Blue cancels out orange. Purple cancels out yellow. So if your hair is more brassy(red/orange) use more blue. If your hair is darker than platinum you're gunna need twice as much dye the darker ur shade. Just use conditioner as the base and leave 5min.
Please DO NOT TONE HAIR WITH FOOD COLORING, the color will stain your hair and not in a good way. I did it with red would not come out and my last option was to bleach it and I had to do it twice. Just buy some semipermanent dye and mix with conditioner.
Yall have to realize, when you do things like this it's best to used sulfate and silicone free shampoos and conditioners. The sulfate or silicone makes it harder for your hair to take in the colors.. some people have to do it with dry hair for 10-15 min for it to work.
This does work you have to use a high quality food coloring like americolor for example I used the violet and royal blue because I have naturally orangey red hair and it made my hair more of a neutral blonde
ourmormonlife you can do it as often as you think you need it, because it will fade. also, if you're more yellow you would use purple, more orange use blue.
works better if you mix developer with the conditioner otherwise the colouring has no effect or way to get Into the hair. the reason semi permanent dye with conditioner works with it is the dye is alrwady pre mixed to get into the hair shaft
Thank you for the video! I am a Wen user and recently got my brown hair high lighted....now I'm brassy and I purchased Joico blue shampoo to tone my hair and I hate it, my hair feels dry and its crabby! I never want to use shampoo again on my hair...I'm so relieved to find this video, I just ordered the food coloring from the company that makes it...they even make a violet color. I will be adding it to my Wen. Thanks again!
I recently bleached my hair. My hair is pretty yellow, somewhat orange in some parts and a light yellow on the roots. Should I try to bleach bath before trying to tone it? I do have a purple and blue dye so I can make my own toner. The food coloring didn't work for me.
I have two questions... Does this work for natural blonde hair? And does it have to be purple? I can't seem to find purple food coloring, just blue. Thanks! :)
HI Thank you for your video, I also use wen, I just had my hair highlighted 1 week ago, It's a little brassy. I read online to use the food coloring also, purple, blue and maybe red. I could only find the gel food coloring . I also purchased the apple cider vinegar, I only got the store brand, the thin one, only because i seen people use it with the vinegar also..Can you let me know if the gels ok.. Thanks Joni
Whoa this is good!! That idea never crossed my mind, so l am soooo glad I stumbled upon this video :) :) Thanks Cara, I will subscribe to this channel as I hope you have a few more tricks upon your sleeve :) You're right, this is the best of both world, esp as you can choose your choice of shampoo as the base, plus you save a ton of money this way :)
It didnt work on my hair, any other suggestion pls. There's a marriage party in two days and my hair is all orange. I need to get rid of the brassy colour. Also purple shampoo is not available at my place!
I am not sure if they are at whole foods, I got mine on Amazon. They are super cheap there and get shipped out quick! They're Wilton Brand Basic Gel :)
+Kat Fluff youre better off going online/local store and getting either a blue or purple hair fudge (manic panic, arctic fox etc) and using the tiniest bit of either one and mixing it with a shitton of conditioner, its better than any other toner you could buy.
