Hey, just to add on this wonderful video, there is a pet brush that you press a button and the teeth retract giving you full access to the dubbing EASILY! It’s only a couple bux more but totally worth the cost saving time and frustration. Homie in vid makes it look easy and all, but there are times it will get frustrating, this helps! (It helped me, hopefully you will see it’s benefit). Have fun tying your flies! Hey, gotta say, that black ice dubbing looks GREAT!!!
I like the way that you did this and I am wondering where you get the bags of Angelina diners from? They look great in making different colors of laser dubbing.
Hi there! Can I buy acrylic yarn and make my own dubbing!? Found a multi-color pack for like 10 bucks and I get 12 different colors. I'm new to all this and looking to "practice" tying on the cheap and not waste or make mistakes with the expensive stuff from fly shops! Thanks and be well.
Where did you get the big bags of sparkle? I have been making dubbing out of hares mask, and coyote and some squirrel, but have had to buy the expensive sparkle material from the fly shop. A little help please.
i have a coffee grinder i put the wood into and short starts it breaks the fabric up the neighbour's dog has a log coat on him I have used the dog hair with the dubbing i have made with his hair ugly rainy cold day i have awesome lucky with the dog hair
Thanks Darren, I have learned a lot from you this week. I didn't see this video until August, not sure why, I am subscribed. Anyway, I just watched you 10 tips and hacks video and saw this one after it was finished. I am going to save some money with this one. Thanks. Sean
+Sean Mooney Thanks Sean. I'm betting this was posted before you had subscribed. Thanks for watching, I might have to post an updated version of this down the road to include both the wool and acrylic as I've been using both now.
I love this way of doing this to make my own laser dubbing but where do you get angelina fibers and what is it normally used for besides making dubbing with and how much is it to buy please let me know. Thank you very muck and please keep up the very good work.
Gary, thanks for watching. I also use acrylic yarn and sometimes mix it with wool. You're right in that the wool soaks up the water. I did an update video to this one last year using a multicolored yarn cake. You can view here if you are interested ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LgwAHjfngIw.html Cheers!

Hi, nice video and I like your content. I've subscribed. I've seen a few of these diy long staple dubbing tutorials and bought a similar grooming brush. I have a TON of different yarns already, just need to work on the flash. Thanks. 👍
Thank you harleyman. I was thinking I should put together a video of different ways to blend including the grinder. I love the grinder for short fibers like rabbit and squirrel dubbing. Cheers
Hi Randy, I used wool in this video, but you can use any yarn. I use a lot of acrylic yarn now and have been moving away from wool. This is mainly for wet flies like steelhead streamers and nymphs. I don't tie much for dry flies so I haven't looked too deep into materials for dry dubbing. I would start with Antron perhaps for a dry base, but if you can find something finer that mimics the Fine & Dry dubbing, that is what I would go with. Cheers
+Bob Bohner Hi Bob, because it's a craft material it may not be mentioned, but there is a link to the eBay store I've used to purchase my supply. The Violetta pearl is very close to the Hareline UV Pearl ice dubbing. You'll need to cut it a little to get it to the right size. www.ebay.com/itm/Angelina-Crystal-Violetta-Fibers-One-Ounce-29-g-/192314992542?hash=item2cc6dde79e
Hi Kerry, it should be pretty much the same. My only hesitation on the grinder is the length of the fibers. Shorter fibers do great in the grinder but longer ones can get wound on the blades. Same goes for the combs in that they aren't as good for the shorter fibers as they are for longer. Cheers
+Luke Haubrick I've started using acrylic as well and mixing it with wool on occasion. Not sure how you are using the zip ties? Are you using David Collins method of dubbing and wing material?
You're awesome, I appreciate your insights and techniques! I've spent a grip on laser dub--it's a great product but I'm at a point in my tying to where I have to start making my own or I'm going to break the bank. I figured that this style of dubbing could be made but I didn't know how begin or to which materials to use to get the correct blend and consistency. Onward to creating a killer blend. Thanks so much!!!
Chimo! I mentioned using wool in the video, but Acrylic yarn works just as well and I've been told it is actually what the Laser Dub is made from. Blend on!
Embellishment Village sells it. Get the Jelly bean pack to try. Its plenty of material to play around with. www.embellishmentvillage.com/store.php?cat=21 More colors: www.embellishmentvillage.com/store.php?cat=63 The Crimped Hot Fix Angelina is exactly what hairline is calling ice ripple fiber but way cheaper. It can be used to make heads on streamer like laser dub. www.embellishmentvillage.com/store.php?cat=20
Here is where I bought mine. It's on sale for 4.28/oz right now, it's about 30 bags worth of Ice dub. www.ebay.com/itm/Angelina-Crystal-Violetta-Fibers-One-Ounce-29-g-/192141661217?hash=item2cbc891421:m:m107m2KTxtdTd0kqkRQK_Dg
