Great tip as usual . Be seen be safe . Us old blokes didn't get old by being invisible to other water craft

A cap with a center hole slid over the flag mast after the water weld would center and stabilize it too. Another great hack colonel 🙏🏻👍🏻

Maybe use a threaded pvc coupling to prevent the 90 from slipping off.

Great hack ! I would insert the flag through a cap on the PVC upright. split the shaft on the flag and pack epoxy around it inside the cap. That should eliminate the wire and give it a bit more finished appearance.

You could also put foam pipe insulation in the hollow spaces in the PVC to aid in flotation if you tip and fall into the drink. This is a great idea about a Diy safety flag, and as always thanks for the video

to tighten the pivot joint, instead of the tape, you can coat the loose part with PVC glue and let it dry. Once it has completely dried re-assemble and the joint will be tight.

Lots of great hack ideas here. Another way is to use a wine cork and drill a hole for the flag. Then shove it in and pour in liquid resin. I had an old Scotty mount and 1/2 PVC fits the horizontal hole so you could just use one 90 elbow and one pvc piece plus the flag and the wine cork.

Perhaps make a solid international orange panel that will pivot with the wind to eliminate the irritating flag flap like a farm wind vane

You could use a soda bottle cap to stabilize the flag. To keep tension on the PVC ENDS that is used for a hinge; use rubber bands.

Good idea, but in New York City with all the boats that don’t look not so good. Also i use a light on my kayak for night time. i hold the rod so my kayak will turn to the fish. But i love a lot of your other ideas....

Please add Reflective Tape on both the vertical sections of your flag pole, as well as front and back of your paddles. I use the white section of the red/white DOT trailer markers sold at Harbor Freight. Six bucks makes you stand out like a lit up Christmas tree if even a weak light is pointed at you (the unique pattern of reflections produced when you are paddling is remarkable). Great for dawn and dusk or even dead of night to protect you from boat traffic.

Another inexpensive idea! 👍. Instead of drilling a hole, and messing with the epoxy, I'd look for a pvc reducer fitting, maybe 2 needed, to step (reduce) the size down as close as possible to the flag shaft, then glue it together. Just a thought. :) The folding part is a great idea. I need that function on the rods behind me that I keep snagging when casting. 🤔
@KayakhacksFishing
@KayakhacksFishing 5 лет назад
lol. Good luck on the folding rods! Collapsibles...? Nah.Good idea on the reducers!

If you put a cotter pin or Carriage Bolt do the Bend at the two 90s r take that down it won't ever come out in the flag won't fall out as a moving it up and down just a suggestion

I think you have a great idea there. Really like that one. I'm just wondering how high this flag should be for best visibility. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us
@KayakhacksFishing
@KayakhacksFishing 5 лет назад
I would think as long as it is above your head is would be ok. The YakAttack pole is 48 inches. That's probably a good height to use.

@@KayakhacksFishing - first off, I'm seriously loving this rotating pole hack!! Can't wait to incorporate this into my overall 'design'. I'm running two flags on my pole, so I go with a 24" schedule 40 pvc 'base', with a 48" fiberglass driveway marker. But, 6" of the marker is epoxied down into the schedule 40 pipe, through a center cap. So, my overall height is 24" + 48" + 4" (schedule 40 male to female screw-in connector) + 2" (metal threaded compression fitting) - 6" (driveway marker into schedule 40 pvc), bringing it to a total height of 72". I bought 2x the materials, and am going to incorporate a top 360 visibility stern light into my next build. Oh, and 'just in case', I have 30" of 'large' pool noodle fitted around the sched. 40 pipe, m/f screw-in connector, & compression base.

A couple of years ago, you said you felt 10 mph wind was about your max comfort level for using your kayak on the bay/marsh. Have you adjusted with the Jackson?
@KayakhacksFishing
@KayakhacksFishing 5 лет назад
Still about the same. When it's 10 consistent, you get stronger gusts like were occurring in this video. If the wind is coming from a direction that allows me to fish in a dead zone, I'll go out when it is a touch higher.
