I am a newbie in woodworking. I am also 82 years old. My daughter house is being sold and there are several repair needed. To save money I did most of the repair. So far I’ve removed and replace damaged hardwood flooring, and replace base moldings. This device is super useful. Thanks for the video.

In my old house years ago I tried making a fireplace mantle with 6'' crown. I wasted about 2' of it trying to cut it properly! Now I'm thinking about making one for my new(Old) house and this jig is perfect! I even thought of just buying a mantle until I saw your video. Thanks. Made my day!

Man I sure needed that jig 10 years ago. I did two rooms using 6 inch crown, vowed not to do that again. Now I use 3 inch crown and 3 inch base boards and buildup the crown much easier and looks beautiful. Fantastic video and instruction again Paul, keep up the great work!
@paulstoolbox

Hi Michael, That's a great way to do it as well, a few more cuts but well worth it! I have a video showing how to save money by using a smaller crown, measure down a few inches and using a picture molding as a trim. I paint the crown, space and picture molding the same color to give the appearance of stacked crown. There are so many things you can do with crown molding and they usually look great! Have a good day buddy! Paul

We get a lot of great wisdom from you, Paul. At 2:27 I saw something unusual. I was taught years ago when I was a little bunny in using the table saw to never, never use the miter gauge and the rip fence together -- unless I was trying to demonstrate kickback. To use the rip fence as a set up aid, but to avoid inviting kickback, I was taught to use a short spacer block so that when the blade starts cutting, the edge of the work piece is not touching the rip fence or the spacer block. I know a lot of people disregard that and seem to do fine, but I prefer to minimize kick back risk. Stay safe, my friend. By the way, I love that jig. Great idea.
@paulstoolbox
@paulstoolbox 7 лет назад
I really appreciate your comment my friend! I try to think of safety when it comes to my videos, but sometimes miss certain details and this is one of those times. I should have moved the fence back before cutting and I will definitely do this in future videos. Thanks again and I really appreciate you taking the time for me! Have a great day! Paul

I truly enjoyed this I'll have to make a jig for myself. You don't know the number of times that I've had to cut those little return pieces. I did one house in 1970 where the customer went to a lumber yard that was closing and bought all of the crown that they had. I put Crown everywhere. It was a million dollar home with 19' ceilings, brick work in odd places That jig and that ladder would have been a godsend.

Simple and elegant. Very nice. Concern I have is for tearout since the blade is cutting OUT the face instead of into it. With a good blade, that should not be a big problem, esp for MDF - and for paint grade, any tearout is easily fixed. However, for stained wood, I can foresee it may be a problem. ..... BTW 2P10 is really great stuff! .... The Louisville ladder looks pretty good!
