Car: 2007 Honda Civic SI Replaced my stock pleather shift boot (6 yo) with a Strut King leather shift boot. Took about 20-30 minutes from start to finish. Tools: Plier Scissors Torx screw driver Trash bag Zip tie
She was fortunate because the retaining clips did not come off. 3 out of 4 fell off mine. Still trying to find the one. It has been an hours so far. Anyway the rest was good.
Right after the shift boot starts cracking, the next thing that will wear out is the leather grip around the shift knob. If this ever happens to you, i recommend you replace it with the OEM civic r-type shift knob. It costs a little more than the fake aftermarket replicas (or even the original one), but it will give you a very different feeling when you shift, it looks a lot better than the civic si knob and it will never wear out.
jramc89 luckily, the leather around my stock shift knob is doing fine. i swapped it out with a arc titanium shift knob for a year or so but in the summer the knob got way too hot. thanks for the suggestion though!
Not true the si shift knob weighs 220 grams. Its a damn good shift knob. Idk.about the type r but the si knob is really nice upgrade for the rsx's and civics

holy shoot i pulled on my boot, thinking it would be the same, but then the entire surrounding console piece came out with it. i was scared for the first few seconds; pretty sure i had just screwed my interior up to my surpirse its supposed to come out like that because the boot is screwed into that piece. thanks for the video, i never would have pulled up on the boot.

Thank you very much! The shift boot in my 02 civic broke loose from the plastic piece that attaches to the center console and I was trying to figure out how to fix it myself. Now I have a much better idea of what I am doing! ;)

Hey can you please help me out! Where did you get that shift boot from? A lot of the ones I see on websites for civics 2006-2011 I see reviews of people that they are poor quality. Mines has ugly rips so I need a new one, help me out (:

Very nice video. I ordered a shift boot from Andy's auto repair. And a skunk2 shift knob. I noticed you didn't staple the new boot to the old bracket. Does the boot stay put with pressure from the bracket to the outer silver frame?
it did. i had to cut the shift boot so that it sat flush on the plastic ring and there was enough pressure keeping the boot down that i didn't have to staple it. also, i didn't have a staple gun handy.

do you mean how do you keep the black ring at the base to go under the shift boot? it should fit over the ring...if it doesn't then the shift boot is the wrong size for your car.
SIsmiley07 I'm still on my stock boot and that black ring can't freely come off, it's only freely moving under that base where its suppose to be sitting.
flip the stock boot inside out, cut the zip tie off, slip off the small black ring, flip the new boot inside out, slip the ring back on and zip tie it to keep it in place. then flip the boot back. i think that's what you're asking.
