This is a test of my piezo inkjet toolhead which is an attempt to build a 3D printer toolhead capable of printing many sorts of fluids like ink and binder.
I think it should be possible to build a binder jetting 3D printer or inkjet printer with this toolhead.
In the future the design can be improved to get more precision, more nozzles, cmyk printing, better pressure control or higher reliability.

The round thing in the acrylic block is a piezo disc? How does the print head work? Why are there to inlets? :)
@dominik_meffert
@dominik_meffert 4 года назад
Yes it's a 27mm piezo disc. The printhead is driven by a L298N H-bridge and runs on 36V. An Arduino UNO is continuous sending a "forwards" and "backwards" pulse to the H-bridge and the printer sends a PWM pulse to the H-bridge to turn the piezo on and off. The upper connection is for flushing the air out. It only works as long there is absolutly no air between the tank and the valve at the top.

Hello again, I honestly have tried everything in the reprap but without good results, I use a 3d printed case with some cavities but always result in leaks. Do you have any advise?
@dominik_meffert
@dominik_meffert 4 года назад
Hi, I had the same problem with the leaks while using fdm printed parts. So I used sla printed parts to get everything water tight.

One of the issues may be height from the paper? How close have you gotten the gap from nozzle to paper in testing?
@dominik_meffert
@dominik_meffert 3 года назад
Yes, I think by bringing the head closer to the paper the placement of the drops could be improved. The distance was around 10mm while testing.
@glumfish6862
@glumfish6862 3 года назад
Yeah commercial printers compensate for the drop impact time too.
@dominik_meffert
@dominik_meffert 3 года назад
Ok, I didn't know that thank you :) Maybe I can add an option for that, too.

@@dominik_meffert something else to think about are satellite drops too. One ejection can produce more than one drop. If you search “how inkjet printers work” HP had this video which explained the head operation and it was quite interesting.
@tookitogo
@tookitogo Год назад
@@glumfish6862The old HP Journal had numerous articles over the years about the development of their inkjet printers. It’s absolutely fascinating to read. Unfortunately they stopped publishing it in the 90s IIRC, so there’s nothing about more recent developments.

what kind of inkjet printer it is ??? Which ink are you using in it? I have some idea of piezoelectric inkjet printheads. But I couldn't get this printer. What is the proper title of this printer?
@dominik_meffert
@dominik_meffert 3 года назад
Hi, it's my own design built from a piezo transducer disc driven by a H-bridge, with a pulse created with an arduino UNO, controlled by a 3D printer controller. In the video I used water mixed with black paint.

hi I connected the pin 27 from the ender 3 to the pwm pin of a L298N h bridge the arduino uno switches the motor output alternately "forwards" and "backwards" in short pulses to create drops. hackaday.io/project/167446-diy-inkjet-printer

@dominik_meffert
@dominik_meffert 3 года назад
Hi, the acrylic block is 40*40*20mm with a M6 thread drilled on all edges and a 20mm hole on the front side. If you have a SLA 3D printer you can print the latest version with flow channels for auto purging (On the acrylic block the air has to be purged through the top, while on the SLA printed version the air can exit the ink chamber throug the flow channels). hackaday.io/project/167446-diy-inkjet-printer

@dominik_meffert 4 года назад
Hi, if you want you can take a look at my project hackaday.io/project/167446-diy-inkjet-printer The inkjet head in the video is made from an acrylic block, but there is a newer SLA 3D printable version on the project site (Also a multi nozzle one). In the head there is a 27mm piezo disc which is driven by a L298N H-Bridge which gets the pulse for the piezo from an Arduino Uno which is controlled from a 3D printer controller.

Hi, I haven't continued with it because I had not the skill to write a software for cmyk printing. It would take me a while to learn how to do it and I have more ideas which I could realize whitout long time of preparation and so I'm working on these at the moment.

I recently found out that there is an error in the code for the 10 nozzle head which leaded to an offset. Without this error it should work as planned.
