I love the concept from both sides. The only real problem I have is that the costs of materials involved with the D.I.Y version easily exceeds the costs of the actual ghostblind itself. The reason is because Ghostblind buys their materials in bulk which dramatically lowers the costs.
Do they not have a patent on their blind? By the way, their idea is not a new one - I saw mirrored blinds a couple decades ago. You can buy 4 ft by 8ft fluted polypropylene for about $20. Lighter and more rigid - same material "that company" uses. FYI - I'm okay with the deer running into my blind. Whack. ;)
you can pick up all the materials on ebay. Corrugated plastic for sign making is light, Strong, easy to cut, weather proof & sold Corrugated Plastic White Sign Blank 36" x 24" (25 pack) you can cut these in half 16" $50... Long-Life Silver Chrome Sign Vinyl 15" x 30 Feet for about $40. you can prob make 2-3 of them with 30 feet. I HATE the fact that there robbing people with the INSANE price!!! SCREW UM! MAKE UR OWN! Make 3-4 of them for $100.00 I already made 3 of them!!!
I would love to build one, but it looks like the commercial product is cheaper then all the material and time it would take to build this. How much did it cost you to male this? Is there a cheap source for plexiglass?
Thank for this video....but I have to ask how your mirror blind has held up? The reason I ask is that my box of Gila mirror window film says not to use on plastic or plexiglass.
I've been trying to convince my husband to let me build one. He's skeptical that it'll be as good. (He doesn't want to spend on the original either of course). Could you put this on some white painted paneling to be cheaper? Sure it won't be as smooth... and won't be as water resistant either, but...
My friends and I are thinking about trying to build a fun-house mirror maze. I'm thinking this process would be no different from what you're doing. I'm looking at using large cardboard sheets from refrigerator boxes - think two-plys of cardboard per mirror (2 mirrors per refrigerator box). This will be in an area not too well lit and also using some Day-Glo paint and black light along with some LED lighting strips. How much did you pay for the rolls? What size do the rolls come in?
How much do the materials cost? Thanks in advance and great vid. Thinking about doin this for this upcoming season I just have to know for sure It's worth the trouble to build instead of going out and buying one
I'm curious about cost of plexiglass and an alternative material as well. I tried a test piece of wood last year with mylar, didn't quite come out too well, kinda ripply. I just looked up pricing for a 4x8 1/4 inch plexiglass (polycarbonate) and its around $225. Add the mirror tint material, glue, stakes, cord. etc and it seems like it adds up to be worth just buying the manufactured blind. Has anybody tried other sheet materials with COMPLETE success?
Quick q? Was plexi glass the lightest material you found or can think of. Some reviews are saying its not good with wind. I want to make one but want a sturdy and light material that can withstand winds but still light enough to carry around. Great vid btw. Your gonna make casper blinds go nuts haha.
Nice video! I have one problem, why are you comparing your do-it-yourself blind with a $500 blind? I saw the brand name commercial blind at Cabela's for $239.
I've been pricing out the materials, both online and at Lowes, Home Depot, etc.. Best price I've found plexiglass for is around $130 (4 sheets 24" x 48"). The Gila mirror window tint for around $18 per 24" x 6.5' roll(needing at least 3 rolls). This gets to be around $190 before the little hinges and misc. things needed. I'd like to make one but at that price I think I'll pay the $250 for the actual "CASPER BLIND". If anyone knows where I can do this cheaper please let me know.
That is Fucking Sick man... just getting into bowhunting and am definately gonna try this for bow and gun hunting. Where did you get that privacy window stuff? At Lowes or home depot? Great series man... been watching some of your videos about the DIY stuff and FOBs and they are all just awesome man... Keep it up.
