9:42 I use a cut pop can to make a tube for the twine. another style was using POTASH in boiled water, and adding your jute twine in it....it is a great 1500's coal extender.

Brass tubing is a bit hard to find. What you can use is brake line tubing. About 1/4" diameter. 5/16th's makes it easier to feed the jute through. Cut it about 8" long. If you can't light a fire by the time it is too hot to hold, you are doing something wrong. Also, If you save the brake fitting on the end and use the flared piece of tubing cut to the right size, you can use a mason jar as a candle by drilling a hole in the lid and threading the fitting through it. Tubing will force the wick to stay low in the jar and conduct some heat to warm the lamp oil. Helps a bit when using cooking oil as lamp oil.
@franzbibfeldt
@franzbibfeldt 3 года назад
Brass tubing of various diameter is available in abundance on Jeff Bezos' favorite online store. Thanks for including some tubing dimensions. Another possible issue is the fact that jute twine, too, comes in different thicknesses. I guess joesneon never replied to requests for those particulars in his video. In any event, I can't find them if he did.
@danburch9989
@danburch9989 2 года назад
I don't know if this would work, but you might try tightly wraping sewing thread or carpet thread around the end of the jute before waxing and feed it through the tube. Then pull on the thread as a leader to pull the jute through. The whole thread doesn't need to be waxed, just the end tied to the jute.

Use a rubber band to keep the handle on until preferred glue dries. A braid hair band works best because it’s really small. Also use glue that does well in high temps.
