That is a legit mod, dude. I didn't know that controller set-up was even a thing! You're opening up whole new worlds for me 😂😂😂

Haha! Well, glad to introduce you to something new! This particular direction layout (WASD key) is usually called "mixbox" layout. There's another leverless layout usually called "hitbox" or "snackbox" layout where each finger sits on top of its own direction button. These have gotten really popular in the fighting game world due to speed/accuracy/precision they can offer over traditional levers/joysticks. I liked the idea of the mixbox style layout because I like WASD controls for SHMUPs, and it's a lot quieter than the lever that comes with this particular stick 😆

Thanks dude! Appreciate the kind words and thanks for checking out this video! I got bit by the modding bug now and am working on something new for this stick as we speak 😆

@@wega_manbe honest with you I'm excited to see how far you will go personally thought you would have used a drimel to force some 24mm buttons to fit orwould the rim of the button not fit???

@@8-bitwhale My approach to this is non-destructive modding. I didn't want to cut into the body of the arcade stick or destroy any of the parts that originally came with it. (if you're familiar with the car modding scene and specifically the JDM modding aesthetic, that's pretty much my inspiration haha) And nope! The fully assembled 24mm pushbuttons that I ended up using are too big to just drop right in and so like you were saying, you'd have to use a dremel or something to expand the button holes to fit the rings + button covers. Plus the full assembly is too long to fit in the Fighting Stick Mini, but switch (with the prongs bent) + cut button covers fits nicely 😀

Alrighty I get you definitely something to see how it fully turns out so better be expecting me to comment first also wonder if there is a 3d print for the cap hmmm sorry thinking and typing is a bad mix TwT

What a great mod!!! And I have a few questions to ask. If I want to ground it, should I first connect the grounding wire of the mainboard to one of the buttons, and then connect all the button and joystick ground wires together? Can I use the original button caps with the new switch that you purchased? I also want to DIY my own hori mini fight stick, so thank you in advance!

Hey thanks for checking out the video! I soldered one long wire to the ground wire on the main PCB board and then stripped the shielding off in a few places and then soldered the grounds for the top row of buttons to one spot, the grounds for the bottom row of buttons to another spot and then the ground for the Omni Odin V2 5-pin adapter to the last spot with the shielding stripped off. There's a million ways you could solve this particular problem, but as long as all of the button grounds share the same common ground (the one from the main PCB), then it should be fine. Yep! The original button caps fit on the switches that I swapped in with the quick release prongs. These are the buttons that I used - focusattack.com/buttons/seimitsu/24mm/ps-14-dn-screwbutton/ You could probably just buy just the switches if you plan to re-use the original button covers.

Hey bro thanks for this vid Wanting to mod one for my mom with a wireless board so she can play without the dogs being a problem in your experience taking it apart and modding it would you reccomended doing it?

Yooo, thanks for checking the video out! If you happen to have both the wireless PCB and Fighting Stick Mini laying around already and you have some of the tools/supplies for modding already, and you like DIY projects, then yeah I'd say knock it out! You could probably do it in one sitting. But if you don't already have everything, I would say it's not worth it to buy everything just to mod this stick and I would instead suggest buying something like the 8bitdo Arcade Stick or the PowerA Fusion which both come with bluetooth connectivity out of the box and would be about the same price as a Fighting Stick Mini ($50-ish) and something like the Brook wireless board ($50-ish). Plus the 8bitdo and PowerA Fusion sticks already come with quick disconnect wiring for the buttons and lever and if you wanted to mod those at some point, it'd be super easy!

I have a Hori Fighting Stick Mini for PS4. Is there any way I can use it with the Nintendo Switch? I’d prefer not to buy a separate one for the Switch, so I'm wondering if there’s a solution.

Wow good job. Do you think there's any Japanese levers you could get that would actually fit in there if you wanted to upgrade maybe?

Thanks for checking the video out! I don't know if there's many (any?) that would be able to directly drop in to this stick. The mounting holes are on the bottom plate of the lever that comes with it and the shaft on the lever is shorter (ie. doesn't extend beyond the bottom plate on the lever) than on my Seimitsu levers and the Qanba lever that I have. I think you'd have to buy a custom mounting plate for a more mainstream lever or 3D print one yourself or something. Plus find a shorter shaft (or potentially tear apart the lever that comes with this stick and try to re-purpose that shaft).

@@wega_man I saw a list of input latency testing for a lot of different control devices you can use with mister and this is actually a lower latency device than more expensive sticks like the real arcade pro or Qanba Obsidian. So I think something about the internals of it must be pretty good.

Really cool, I’m wanting to change the buttons on my white ps4/5 version to qanba gravity but I’m apprehensive, your video is inspiring thank you

Nice! I've got the PS4/5 version in my cart on Amazon waiting for it to go on sale one day 😂 And I'd say if you have any amount of DIY ability or desire to just mess with stuff, then you can definitely knock modding these sticks out! The one bit of advice I would give though would be to buy 1 button of the type you'd want to swap in and make sure the switch will fit or that you know ahead of time (before spending the money on all of the other buttons) that you need to do some extra modding to get them to fit. The switches in the buttons that I used basically were a direct replacement for the Hori switches and fit right in haha

13:10 This information help me a lot, I didn't know the common botton's switch could fit in! I recently mod my mini stick's bottons into keyboard switches, it took me a lot of time to make the switches fit in the console(with violence), lol It makes me want to buy one more to mod.
@wega_man
@wega_man 3 месяца назад
Yep! There's definitely some switches that can fit perfectly into the mini! Replacing the buttons with keyboard switches is a cool mod though because I think the range of different keyboard switches is higher than pushbutton ones, haha.

Nice! Have you poked around with customizing them? I love arcade sticks, haha. I collect older sticks from when they were much smaller than they are now 😂
