Thank you Paul for your time saving, practical, angle-cutting hacks! I'm a retired teacher who has found DIY projects like installing crown molding an absolute delight! You're easy to follow and I can replay your videos when needed as a show as you go tutorial 👍🏼
I have been watching DIY videos for quite a few years now and i cant even begin to tell you how much trouble you saved me. I consider this video my best watched and informative video ever. Super simple instructions helped made my crown molding job easy. Thank you.
My grandpa was the one that taught my dad how to do the jig you made. And me with no experience have used the old jig with great results and saving me lots of $'s in installations of the Crown molding. Nice to see some old fashioned carpentry tricks!
As a painting contractor I occasionally am requested to put in a piece of crown moulding. Now after 30 years you have just taught me how to cut the angles very easily. Thank you Paul!
Nice video! I have completely restored my home! And I mean everything!! Just bought a saw to start trimming my rooms! So glad I found your video! It’s the best one I’ve seen! Thanks Paul for the very helpful tips!
Before retiring, I was a carpenter/ cabinet maker 47 years, You sir just proved that you can teach an old new tricks. Very nice video, you gained my subscription. Thanks for doing this.
Paul, you are smart, easy to follow instructions, and the reason I am writing "smart" besides all the good instructions, you are the only one that cut the noise out you video, when you were cutting the crown molding pieces, you have spared our ears to live a bit longer, so we don't loose hearing at older age:). Thanks!
I’ve been a carpenter for many years and crown has alway made me nervous, I’ve never even tried doing it before, but with that jig I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Thanks for the great videos!
Great video man! I’ve been a carpenter for almost 25 years now. I’ve always just held my crown in place by hand. Ya know. Sometimes it slips a little and moves. Sucks right. That’s a great little jig you got there. Not to mention. It can save money on bad cuts. Thanks man!!
Just a great concise excellent lesson brotha, I appreciate and am grateful for contractors and craftsman like you who share their hard earned skill and experience
DUDE !!!!!!! THIS IS BAD ASS! I USED TO HATE CROWN! flip flopping the saw around...... This jig ROCKS! And it's quick. I use a grinder and flap wheel to cope and we flew through this house! Thank you
Awesome video, I am one of the Diy'ers you spoke of, I have seen other videos on crown molding mostly confusing. I am certain i can cut crown molding now using your jig and your tips!~! Thanks!!! You simplified it alot.
I have been installing crown for 38 plus years so it is like second nature to me. This is a great tool for anyone who has no or little experience. Nice tip.
Holy crap brother, you made something so complicated so simple, thank you.. I need to save this because I'm about to do the base board in my entire house and I have those rounded corners, I thought they would look great until I got to the point of running base boards. Now I'm good, you saved me a ton of time and I thank you for that.
Awesome thanks this is the first video i found that tackled my crazy corners and the end cap for the crown by the staircase i am sooo happy thank you. My hubby will be happy to i wont waste another piece trying to make a edge.
I want to thank you for posting this video. The jig I made for my crown work perfectly. The experience I had last time gave me nightmares. This has given me confidence to take on any crown-molding project.
Thank you! THANK YOU! I have been milling through so much scrap wood trying to figure this out with no success! i was so close to just give up! THis saved my hide
ESPETACULAR! We need more videos like that! For us (beginners, apprentices) we need to see ideas! Transitions and tricks are the most important for us definely. I am subscribing your channel right now. Focus on videos like that. Thank you!
Paul, I really appreciate your videos. You are a good instructor. I am installing lighted crown molding in a room that has 5 corners. The jig you made will help me to calculate the two corner that are not 45’ degree angles. I look forward to seeing more of you helpful videos. Thank you Paul.
That's a great idea! I have always used a plywood fence with a similar locking system just attatched to my miter saw fence. But one advantage I see in your set up is how clearly you can see where to cut on the returns from that view. I think blowout would be minimal with a sharp blade, and coming straight down with the cut, as opposed to pushing it forward on a sliding compound miter saw. I'm looking forward to trying this method! Thanks for sharing👍
I love you sooo soooo soooo much Mr. Paul. Thank you so very much. Also I do subscribe to quite a few RU-vidrs channels and almost always I don’t feel like clicking the bell for more notifications. Because I truly hate hearing my phone go off all DAMN day, but you make me so very happy to get a intelligent person explaining for us dummies that just can’t seem to get those Damn corners of the moulding and much more just perfect. So thank you very much.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Paul! Thank you for your service brother! Absolutely AMAZING, that is one easy, simple, and time saving jig. Well done! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
Very cool jig! I can see a lot of applications for that. But the problem with installing crown (that I've come across anyway) isn't so much about the transitions you make with the molding itself. More often, it's the fact that very few construction jobs leave the walls true. What looks like a 90 degree corner is usually a few degrees out of square, or one wall doesn't sit true the ceiling. Obviously, fillers and caulk come into play. The builder my wife used before we married actually had a door jam that not only curved (not slanted, actually curved) from bottom to top, but the face of it also twisted. Molding and casings were not an option. I have a 3 step method for when you run into jobs like that. 1) Take a 4 foot long piece of 2x4 2) Find the jackass builder who built the place. 3) Whack him repeatedly until you feel better.
Great video and information. Wish I had known this in the 80's when I was making a bookcase and trimming top with crown molding. Screwed up a lot of molding trying to get the angle right. Thank you.
Excellent video my man! I bought one of those plastic jigs with the protractor et al, what a waste of money, went back to my old way of doing it. That jig of yours is great idea.
Thomas, I know it sounds crazy, however it’s quite interesting. Did you ever wonder why the Sun and Moon look to be the same size? Why can’t just anyone venture to the North Pole. Why do we never see the curvature of the earth, even when in a plane at 30K + feet? Why did they fake the moon landing? Why can’t or hasn’t NASA (National Academy of Scientific Actors) been back? What is the Van Allen Belt and why can’t we (humans) penetrate it? Check it out....
