Where do you go for inspiration for your next project? Oh, and make sure you watch until the end, I added a few bonus features in this chair. Plans for this project are 40% off for the next 2 weeks, or free to my Patrons at any level. Website Plans : tinyurl.com/yalmu8cs Patreon: www.Patreon.com/woodworklife
I really like when people build woodworking projects with a modern aesthetic, (I can only take so much Stickley furniture plans), but I really wish with all that effort you put in you would have built it out of cedar, which they sell at Home Depot.
I'm not really a fan of cedar, painted anything better than balsa wood will work outside. If you get the plans you are welcome to make it yourself out of cedar. Although I would recommend dowels for cedar contraction at this thickness as cedar is a little more splintery which does not bode well for pocket holes.
The link in your description box for the plans isn’t working =/ and I can’t seem to find them on your website. Can you put the link in this for me? Want to make 2 for the wife next weekend! Thanks!
ding ding ding...ya, the plywood frame makes it pretty sturdy but it is not a bullet proof chair. If you wanted to make it more bullet proof make it out of white oak.
This is giving me the itch to try this with the sides as one big bent lamination each. Although I do not have the facilities to resaw that much thin stock and running a hand saw to get it would be a project in and of itself. I wonder if anyone sells suitable thin stock.....
It's not a brick shit house, but it's stronger than it needs to be. Left outside I can still plop down on it a year later without any complaints from the wood. If I wanted to make it last longer I could build it out of 2x stock, but then the other news wouldn't be as good.
@@WoodWorkLIFE seems like more support where the seat and back attaches to the frame wouldn't be a bad idea either. But overall cool concept. I think I might try this with some personal tweaks. Thanks!
Awesome! I'll be building some patio furniture for our covered patio in the next month or two. Keep up the posts. Kind of surprised you only have 20k subsribers. You're videos are produced well. Edit: And... uh... FIRST? Isn't that what the cool kids say?
Saw it in the suggested videos probably 5-6 months ago, and have been watching ever since! You, Wm. Walker Co., Crafted Workshop, A Glimpse Inside, Chris Salomone, all great channels! It used to be hard to find both quality videos AND quality woodworking, but y'all are changing that. Keep it up!
Ok correct me if I'm wrong idk why but the seat is making me anxious I mean its floating and I don't think it will last more than a few months. I mean i could be wrong but if I start making this one I wanna be sure that my effort doesn't go downhill.
This chair is still alive after leaving it out in the rain and sitting on it recklessly. The floating part was a bit of clever engineering but nothing too crazy.
i thought about that in the design, you could also bevel the top of the wood, or slope it by any degrees just so the water won't pool. With the paint it won't be much to worry about, but still your head is in the right place.
I wouldn't...If you wanted to do miter joints I would probably either up it to construction lumber (2x stock) and so splines, floating tenons, or then you could probably do nails and glue. Looking forward to see your project (check out the plans yet?)
It is more sturdy than you might think. Sure it would be stronger if it were made from hardwood, but as it stand it holds my 230lb but up without even squeaking. If you wanted to make it bullet proof go for 2x6s or white oak 1x6s.
No, he's right. Sit back into one of these a little too fast and your side frames collapse into parallelograms until the seat sits on the ground.. I agree that they look good, but they're not structurally sound.
