tester like the one from ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UymD_i_9Q9Y.html, which can help you diagnose both the spark plugs and the coil pack. In general, for a petrol engine to run you need 5 things: FAST-C (Fuel, Air, Spark, Timing and Compression) so maybe check each of these in turn and see if they run as expected. Regarding the fuel pressure, I don't have the exact specs but 40 - 60 psi should be OK. Here's a link that may help you with your troubleshooting: www.repairsmith.com/blog/car-starts-then-dies/

@@TheMissingBolt Thank you for replying. I have several so-called spark plug testers; they are misnamed I think because they test the ignition system up to but not including the spark plug. I use them on my garden machinery. The video shows separate coils whereas mine are a solid unit, inseparable. The engine in the video was running; I wouldn't even have time to go out and check after turning the key and have no helper. I did invert the coil, stick the plugs in, connect them all to earth and watch from my seat when I held the key in start position. Three sparked. I went to get my camera to video it; this time nothing happened!! I can't remember if I've said I got an Xtool D7 just for this car. I can actuate each cylinder. First one sparked. Then I realised the tool only showed THREE cylinders for an Ecotec Z14XEP FOUR CYLINDER engine. Have been back and forth with Xtool trying to sort this out. 2 updates have made things worse. Today they asked me to keep their machine on and connected to WiFi so they can read it from China. We live in hope. The thing I have least certainty in your FAST-C is timing. It's not like the old days when you could use a strobe. I bought the kit for setting the chain to give the garage if/when I get them to fetch the car, cos I can't find anything on how to check timing chain for slippage. Will check out link you kindly gave me. Thanks again.

Sound like you PCV is on the way to fail if you not reaplaced the valve cover yet . on my the coil pack failed in 138KM and PCV around 145 .
@TheMissingBolt
@TheMissingBolt 8 месяцев назад
I haven't replaced it and was planning a video in the near future with the valve cover gasket and the PCV valve as well, since they're both approaching 10 years of age.

Don't save the old cover buy OEM new with the gasket+PCV and it will last 100K+ or 10 years . Some cracked the cover when replaced the PCV . This cover is the same on alot of 1.4T GM cars in the US too if you have time order OEM and wait a week . @@TheMissingBolt

And the air filter box is shaking, it shouldn't be like that. On my Corsa it also started shaking one month ago and one more strange thing: when you accelerate and push the gas to 100% she begans ticking, it apperas under load only and only when throttle is fully opened. I checked twinport, it's not twinport, it's not adsorber valve, there's no DTCs, the maintenance is performed excellent. What do you think it could be?
@TheMissingBolt
@TheMissingBolt Год назад
It's not the box that is shaking, but the air hose from the box to the throttle body, since the latter moves in unison with the engine block and subsequently vibrates at idle. For your particular case, have you checked the timing system, in particular the tensioner? A weakening tensioner may allow the chain to move more than normally, especially under full throttle...

@TheMissingBolt For me, the compression in 4th a bit dropped, I think it's one of the valves is not closing fully due to oil lifter...

the new coils always contain the spring like components, in the rubbery part?
@TheMissingBolt
@TheMissingBolt 4 месяца назад
Yes, a brand new coil pack should always come with new springs and rubber boots.
@lofej

@@TheMissingBoltthanks!! mine just corroded to the point that one of them broke off and the spring was unusable aswell.
@TheMissingBolt
@TheMissingBolt 4 месяца назад
@@lofejYep, corrosion was the main problem in our old coil pack as well. And similarly, just one point appeared to be affected. I think that particular rubber boot stopped sealing properly, moisture got in over time and caused that corrosion.
