I really like how you show the final product while explaining each feature. I find it a lot easier to follow this way rather than trying to imagine what the finished project is supposed to look like.
My wife watched your video over my shoulder and said "that's fun!" And I agree. You've come up with some mighty cool projects over the time I've been following you. Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us. Cheers from the "frigid Midwest!"
Was just looking at which band saw and drill press to equipment my new shop with today. This cart convinced me to go with a bench drill press. Last week I started building and installing full pull out draws in my wifes cabinets that I installed 5 years ago. I also just finished my new router table to mount my Dewalt router in this last weekend. I am so proud of my results. She thinks I am the greatest..LOL. I was a mechanic all my life.
Love seeing girls/women getting into woodwork. Growing up It wasn’t seen as the done thing for women to do woodwork. I’m going back to the 70s and 80s. My dad taught me everything I know today. My brothers weren’t interested but all I did was hang around my dad watching him build stuff. I can’t cook for nuts, but I can build anything, well almost anything now I’m 60. 🤓🤓
I'm right there with you! My husband has always worked with me and just had faith I could tackle ANYTHING. Now I have a sawmill and I can make a project from log to furniture! Keep building!
Just found you today. Well done! A few notes: - Back in 1977 I made a basic dresser at work using salvaged crating materials and pneumatic staples. Others scoffed, but it was solid. Good to see the use of similar fasteners has caught on. - I can’t abide naked wood. It is a dirt and grease magnet! At a minimum I “break” edges and somehow seal the wood. Even simple Turtle Wax to work surfaces helps. - I’ve never tried pocket screws. Interesting. I’ve been using nail blocks and metal connectors. I’m thinking of move my up to dowels.
Another terrific project April with excellent details on the build. I do not understand why anyone would thumbs- down this or any other of her projects.
Simple and genius. I am an apartment dweller and recently built a 2x4 work station... wish I saw this first. I still may built this and move carpenter station outside to hold my coffee cups and drying work.
I built this! With the plans and this video, everything went smoothly. The stand is as good as I expected it to be. It is an excellent design. A lot of useful storage space, easy to move around, and very sturdy. Thank you!
Great to see you back in the shop April... I've been praying your recovery & healing is going well. This is a perfect project for me as I have a garage for a shop and mobility is a must. Your sliding tray design is a cool bonus. Thanks again for sharing!
something I did was to not mount the press in the enter of the cabinet top. Put it forward and to the left. This opened a larger table top surface beside the press instead of the two narrow strips left and right. The base bottom panel was larger to have the drawer unit like here and a vertical half box hollow and lower platform so posts and pillars can be set to vertically to drill holes in the ends (some T track to secure the post plumb) . With the press forward and to the left I can rotate the drill head over the post end. Behind the press handles there is a removable grid 4x6 cubby boxes/cabinet (can lay into any of the lower drawers). Small magnet tray stuck to cubby box top for current in-use bits and chuck key .
Truly enjoy ALL your videos and have learned so much. You've saved me money and time. You are the only site I know of which offers plans, list of material, etc. Thanks so much. PLEASE keep making your very educational videos!! They are fantastic!!
Another great workshop build, April. Some nice and very practical touches included and your plans are the best with color coding, etc. Guess that is why you won a Golden Chisel Award for 2018 (Best Woodworking Content Creators). Looking forward to following you for the rest of 2019 and beyond.
Was rethinking making a stand for my miter saw. I like the wing idea for support of the longer pieces. Easier than pulling the roller stand out every time.
Nicely done. I like the fact that you see ahead enough to plan ahead for tool usage. I would like to see more videos on how you modify or enhance normal tools into your own April tools. That is where the true magic happens!
Just came across this channel...love it and subscribed....always great to hear a story of someone being able to chase their dreams and stop working for the man.
I bought the shop fox (identical) radial arm but put it on a lower stand so I could roll it's column right up to the edge of my work bench over hang end . This gave me a HUGE work surface where I could reach the center of a 30" work piece YET retract the press and swing out of way to free up entire work bench top , when needed . ( drill press standard table was still usable)
Really cool project April! The one thing that I would mention is that you need to make sure to fasten the drill press to the cabinet. Even though the drill press is heavy, it is a mobile stand, and the drill press becomes very top heavy and dangerous when in motion. Wouldn't want to see any accidents. I have a table top drill press as well but it has it's own home in my shop.
I love how creative you are with your storage options. I really need to build a few stations similar to this: one for my miter saw, one for my belt sander, one for the planer, etc. I'm definitely going to steal some of your ideas for storage in them when I do. Nice work!
Not only are your projects well designed and extremely useful, but your voice-over videos are of appropriate length to show the highlights of construction. I know your quality videos take much time and thought to produce but should be an inspiration for others. Few meet your level of professional editing. Go April!
I liked the stand in this video and bought the plans. The plans were great. I built the stand and the project went very well. This was my first time building anything with moving parts (the drawers, the material support system), so I made my usual mistakes. But overall I am very happy with the results.
