Hey Folks 👋
Here's a quick tutorial on how I wrap the grip of every longbow I make. I've also used this same technique for sewing on a leather grip of walking staffs as well as axe collars.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for being heavy on the fine details. I am going to wrap sections of hiking staff for boyfriend. Yup that should get me points. HaHa. And for mine I am thinking of some embellishments in the parts that I am not going to be holding. Yes! I am subscribing. I will be back for more.

Awesome wrap! Just did this and it turned out okay, I'm happy with it considering it's my first leather-working attempt. Quick question for you, what size thread did you use? Mine seems to be a bit smaller than yours and the stitches look a little rougher because of it. Also, some things I wanna pass on to other people who wanna try this: 1. I used too thick of a leather. I went with 3.5mm, probably better to go with something closer to 2mm or even 1.5mm. 2. My first grip I tried ended up being too short in circumference. If you have a very curvaceous grip make your measurements off of the thickest section. It's better to have it 1/16in too big than 1/16 too small, the leather will shrink. 3. Leather isn't cloth, don't be afraid to stitch close to the edge. In my first attempt I punched the holes way too far away from the edge (over 1/2 in) because I was worried about ripping the leather. It didn't work. My second successful attempt was something like 1/4 in from the edge. 4. I got the t-shirt hem wet and then wrung it out pretty good before I wrapped it around the leather. Cotton shrinks as it dries so if you do this it'll tighten down around the grip. Thank you @RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors you earned a sub out of me!

Wow, great tips 👍🏻 The thread is actually a roll of simulation sinew. It's thick but I really couldn't tell you the size. Another tip, bowstring makes for great sewing thread as well. You can match the color to your bowstring. Thanks for Watching

Ray what was the model name of the bow you were putting the Handel on ?
@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors
@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors Год назад
Hi Rick None of my bows really have a model name I guess. It was a special bow with quarter sawn oak riser and black walnut limbs under clear glass. My email is in the about section or find me on Instagram if you're interested. They run $850 shipped to your door in the US

Do you think I could use a thinner piece of leather or does it need to be 8-10oz for a reason?
@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors
@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors 7 месяцев назад
You can try thinner leather, it's just what I prefer. Thanks for Watching

What is that string called you used to tie it all down? Trying to find something similar but no luck

I use simulated sinew for stitching and hem off of an old t-shirt to wrap it while it dries 👍
