I bought the same frig you did. My slider is just a little wider to accommodate the frig wheels. I just cut sanded and painted my 3/4" plywood all black. I cut mine 36"x28-1/4" to clear the jack cover. I love your rubber diamond mat. I would have used 3m 77 contact cement. I am about to carpet mine. It matches the Jeep carpet.
I had thought about doing what you did to your plywood. I would have wanted to make a door flush but when I ran across that diamond mat, I knew I needed to do something different. Sounds like yours is a really nice setup!
This was a great inspiration. I love the rubber mat. Keeps things from sliding, has a bit of shock absorption and has diamond plate pattern on it. I need some of that for sure. That was an awesome find. I'll be on the look out at my next trip to Home Depot. I don't believe that I would be able to do exactly what you did because I have a bigger storage opening in my jeep so It would prevent access to the opening with the refrigerator in the back. But it is certainly a great inspiration and definitely looks good. I hate those T wing nuts. I have found that you need a touch of grease or something that will lube the threads and always run a bolt through the threads before you insert them. In fact, I never hammer them in, but rather I screw them down and let the power of the bolt and a fender washer on the top pull them into the wood. I would be remised if I didn't tell you that you should not use that grinder blade on metal any more after putting wood into it. My welding teacher in high school would have had an aneurism if he saw me doing that to one of his grinder blades in the shop. You probably should invest in a better wood cutting saw if you are going to be doing any more wood projects in the future. I always tell my wife I need more tools, lol. But never hurts to have the right tool for the job. Great video and hope to see more in the future. All the best, Pat
I agree, it's always good to have more tools! I will definitely be throwing that grinding wheel away. I just needed to improvise. I think with a more powerful air compressor with a larger tank, the air saw would have been sufficient. I used to have one but it bit the dust a few years ago. Thanks for chiming in and I appreciate the advice! Oh, yeah I wasn't sure if the t-nuts were supposed to be hammered in or not. I would have had them already pre-fastened but that would have meant the slide needed to be somewhat installed before inserting the plate into the back of the Jeep. But then I would not have full access to the holes for mounting the plate. I think maybe trying threaded nutserts made for wood woudl be a better way to go next time.
Great mod, we did the same exact thing about two years ago on our RU-vid channel and love it. Its really adds function. Your vinyl wrap adds a nice touch. Good install.
