After many requests for an actual tutorial, I have finally attempted to create one. The supplies you will need are below in this description.
This video is intended for you to be able follow along and make a similar fox. I do not have a professional filming set up, so please be merciful. I did my best, and I hope that you are able to benefit from it in some way.
Please know that it took 18 hours for me to needle felt this fox. It is not a quick or simple project. However, even if you cannot execute your needle felted fox to exactly the same degree, I think you can still enjoy this craft, and still end up with something nice. Best of luck!
MATERIALS
For PART 1 of the fox tutorial, you'll need:
-A felting surface (such as a foam pad)

-Needle Felting (barbed) Needles:
40T yellow and 36T black needles (www.etsy.com/s...)
** It is important to note that these needles can break, especially the 40 gauge, so you may want a spare needle or two. When shaping areas that are very dense, use the 36T to reduce the risk of breaking.

-Plastic Safety Eyes (7.5mm)

*optional-- you might want an awl for piercing the wool to insert the eyes, but you might just be able to force the eyes through the wool with out an awl.
-Paint (acrylic paint in a rusty, orange-brown color for the eyes)
-Glue (I use Aleene's Tacky Glue)

In PART 2, PART 3 and PART4 of the tutorial you will also need various "fox colored" rovings (please see those video descriptions for links). I used: white, black, dark gray/charcoal, mixed brown, tannish orange, reddish orange (nutmeg) and medium orange (pumpkin). You will probably only need an ounce, or half ounce per color. I get all my wool through various Etsy sellers. The primary body color of my fox is made using Nutmeg Ashland Bay Merino www.etsy.com/l... and Pumpkin Ashland Bay Merino from "slimchicken" on Etsy --if you are really wanting to get the exact same color. But you do not have to have the exact colors I used. If you do an image search for red foxes you will see there is great variation in their coats depending on the age, time of year, and individual genetics of a given animal. So this is pretty forgiving in terms of how you make your fox.
And for the whiskers I used some KANEKALON doll hair (from DollyHair.com) in the color Kool Black. I like this for whiskers because in any animal that will have whiskers no longer than half an inch or a centimeter long, this works perfectly. If they get too long they get droopy with weight. But I have tried other types of doll hair and they are more droopy right away.
