DIY: Honda PCM IDLE Relearn Procedure on a Honda Civic Hybrid
After cleaning my 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid throttle body, the honda service manual (amzn.to/2BgulRA ) tells you to reset or relearn your Honda's idle.
For a normal Honda Civic, turn off every power load on your car (AC, radio, lights,etc), then turn the key to the ON position for 2 seconds, then turn on the car and rev to 3000 rpm until the engine temperature high enough that your radiator fans start or to operating temperature on your temperature gauge. For the 2006-2009 Honda Civic Hybrid, you will need to keep the 3000 rpm to charge the IMA battery first to 100% as it will put load on the engine to charge the battery. It takes about 3-5 minutes to charge at and get the engine to running temp. Then you let the car idle for 5 minutes. It should idle at about 830 rpm with no load on the engine. Afterwards you are done! Its that simple. My Honda Civic Hybrid revs were high after the procedures as well as the Throttle body cleaning, moreover it runs more responsive than it did before the cleaning and reprogramming.

I had problem with acceleration around 2000-3000 rpm. Car didn't run smoothly after valve adjustment. No codes in ECU. Checked sparks, cleaned and in the end exchanged 4 ignition coils, cleaned throttle body and it fixed nothing. After doing Idle relearn procedure it finally back to normal. Thanks a lot with this movie! I did it on parking lights on and got same good result. My car is Honda Jazz/Fit II 2004.

@@SterlingW8 went to get a smog check and they mentioned that the rpms were running too fast for 25mph @ about 2100 a little above the passing speed, so it failed. he mention that i can adjust the rpm speed with a screwdriver or something by loosening the throttle body or something. Do you have any idea where exactly i can do that? i cant find any videos on it, they al just talk about idle speed when im pretty sure my problem is at 25mph with a slightly high rpms.

I had this problem on a 2009 honda accord euro/acura tsx after cleaning the throttle body and just following an idle relearn didnt work for me, first I needed to an ecu reset and clear the throttle values which can be done without any scanner or honda dealer: To do the battery cable reset- follow this: 1. Remove negative battery terminal. 2. Remove positive battery terminal. 3 Be sure you arent going to make contact with the battery, for later steps possibly even remove it from the car if needed 4. Connect the battery cables together either using a jumper cable or clamp them together if they reach. 5. Turn on your key to on (not ACC, to on) and yes there will be no lights on the dash. 6. Leave for 10 minutes. 7 Turn your key back to off, reconnect positive then negative and THEN follow the idle relearn procedure you will find pasted all over youtube (or just start the car rev 3k rpm until the car reaches temp and then leave it to idle 10 min). You will also need the radio code and possibly relearn your auto windows, for which there is good info for on youtube.

With regards to this : when trying to idle relearn my 7th gen civic, if I heated it up PRIOR to the idle relearn then it would only idle when hot. If you include the heat up process in the idle relearn it helps the car to cold start and learn how to idle in sub optimal temps not just when it’s hot.

Thanks for clarifying that. I've seen idle relearn procedures where you just let it idle until fans come on...then let it idle another 10 min after that. I think a lot of people think that keeping it at 3k rpm's is part of the procedure.

Is it really necessary to hold it around 3000 RPM until its rad fan turns on or could it be also done by just waiting for its rad fan to turn on without holding it around 3000 RPM? What's the logic behind?
@metzmatu8409
@metzmatu8409 Год назад
You can let it idle and wait for radiator fan to turn but may take longer time like 5 minutes or more. But putting the engine at 3,000 rpm may take 2-3 minutes for the fan to turn or the engine reach operation temp.

Hi, i am trying to follow this procedure but i think i can't complete it. The rpm is still stick at 1 and not lower like 0.8. Also i've noticed after finishing the procedure, when I press the gas pedal just a little bit, the rpm goes up (of course) and then in its way down, it goes up again alone... then it goes down to stick at 1. I took of the throttle body for a little clean up, then put it back. I first received the code P1129. After following this procedure, i went on highway and after coming back home, just before turning off the engine, i get the code P0507. I might havent replaced the throttle well or something like that. Have someone experienced the same problem? codes? Any idea?

Soufiane Mess not 100% sure but that sounds like an air temperature sensor malfunction, take off the minus pole of the battery for 1-2 minutes and check if the air temperature sensor stays on right position and its clean, after that reconnect the battery and it should work fine than you can do that relearning procedure.

So past month it wouldn't start , I replaced, ignition coils, spark plugs, battery, grounds upgraded to 2 gauge wiring, ELD replaced, fuses, 130 in relays, fuel pump, injector & rail & to round it out a genuine Honda ecm reflashed with my car, still no start. I had spark, compression, air & fuel. Stumped 3 mechanic friends who are veterans, reopened fuel pump & was priming & spitting gas. In last ditch effort I said fuck it & replaced whole sending assembly, it started. I forgot about relearn procedure though. How can I reset it, is it 10 or 20 min?
