Today on Modern Builds I'll be showing you how to make this Mid-Century Modern inspired console table with tapered legs and fully inset doors. It's made of all 3/4" oak plywood and all the pieces can be easily cut with a circular saw, track saw, or the Kreg ACS (like what I did). If you plan on building this be sure to follow the link below to download the free PDF plans. Thanks for Watching!
Thanks to LG for making this video possible. To learn more about the OLED 4k LG E9 (currently on sale at $1,000 off the original price in the US) follow the links below:

Yeah I already see all the negative feedback about the ads on this video in comments section so I'll hold back what I have to say. Everyone just remember that you can put together this whole thing with mostly a circular saw and maybe a pocket hole jig, the rest is just an ad for some random tool you'll almost never have to use again.

This is a classic and beautiful piece, I really like it! If I could give some constructive criticism though, I would have cut those angles on the box at 45° so those plywood joints on the ends would give that cool geometric pattern. The other thing I definitely would have done as well is routered the edges of the legs, as mid century modern furniture is known for its rounded edges.

One big never-ending shout-out to his sponsors. It never stops. It was 2 1/2 minutes before he even begins to build, then BAM! An iron-on oak veneer edge banding tape to cover the ends on the plywood (which never take stain or finish evenly) would've made this look more like a finished piece of furniture, and less like an item one might find in a tree-fort. Also, drilling big goofy finger-holes instead of a couple cool mid-century knobs kinda defeats the extra effort for euro-hinges.

If I was Mike; for this one I'd be keeping it -> to put my fancy new TV on!! :D .. from the wood working perspective, what I find interesting here is what appears to be Chris' influence on Mike's designs. It's a pretty cool looking piece of furniture Mike. Just a note on your comment about screws/dowels - just back out the screws after the glue has cured, extend the 3/8 holes through the joint and knock in joint length dowels -> proper dowel joinery with the same ease of construction and you can re-use the screws again, and again!

Hey Mike, very nice job! I don't know if you can attend me but I've got a question for you... I'm planning to create a very similar console and I don't know how to be sure that the furniture will be strong enough for the weight that it will have to carry, as I'm planning to use a central part for vinyls, and they are quite heavy. Do you have any suggestions? do you think your design (mostly the base you've used) would be strong enough for my project? Thank you!

If you use real oak for base, mitre your corners and put a real oak face frame on it you won't see the plywood edges. You would get a real high end finish but keep the cost down. Good job though
@timriley5122
@timriley5122 2 года назад
Also should of put your holes back so they are not in line of hinges. They make recess bit for screws. Cant stress enough on edge banding. And oak is not as pretty for mid century, maple front or walnut any tight grain face is best. Popular for painting. Tight bond 1. For a beginner build thumbs up.

@LukeNixsound 3 года назад
I'm sorry to say I agree with the other comments about the quantity of advertisement in this video dude and with all the tools you have at your disposal, I don't see how you think this looks like high end furniture. Yes, the oak plywood is lovely, but you haven't taken advantage of the beautiful lines created by the lamination, such as mitering the corners for continuous flow, or used a roundover bit to smooth the door handle opening, or soften any of the edges for that matter (even though you were going for straight lines). I do really like the design however and it does inspire me to build my own.

I was here to write the same thing, i know that the sponsor are needed but this video as said looks like a commercial, also because there was a full fledge spot from lg at the beginning, done that you should have made the project and, maybe, at the end "all the tools used are in description" each tool you use, you make a spot, rokler, the mask, maker brand, lg, glue. Give it a rest. Select one sponsor for a video and stick to it.
