Great job! Btw, Running the furring strips perpendicular to joists actually cuts down on sound transmission from upstairs significantly. It allows u to identify and adjust for any sagging joists more easily.
@fishhuntadventure
@fishhuntadventure 2 года назад
Yup, I was thinking “missed opportunity!” Plus the boxing around the ducts… studs wouldn’t have to have been hanging out there in space AND you can do close spacing the elimination of that sagging he talked about. But that’s the difference between a pro and a diy installer like this- the pro knows to avoid disasters well in advance, and to use something a bit better than a toy vacuum cleaner.

I"m in the middle of the reno on our new house, and i'm jealous how easy you make it look hahahah!
@thomasarussellsr
@thomasarussellsr 5 лет назад
Yeah, we have our first house as well, and need about $130k in renovations and up-grades. However, just a few short months after we bought this 200(+/-) year old house I became disabled and lost my income. The problem is, the first step is to jack up the entire house and put a proper foundation under it (about 35k). And since we have to live off our savings and a tiny government stipend (SSI), while I retrain in college, there's not much we can do right now. I did have to completely redo the center two rooms first floor framing, because it caved in on us, and that took me a week and a half where before the disability I would have had it done in the first 2-3 days. Good thing this old poplar two-story isn't modern construction, it would have collapsed already. 2 1/2 by 5 inch wall studs ground to roof on one run, with oak- tongue and groove floors, walls, and celings throughout both floors. (1 1/2 inch thick). They just don't build them like this anymore. I can see why since the foundation (pier and beam) has sunk differentially over the approx. 200 years. But the upper wooden structure is sinking and twisted to a point that pine "2x4's" would have given out a long time ago. I have to save every bit of this house that I can. About a year of college left then I can start using some of that income to rebuild our savings and address this remodel. I only wish my renovation was as simple and easy as Utz's daddy's was.

Can you explain or do a quick video on how you attach the vent. I have framed my duct work but theres a gap between the cirrent vent and the new framed out drywall around the duct....and if i just cut a hole and put a vent plate on it....the air/heat would circulate throught the box before coming out into the basement. I hope i explained that correctly

Great makeover but the real question is how did your dog know what you wanted him to fetch? Did you train him for specific items?
@thomasarussellsr
@thomasarussellsr 5 лет назад
Many dogs have been trained to recognise over a thousand different English words matched with items. I don't know what Utz's vocabulary is at this time, but that was a well edited section of video if he hasn't been trained to this level.

Loved seeing the framing of the ceiling. My wife and I are talking about taking out the drywall ceiling in our basement in order to re-plumb the house. Don't know if I'd want to go with that type of ceiling option that you used. By installing with construction adhesive on tongue and groove tiles it's going to be impossible to repair a tile without having to rip out/destroy a large chunk of the ceiling. Still, a very good learning video with many tips that I'm going to use. One question for you, how does the basement feel now that there isn't any insulation on the floor? Since the carpet tiles have to go straight onto the concrete, wouldn't that make for a very cold floor?

@hartleytaylor1144
@hartleytaylor1144 3 года назад
Yes they are junk unless you run furring down each staple edge so you can staple the tongue and get a staple every 6 inches it will not hold 16 inches on center is definitely not enough staples to hold those particular tiles. If you are not using a dehumidifier in your basement they will warp in six months. It’s a good look but for the amount of money you pay for these particular tiles it’s not worth it. I have installed thousands of feet of this particular tile and always within a few years we are back on the job changing it out to something different. 44 years ceiling installer pro
