In this video i use a single 4x4 cedar post to construct a new DIY Mailbox Post and add a new mailbox along with it. This is an easy way to add tons of curb appeal to your home and i took this opportunity to make my mailbox match our newly painted front door.

If y’all want an inexpensive 1 day DIY project, check this one out for one of those quick wins! Altogether with the new box, post and decals this came in under $100 and makes a HUGE difference in what is seen from the road at my house 🏠 Don’t hesitate to ask any questions in the comments section below!

I never thought I'd get so excited over a mailbox post. Your video is fantastic - the mortise and tenon is especially amazing. The red mailbox on top of the cedar works nicely. I'm truly inspired! Thanks for posting this.

You can do everything in this video with a handsaw, a chisel and a drill

Thanks brother! I was trying to keep it super simple 👍🏻 I have a nasty habit of trying to over complicate things 😬

Really nice craftsmanship on that! I just replaced mine but used pressure treated, cedar and all lumber is a lot more expensive with covid. Hope the prices come down next year. And used that same spar on our 13 year old hot tub we got for free 3 years ago. It had been neglected, so sanded restained and put the spar on. It has held up well over 3 winters.

Looks good J D I made one similar to yours a few years ago, an just a tip, I would wrap the base with a product called blue skin it’s a water proof membrane and I’ll help it from routing out! Cedar will still Rout after a while! I like the mail box that’s pretty cool you can order it will all the lettering on in nicely done tho 👊🏽

Glenn Lickers yeah it’s a pretty simple project and I’ll probably redo it in about 5 years or so anyway so by the time it rots, I’ll be replacing it. Thanks for checking it out!

Usually Lowe’s and Home Depot will special order them for you if they don’t stock them in their fence supplies.

I know you were trying to blur our your address, but it's really easy to see it in some parts of the video. Just want to let you know in case you're really wanting to hide it.

Nobody likes me enough to show up lol. I just didn’t want to make it super obvious. Thanks 😘

I might try but with all manual saw. Any suggestions?

great video! Be careful when blurring out the address and transitioning...I can see the 4 digit address if paused at the right time as a result. Best advice is to keep out all together although in this case that would be sorta impossible lol
@dimensionswoodworks
@dimensionswoodworks 4 года назад
Yeah I saw it a time or 2 but you would still have to have the street or way too much free time and nobody wants to find me that badly 😂

Hey there, the post looks great! Quick question, what model is your hole punch and where did you get the little metal divots you're using @ 4:19 to make the dowel indentations? I'm interested in purchasing something like that but I have no clue what to search.
@dimensionswoodworks
@dimensionswoodworks 4 года назад
Aaron Kinnard the punch is from General and the dowel kits come from Harbor freight. I use it all the time.

I didn’t want to specify because I’m sure there’s a few options, but i got mine from Amazon but I’m not affiliated with them at all so i didn’t know if they would like me to reference their particular product. Thanks for watching!!!

Hi JD where can I buy the slide ruler you used in the video to mark out the mortis and tennon joint? Thanks chris
@dimensionswoodworks
@dimensionswoodworks Год назад
It’s from Kreg , called the multi mark. They usually have it in Lowes but I’m sure you can find them online as well.

So in your design you don’t list the length of the support piece? Or am I missing this.
@dimensionswoodworks
@dimensionswoodworks 3 года назад
It will vary depending on the box you choose.

Nice little project, thanks for posting. quick question for you at 1:33 in the video what was your dimension for marking that off? ( 1", 1.25" etc etc ) Also what size dowels did you use? just curious
@dimensionswoodworks
@dimensionswoodworks 4 года назад
General rule of thumb is that the tenon should be 1/3 the thickness of the materials. For this one though i just made the shoulder 1” rather than fussing with tiny fractions on a 3.5” wide post.

How do you determine the length of the support piece? Thx.
@dimensionswoodworks

Depends on how long your box is. They’re all a little different
