Perfect. I was wondering about the dabs of silicone in the corners there when I was looking at the gasket and you confirmed my suspicion. Thanks for not making this video any longer than it needs to be.

Great video, I especially appreciated that you don't film parts that don't need to be filmed. You explain and move on, very good, thanks!

Awesome video. Great tips on gasket and washer attention, and torque values. I hate having to look up torque values after someone “explains” how to do a job. Subscription earned !

Everyone should own a Civic (although preferably a 6th gen, or earlier, in my opinion) to learn how to wrench - it's relatively a joy to work on compared to other cars and frankly, you won't be doing a ton of it if you just do a few basic maintenance type things correctly.

I read your comment and agree although I actually learned on mk1 and 2 VW scirocco,corrado and GTI. Very similar in being tech friendly cars that are fun to learn on. I've got an 04 Civic LX daily driver and I'll never get rid of it. Swapped engine and transmission and re painted. No AC but who cares?! 30+ mpg!

Hey man, been watching your videos a little while now and just recently bought an 05 civic to get me through winter. Love the fact you have some videos on it along with Jens car. Good stuff. I'll probably do this job if it makes it through winter with no big issues. Bookmarked for sure. One of the first things I did was hose everything down with PB blaster thanks to your videos =D. Im going to need to bring it in for all new brakes lines soon here, I would attempt it if the proportioner valve was in a easier spot to get too. (not many youtube videos on it and theres probably reason for that. Its also going to need everything else lol XD. I'm going to buy a hat!!

Very good video. I did this today. Was a fairly easy job. I snapped 3 of the coil pack connectors and over torqued one bolt hole on the valve cover for coil wires. No leaks and runs so it's a win!

Great video! I’ve done four of these on CR-Vs. My advice is be patient (I once spent 1/2 trying to pry the cover off but I had forgotten a bolt), clean everything thoroughly, don’t neglect the RTV (eg Hondabond) in the corners, and don’t force anything. Be careful removing the spark plug tube donuts. It’s very easy to score the aluminum.

Thanks Karl. And I appreciate you adding some tips for others! I've done the same thing on engine covers once or twice before. Got to triple-check you have all the bolts off if the cover is being stubborn for sure. Willing to bet that has happened to everybody at some point or another

What do you mean RTV in the corners like of the gasket itself? After placing gasket in grooves RTV in all 4 corners before placing cover back on? Would like to know seen a video that said it wasn’t necessary

Did it today, fairly easy, biggest problem was getting the spark plug gasket and bolt ones becouse they were solid as a rock. 2-3h and was done. Not too bad for first time engine work

Do you know how to remove that wire harness thing thats between the cover and the airbox? I cannot figure out how and its in the way. My civic has studs in place of the back two bolts, so i have to lower the cover straight down.

Hey, that piece of metal sticking out at the back of the valve cover where the intake air cleaner hose connects to, what’s it’s call and is it easy to take out .? I’m painting my valve cover and that piece of metal isn’t on there but it’s on my valve cover that’s what on my car. Can I use a pliers and pulled it out.is there any glue hold it in.?

Question, when replacing the bolt seals, did you use new washers to mount the rubber gaskets to? I looked up some seal kits and it looks like they don’t come with the washers, just the rubber gaskets…also do you have a link for that seal driver ?

Yes, the style that need to be removed opening the cover is a pain in the ass, always go with the one you can take out without opening the cover.

hardest part was trying to remove the spark plug seals. if they are dry rotted the easiest way to remove it is to use a screwdriver to lightly CHISEL it out. BUT NOT from the bottom backside you have to do it from the top side looking down

Nice. My 2005 civic 1.7l center valve cover bolt leaks a little. That appears to be accessible without removing anything. Can I just pull the bolt by itself and replace the grommet without pulling the entire cover? Thanks

No you don't leave them on unless your new seals don't have a built on washer

Is a "good wipedown" on the inside of the cover fine? Or would it be a good idea to use degreaser?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 2 года назад
Yes totally fine in my opinion. Unless you see chunky buildup, then you would want to remove that.
@matthewlee2989
@matthewlee2989 2 года назад
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow Thanks. You also make removing the donut seals look relatively simple. I've torn the lips up despite being as gentle as possible. Any more tips on getting those out?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 2 года назад
No problem, and yeah you just got to make sure they're hooked right on there and then pull up on them gradually. If you're too hard with it it will tend to tear them. Just make sure to try and not scratch and gauge up the cover. Which if you do it will be fine either way
@matthewlee2989
@matthewlee2989 2 года назад
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow either I'm having a lapse in common sense, or I'm not hooking it underneath. I apply pressure slowly and gradually, then it either just slips out or cuts through from the bottom without the seal giving way.

Yeah that's the spark plug hole Donuts seals I showed in the video. It's possible possible that d new seals were pinched during installation. Unless you didn't replace them before. Need to make sure to get a complete valve cover gasket set that comes with those.
