Great tutorial. After watching about half a dozen others I finally found someone who makes sense and doesn't ramble on about meaningless nonsense. Thank you.
I did, but it was the first one I made. I know it will get better! Thank you for your response. I enjoy seeing someone like you, enjoying the gifts they have and sharing them with all. Have an awesome day!!!
I just wanted to say that I appreciate that you sub your videos and that you post a clear list of necessary items. I find it is sometimes hard to understand what people are saying and many times people are unclear about what they are using. I've been checking out your videos and you have a lot of great ideas. Thank you for your time!
I've been trying to do some research to figure out which brand of paint would be best used for surfaces that come in contact with food. After checking Pebeo Porcelain 150's product usage information it said "Only surfaces which do not come in contact with food should be decorated." It can still of course be used outside surfaces as this video shows, I just wanted people to be aware that it should not be used in cups, on plates, etc.
Been searching for a while for food safe ceramic paint and got so confused! Thanks for sharing this - your designs are very pretty - especially love the stencil ombre effect one!
Hi! I painted my mug and put it in the oven, but it seems very flat looking. Yours have a nice gloss looking, do you suggest anything else I could put on top of the finished mugs?
I wanted to paint his and her mugs for my cousins wedding. so she would get the her mug and her fiancé would get the his mug. thank you so much for this great tutorial!
hey amazing video..what if i use permanent markers and then bake it? would it still be dishwasher safe? cuz i did that and right after the cup cooled down once it was out of the oven..i tried to wash it off..and some part of it did! :/
This is the best tutorial ever ! i like the way you show the listed of materials and your voice was so relaxed and pretty. Thank you so much now i can go ahead with my xmas gift project ^_^
How do you know if your cup is able to put it in the oven?? because i was going to paint my cup but then I'm worried that the cup will break or something?
I have a quick question, I want to do this DIY and I have before but only with sharpies. My question is, can I use craft smart acrylic paint on these and bake it as well?
hey jenifer great DIY...i was really looking forward for this... just a quick question...if im kindof heating the mug in the microwave instead of the oven then for how much time do i need to keep it for..
I read that we should not use acrylic paints, but tell me can we microwave it? Because Porcelain or ceramic paint isn't available and I need to make this ASAP. So will it be alright too use acrylic paints? :)
Acrylic paint will not work the same, it will rub off. If you can't find ceramic/porcelain paint, you could possibly draw on the mug with permanent markers and bake it, however I haven't had luck with that method because the ink eventually wears off.
Say, I'm painting a ceramic mug with ceramic paint, but the paint keeps washing off when we drank from it. I did not bake it, just had it dry. These came in a kit, so I'm pretty sure I can drink from it. The mugs are painted on the outside. Should I buy paint sealer? Any tips? I need to know quickly because it is supposed to be a gift for someone who is leaving soon.
Blair Kim If the mug says "for decoration" on it in some way, don't drink from it. That means there is paint on it made for decoration only and not for consuming, which can be toxic to you. If you want to paint a mug to drink out of, I would purchase a mug that is made to drink from. Hope that helps!
Unfortunately acrylic paint won't work the same. In order to be microwave and dishwasher safe (and safe for you to drink from) you should use a porcelain paint.
Hiya :) love the video tutorial :) I've been doing this for a while now. I was wondering though, do you know how to finish it off with some sort of a shiny coating? just to give it a professional look even if I paint the mugs at home?
With the Pebeo paint, you don't have to finish it with a coating. After it bakes on, it's pretty durable. The mugs I made in this video are still holding up after many microwaves and dishwashes, three years later! :)
Technically, you could. The paint bakes onto the ceramic and it should be fine to eat off of, but I'm weird and personally, I like to keep the paint away from where the liquid will be :P
