Do the fans suppose to come on automatically when you turn the car on? or do they turn on once it reaches a certain temp.
@RiggsGarage
@RiggsGarage 2 месяца назад
They are temperature controlled. They turn on and off based on coolant temp readings

Old plastic yup. I did plugs today and snapped every clip on ignition coils. Any tips on getting off EGR valve nuts?

Lots of penetrating oil with time to soak in overnight would be my recommendation

I would grab a new one from Honda if you keep having duds. The standard parts store stuff isn't the best

@@RiggsGarage My '01 runs super hot, and I had the TH replaced about 2 yeas ago in Phoenix, and no I am In la Vegas in daily 100 degree heat. It has never actually overheated, but has went into the limp mode one night after driving it hard, but it also seems to suddenly be low on oil (and coolant) if I don't watch it like hawk, and now I think the fan is not comin on, though it works with AC on. But I do have a Honda thermostat ready I got on Ebay, and that new fan sensor piece on the housing too, and a new relay I'm going to switch. I wonder if I should do that other coolant sensor too while the guy is in there? I actually have a new radiator hose too (lower I think), but these mechanics keep telling me don't worry about the hose for some reason.

Nice vid! Crazy question, but I assume you had filled the radiator full afterwards before you did your "burping" video...of the coolant system that is😄
@RiggsGarage
@RiggsGarage 2 года назад
Right, once I sealed the thermostat, I filled the system to the top, put the burp funnel on and filled that up. Once the thermostat opens, it draws in a lot of the additional fluid in the funnel as it is burped and air leaves the system

@@RiggsGarage I’m looking at replacing the thermostat on my son’s 2001 Civic, hopefully tomorrow, since the temp gauge is fluctuating up and down.

My coolant keeps depleting after I drive about 29 miles or so . Soon as I get in the car I check the coolant and top it off and drive . When I get out it’s all gone and the plastic bottle thing is empty . It’s August 2024 right now so shud I just keep using water ? The other day it was overheating so I drained it all out completely n refilled it with water and coolant for old cars

You have a coolant leak somewhere, you need to identify that and fix that
@ctGONZOles

How much did you fill overfill tank?
@RiggsGarage
@RiggsGarage 2 года назад
I filled it to the full line after I burped it and the car was fully hot and thermostat open

My temp gauge is acting up when the car is fully warmed up the needle will not go up and then randomly goes up and sometimes will go all the way up but car isn't actually overheating. Also when i take it on long trips it loses alot of coolant what could this be? 2004 civic with 119000 miles
@The513Warning
@The513Warning Год назад
Head gasket. The factory head gasket fails on these all the time. Exhaust gas leaks into the cooling system, pushing coolant out the reservoir. As long as you keep the radiator topped off, you can drive it like that until you get it fixed.
@RiggsGarage
@RiggsGarage Год назад
Could be a number of things, you will have to diagnose it. Could be temperature gauge, air in the system, head gasket, many different things. Could also be low coolant leaving the temperature sensor exposed to air which would give you the wonky readings. Could be the gauge itself.

Wats up riggs. Should the coolant fans turn on as the engine is on? Cause my fans only turn when i have the A/C blowing.
@RiggsGarage
@RiggsGarage 2 года назад
The coolant fans will kick on when the temperature gets to the threshold, then they will kick back off. They should also kick on when you turn the air conditioner on so they can pull air through the condenser and give you cold air

Thermostats never come with the gaskets. You have to purchase gasket separately
@RiggsGarage
@RiggsGarage Год назад
Most of the new style thermostats come with the rubber seal, there is no gasket. Just did a couple last week that came with them
