Making your own fishing baits can be a very rewarding experience. I started playing around with lure making earlier this year.I believe these in-line spinners are a great place for someone to start with if they are wanting to make fishing lures themselves. Below is a top to bottom list of the parts used to make the spinner in this video. (With the exception of the feathers) I hope that if you are interested in making lures, this video helps you get started. Enjoyed the video. I have been making my own lures for a few years now and enjoy it. Most of what I throw these days are homemade. My personal best large mouth was caught on a home made in-line spinner!

So this is a trick on tying your flashing on. Tie it one of the flashing, then pull both strands towards the back and then you can cut it back, it lays back a little nicer and you waste less flashing.

IE you can use 3 strands, and in the bend you can hold 3 on the bottom and 3 on the top.

The following may seem counterintuitive at first, but should drastically improve lure quality & longevity : For the first few wraps, position materials so they extend beyond the eye of the hook. Then, flip the materials 180 degrees (so they project back towards the barbs) and continue wrapping until secure. The idea is to ensure materials can't readily slip loose of the shaft when facing resistance. Note, this technique can also be used to build volume in a lure body, reduce thread useage, and influence the directionality of secured materials. At the very least, performing this simple extra step should substantially increase the holding power of your thread. As always, keep up the good work and thank you for posting!

Hey, buddy. What size clevis do you use? I have read that size 2 works pretty well for spinners approximately size one through four, but some say size 3 works better. Also, have you found that the diameter of wire you are using is adequate? I have seen some go heavier gauge.

Great video and thanks so much for sharing all your knowledge! Just wondering what size blades, clevises, and wire you used on this lure. Also I was wondering if you’ve ever tried/think the same design without the treble hook trailer would work. Thanks again!

Thanks! Blades are #3, #2 clevis, and wire is .031. I’ve made some without the trailer hook and they work great as well.

Hi! Obi just came across your channel so subbed & added to my fishing folder. I've been Bass fishing for 47 years & just bought my first inline spinner bait making kit and the same fly tying vise as in your video, also want to know if you can you tell me where I can buy the Boggs tool maker? Have you ever tried adding feathers or (skirt) to any existing inline spinners you have as I'd like add some flashing & feathers to some existing 1/4 oz. Panther Martin's I have - Can it been? I know it would be easier to just make new lures but still would like to add tails to some I've had for years or should I just cut off hooks then tie flashing on new hook and use split rings to reattach? www.lurepartsonline.com/Boggs-TackleMaker That should take you to the Boggs Tacklemaker. I’ve added some feathers and flashing to some old poppers before. I don’t think it’s impossible to add to them while still attached to the lure, but it would be much easier to cut your hooks off and tie some new ones.
