Welcome back to another build here on our channel - The Idaho Panhandlers! Today we're constructing one of my favorite projects to date, and that's a DIY Porch Bed Swing - Twin Size Edition. This was an extremely easy project to construct and it took us a weekend to finish. As I'm writing this description out you can bet on the fact that I'm sitting in our new swing as I type.
This is not our design, and we do not own the plans for it. Instead, this design came from Etsy from a seller known by 'PlankAndPillow.' We bought these plans for $15 and I'm glad we did because it made the build extremely easy with the included cut-list and step by step directions on how to construct it.
Check out the Etsy 'Classic Porch Swing Bed' Plans here: www.etsy.com/l...

**Disclaimer: We are not being sponsored by 'PlankAndPillow' or Etsy for this video. We built it on our own accord, and purposely did not include cut-lists or other specific items mentioned in the build-plans. This is not our design, and we do not own the plans for it.

How much did it cost to build?

Oh, super glad you made a full-length video on the porch swing! Man, that looks comfortable!!! We were a bit sad when you removed the seating between the trees in the front of your home during the spring cleanup, but now we can see why! 😊 Etsy is a great resource. I have purchased a few cut lists for some projects I plan to knock out when we get out there!!! Good idea to cut everything at once IMO, it is a huge time saver rather than going back and forth. It also makes assembly a lot quicker. Glad to see Tessa and Lolly in the video! Tessa really helped a lot!!! Lolly was the cheerleader! Nice job getting everything to the proper length. Everything fits together nice and snug!!! No unsightly gaps!!! Adding the glue and using screws were a great update IMO. They will add life to the project for sure. I think the pilot holes were also key. It must have been great having Tessa there helping. Building out the frame in 3 hours was pretty quick! I think it would have been a handful trying to tackle that yourself. You would have needed another set of arms OR a ton of clamps! Gotta love a grocery store that is a hardware store too. One stop shopping! How did the hand sander hold out? Did the battery last? I was thinking about getting a battery powered orbital sander, but I was concerned I would run out of battery before the project was finished. I am hoping our property will allow us to do the same type of project. How did you figure out where to install the hooks on the ceiling? Did you install them in the rafters? My Mom thinks you just screwed them into the 4x8, but I don’t think that would support the weight. I love the look of the rope. Are you concerned it will stretch over time? Did you make any plans to compensate for that? How did you figure out the height to set the bottom of the swing seat? I noticed you used the 5-gallon barrels, but how did you compensate for the thickness of the mattress? The seat height looks perfect!!! Also, how did you figure out the spacing from the back of the swing to the side of your home? This probably has to do with the question above regarding the placement of the hooks on the ceiling. It looks like you got everything exactly perfect!!! I think you two did a great job building the carcass, but you really crushed the placement and installation of the swing. That to me seems to be the hardest part of this build. If you don't get that right, the project is destined to fail. That would have cost a fortune if you purchased it from the store. Not bad for the price of materials and a weekend’s worth of sweat equity!!! I agree with Tessa, it seems more like a glider, than a swing. I bet in addition to everything you are using it for, Lolly finds a way to take a nap or two on it! Great job! Hope you guys get a chance to use it a lot!!! Be safe and stay well!!!

I would have to listen to John Anderson's song Swingin while sitting in it.