The plywood you use is beautiful! It is so great to see you use it instead of OSB. The two products are just not interchangeable even though some makers try to use OSB for everything. Plywood has tensile strength as well as edge strength. As soon as OSB gets wet or abraded it turns to mush.
I've been following you for a few years now April and you have come a long way. I love this build because looking at my own shop it will come in handy. Ill get rid of the bench that is on no because its just a clutter holder.
Thanks April. I was going to build a drill press stand a few weeks ago and I spotted your post on Instagram about this build. I'm glad I waited. Great design!
Boy do I love drawer organizers :) I'm on the side that drawers are places where things go to die BUT if you're creative enough they do have a place! Great build
Hi April I really enjoy your videos. You have put simple back in your projects. I've watched other folks videos and shows and as nice as they appear they made a science out of something that's supposed to be simple. I'll be watching I love your shop. Looking forward to the next project.
amazing designs, i built both the drill press stand and the miter stand. I hated the big rolling stand I had for the miter saw, it was huge and folded up but wouldn't stand up when folded. yours was perfect for my small shop as i really only have room to run one tool at a time. your videos were perfect for the build but i went ahead and bought the plans anyway.
Hey, I really like the mobility of the drill press stand. I'm always excited to see what you are building next. Your presentation method is best in the business. The explanations are clear and your filming is fantastic. I've watched you for several years and you have improved technically with different tools and experience but your ability to reach out and touch your audience has been there from the very start. Your wit and charm make you such a terrific person to watch as you do what you love...Thanks so much!
April, Just a short note to thank you for your entertaining channel. In a world of gimmicky videos your personality resonates as genuine, your intelligence and work ethic are a perfect blend to compliment your fearlessness in taking on new projects. The thing I enjoy the most is the fact that your are engineering all the through a build and stay after it until it your satisfied with the result and your not afraid to show just how Kool feeling it is when you build something really neat. The one question i have is did you ever change out that 2x6 on the end of your awning?
Great...I just came home with a new drill press and was starting to think about a cabinet for it. If you have enough clearance, and actually care (😎), I've done drawers like this and found that some UHMW tape on the drawer bearing surfaces makes it slide easier. I'm not sure you need it, though, unless the weight gets too much. Nice!
Great build April. Love your channel and I can’t wait until my daughter is just a little older so she can enjoy your work too! For your build, it’s a great idea. But an idea for your side wings would be to cut the center and side rails at a 45 degree, making a channel for the wing to slide up and down in, but it won’t be able to swing away from the cabinet. That is what I used for the slide mechanism on my router lift and it works great. A little wax and slides slick as can be. Keep up the great work!
April!!! I bought SuperJaws because of your incredible demonstration of their versatility. It arrives tomorrow and I'm so excited to add it to my shop! Also, buying these plans. Thank you!
Thank you you are so talented and inspiring to others to expand our range and try things that might normally be out of our comfort zone. But you explain things so well and show us all the steps, when your batteries don't die lol. Keep up the great work and thanks again!!!
It's AWESOME to be able to enjoy another one of your Sunday Videos April! Also, a very handy stand for a drill press, or other shop tools. I'm thinking it would work well for my lunch box planer. Nice to have you back April!
I love the Masonite drill bit drawers! Best solution I've seen for organizing drill bits. Super easy and not complicated at all. I've been looking for a solution for storing mine.
Very very good project. It is very simple and straight forward as is most of your projects. It has given me many ideas to organize my garage space. ( When it warms up).
happened upon all your videos just today and come to find out that you are literally right down the road from where im building a house in Mystic Shores. Someday i will stop by your shop to check it out! On another note, a recent Texas resident i know all about Discount Steel in Minneapolis. It was our "Go-To" store as well.
Simple, easy and totally functional. Another cool build. I would use a wing "nut" on the moveable side wing instead of a hex nut. Just a suggestion. Thanks again for sharing your journey. I've been watching since you got started.
Great video as always April, really clever idea with the adjustable wings - I can imagine it being really really useful for drilling into big panels or doors!
Nice idea, I'll copy the concept for my drill! Thanks :-) A suggestion: connect together (backside) the sliding plywood so it can move it without the need of check it's really flat. Sorry for my English.
i think this is the build i like the best. very good, simple design. plus those supports are a really good idea. i don't know how i feel about pocketholes yet and will try and land on another joining method i think. thanks for sharing your project!
Well, don’t let anyone tell you that you lack imagination. Very ingenious way to incorporate a extension leg. Very similar to what I was thinking of doing with a miter stand I have in mind
I don't have a drill press yet but I think this would work great for my band saw. Also. Idk how cold it gets in your part of Texas. But in northern Wisconsin this morning it was -6.
So glad to see you recovering well from your surgery, I followed this build on your stories on IG, and loved it! Thanks for the full video! Keep doing what you're doing, we love you and your talents and abilities!!
Looks great! I re-purposed an old angle iron aquarium stand for mine using salvaged steel shelf supports to make the top. It is really sturdy and functional but it lacks anything resembling storage. I might have to change up to one more like yours!
