This week I made some simple picture frames. However one has a hidden standing desk. The project is made from 18mm Birch Plywood.
The standing desk was a challenge just to bring everything together and having enough space to fit everything. I didn't want the frames to be to thick. It was also important to have the top and bottom frame look the same so the standing desk was hidden. I used french cleats to attach the frames to the wall. The resin I used for the photos is from Just Resin. Here are some helpful links

I would love one of these, but ergonomic with a sort of a dip *into* the desk. Then it would be a dream come true! 😭✨

Fabulous job!! I came across your amazing howto videos from searching for the Makita DRT50Z 18v router related reviews. Beyond having all those skills to pull this off and learning a few things from your methods, getting a nice shop setup with good tools is a whole other venture.

Oh I like Dave's idea of a laptop stash in the gap, would make it a perfect workstation. These learn-as-go projects are always the most frustrating and fun, but as usual you've done a stellar job and got a great result.

Nice work. Love how the photos turned out and you could probably even stash some kit in the space between the two cleats - probably even deep enough for your laptop.

It is far the most beautiful desk i have ever seen !!!! Although i m not a fun of hanging everything to the wall ( but i know many times is a necessity that kind of structure ) i would definitely want it in my house !!!!! Great job , i want say anything about the resin because you are a master !!!!!!!! I love it !!!!!

Really cool! Any idea for how this could be adapted into a sit-stand desk that could be raised or lowered as needed?
@michaelt7191991
@michaelt7191991 3 года назад
You can try some neodymium magnets to hold the desk closed if you're against the latches. But I like the latches
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Ok never heard of those I will do some googling. Thanks for the tips and supports. I don’t mind the latches now they are on 😀

Very creative! I also like your assembly/out feed tables, what are the dimensions of the top sheet and do they attach together?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Thank you Steve. The big table is 900mm x 1200mm and the small is 650mm x 1000mm. They don’t attach to each other but they are the same height which is handy at times.

Love your latest project as I always do. Thanks for sharing. Would you still recommend the sawstop contractor saw? Ever since your unboxing video I’ve flip flopped between their JSS and the contractor. Don’t normally procrastinate this much, but a bit concerned about the footprint in my garage, and especially dust extraction. Nice to have an Australian and Sydneysider’s perspective. 😄
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Thanks Howard. I would still recommend the contractor saw for the workshop if you can fit it. I like the cast iron top and fence system on the contractor compared to the plastic on the JSS. I think the contractor will last me a life time 😀 hope this helps. The dust collector is pretty good especially now I have a big dust collect running to it.

Thats a really nice Idea! Im toying with the thought of integrating something like this in a cabinet. Can you tell me how stable this construction is? I tend to rest my elbows on the table (im using a sitting desk) and i would hate it to have a lot of flex on the desk.
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Thank you. It’s fairly stable. I wouldn’t be putting all my weight on it. It would probably hold but I didn’t design it to take all my weight but it’s pretty good. It would all depend on how far out the desk folds down. The less that folds the more stable it would be 😀

You do good videos. Thank you. I want to get into lazer engraving. I have a sawmill, so I frequently get some beautiful pieces of wood. The extention kits for Sculptfun is part of what I'm looking for. But, you may be able to answer a question for me. Can I engrave a scene onto a 6' piece of wood that is longer than the extention kit is by engraving part of it then moving st machinover then finish engraving the rest of the scene? Picture a 6' bench on a porch with a forest scene on the back.
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 11 месяцев назад
Thankyou. Yes you can engraver a picture but do part of it and then moving the laser. I haven't done it myself but I know its possible. I believe it a feature in Lightburn the software. My recommendation would be to join the Sculpfun Facebook group and have a search in the group as I'm sure there are poeple who have done and would be able to offer advice and tips.

Great ideas! I'm building a wall cabinet and my source for magnet closures has always been cast off 3 1/2" hard drives. Check Gumroad or other media and I bet you may find them by the dozen. The castings also make good melting metal if you want to recast them into something.

How strong is the polyester webbing? I've been thinking of doing the same and wanted to know if its best to double up on the webbing If I plan to add weight like a laptop on it?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Hey Its pretty strong. If you are concerns then you could double it up for sure. We haven't had an issues since the install.
@makesandskates
@makesandskates 3 года назад
@@SmallFryCreations cool, do you predrilled before hand?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
I pushed the screw through the webbing and pre drilled the timber. I found if you ore drilled the webbing it should get caught
@makesandskates
@makesandskates 3 года назад
@@SmallFryCreations does it matter what height the top of the webbing should be mounted? Could it be mounted much lower like 7 or 8 inches from the top of the desk?
@SmallFryCreations
@SmallFryCreations 3 года назад
Not 100% sure. I think it would depend on how big the frame is. We wanted the webbing half way along the section that comes down and for it to have good support we needed to come up the back of the frame. You would have to do some trial and error

I'm sorry. At 3:11 I cringed....Please please please use a push stick or a gripper. I don't doubt that you know what you're doing but this is a terrible habit to get into. You don't want a novice to think that a bare hand crossing into the red zone is okay. I love the project though. Even with a SawStop, I NEVER trust a blade.
