I FORGOT TO PUT THIS IN THE VIDEO, oops! At 5:28, you need to sew the end of the strap back down onto the strap. This will stop the whole thing from coming loose!! So it's kinda important.
So, loop the strap over the slider, and sew it back down onto the strap (on the strap that's at the back), using a straight stitch.

I would've attached the slider and buckle before I stitched the strap onto the skirt. Just to keep everything sitting flat So it would've been that I loop the strap onto the middle of the slider and stitch, then thread through the slider and buckle, then attach the free end to the waistband :)

when i saw that you didn't say that in the video i was like" that's gonna fall off immediately, she should've sewn it down" then, when i watched this video again so that i could actually follow the steps to make my own pinafore, I looked for the link to the circle skirt in the description and i saw that you pointed out that you forgot to sew it down. I think that's amazing. some youtubers wouldn't even tell you and instead they would just let you screw up. It's nice to know you care about your subscribers. :3 btw I love your videos and I'm planning to make the pinafore and the bralette! Ily
@CatnipLingerie
@CatnipLingerie 9 лет назад
If you didn't want to totally commit to having a the pinafore, rather than stitching it on the the waistband, you could add buttons inside the waistband and button holes to the pinafore sections. That way the pinafore is removable and you can also wear the skirt plain.

just wanted to express my immense appreciation for you acknowledging size variations both short and tall. I know it's such a little thing but your straight up recognising that women over 6ft exist makes me feel very included and considered, more so than I feel on most high streets, thanks for that. your videos are so clearly explained you make these projects look so easy, definitely need to dust off my sewing machine.

I want to thank you a lot for this video. Years ago when I was around 13 years old I followed this tutorial with my mother and made a navy blue pinafore thanks to you! We were financially tight back then and having this dress made my confidence sky rocket as a teen. It also was a nice way to bond as a mom and daughter ❤ I wish you all happiness in your life

Thank you so much for such an easy to follow tutorial. My husband watched me struggling with turning out the strap and came up with the idea of sewing a thin piece of fabric to the end on the inside of the tube, and then simply (and so, so quickly) pulling on it to turn the strap the right way out, then cutting off the fabric - saves 1/2 an hour struggling!

I must say these videos were very easy to follow. Mostly thanks to all the measurements provided. It took me all afternoon because I hadn’t done any sewing in ages, but my daughter seemed excited to try on her new outfit. Ours was made out of black denim with lace at the hem. Will have to work on my stitching! Not super straight, but the objective of making my daughter happy was achieved! Thank you for this video, I hope to see more!

A tip for the straps: When you sew them you can put a rope or thread inside and sew it in one of the corners, when sewing the thread will remain inside the tube but it will be loose, and when you finish you just have to hold the fabric tube and pull the inside thread (note: the thread or string inside has to be a little longer) I hope it will help! I really love your videos ♥️✌🏼

+Annika Victoria Thanks just checked it... would have probably figured it out after making xD Quick tip, if you are planning to ALWAYS wear your pinafore with a cross at the back then sew the straps on at a 45 degree angle. It will stop the "gaping" at the back. But atlas your way you can wear it both ways :)
@AnnikaVictoria24

Ooooh yeah, of course. They don't gape too much luckily, and I wanted the option, but that's definitely a good idea for my future pinafores :)

BTW, always wash cotton fabric in cold water to prevent unwanted fading whether its new or recycled fabric. Adding RIT Color Stay to your cold wash can also be helpful w/fabric you have not dyed yourself. A few of my recycled high quality garments have had the color semi-restored to original brightness ...

A tip for making the tube inside out: use a safety pin and tie it to a piece of yarn, hold the tube open so you can drop the pin through with no interference, pin the end of the tube and pull the yarn gently until your tubes inside out! It's so simple and definitely takes less time then 30 minutes lol

I made this yesterday with a non-strech fabric. I absolutely loved the way it turned out :) I also made a pocket on the front of the chest-piece with a jeansbutton. I didn't have the things-that-you-don't-the-name-of-that-comes-with-the-clips in the same colour as the clips I was using, so I didn't use them. Instead I made the whole adjustable at the back, by putting two normal buttons on the inside of the waistband at the back of the skirt, and I made 5 buttonholes on the straps so I can adjust the length of the straps. However there is a tiny mistake in the video of the half cirkle skirt: you forgot to add a seam allowance (you only added a hem allowance for the bottom of the skirt). So the step you do when putting in the zipper (folding the sides of the skirt twice) would have made my whole skirt non-fitting if I didn't add a seamallowance there. The skirt would also be a bit shorter if I didn't add one for the top of the skirt to sew together with the waistband. I'm happy I have a little bit of experience and saw this on time, but because I was working with a nonstretch fabric this could have caused some serious problems. Maybe you could also tell your viewers in the comments of that video that you've forgotten that? Anyway thanks a lot for this video!

+Annika Victoria You can use safety to returns the straps tube, it's really easier. You just have to pin a safety pin at the end of the tube (you can see how to make that on internet. Sorry, I'm french, my english is not good and I'm not good explaining)and then the turning process won't be a nightmare anymore!

Your name is Annika and you craft, and MY name is Annika and I craft! That makes me happy - I don't meet very many Annika's in America! Also this is super adorable and I want to make it! I made overalls with an old pair of shorts by hand sewing, but the bib part didn't look good. Hopefully if I follow your steps and use a machine it will look better!

You should try the trick for turning tubes where you see the tube with a small piece of ribbon in the fold away from your stitches, safety pin it in one end and pull out the other and it will turn the tube in seconds.

hey Annika, for turning the straps outside in, use a safety pin and pin it to one side of the fabric, and feeling for the pin, start bunching the fabric and start pushing the pin. it's a trick I learned from my cousin.

Annika Victoria That's awesome ^_^ Yeah she was teaching me how to make a pair of comfortable pajama pants, though they're lost now, but they were really nice and fit well xD You're welcome hehe

Thanks, Annika! I have this dress that is a bit big on me and wanted to turn it to something i'd wear again! A pinafore is a great idea for that. Although I'd obviously have to make some innovations from the video there's a lot of tips that help! so thanks for uploading this video

I mean, I've never sewn (hope it's how you say it) anything in my entire life, and I made a half circle skirt today (with a little help from my mom), and I think it looks really pretty :)

HI just a tip, you can turn straps right sides out with a safety pin, just like when you thread elastic, same technique, way quicker.
