Very good attempt, but biggest flaw is the fact the pump is exposed creating a lot of micro bubbles to escape and possibly enter DT. I also think you would be better off using an airstone somewhere to create smaller bubbles. Seems like an excessive amount of work, not to mention sourcing the parts for an item that can be purchased new for as little as $30. Even a good second hand skimmer maybe $50.
I'll copy your design with 2 modifications. 1. The pump will be placed in the main container with the water inlet via new hole. 2. The pump impeller will be placed with suitable modified bioball to create even smaller bubbles. Thanks for your sharing your idea. Love and respect from Malaysia.
Great job. Nice to see someone reusing what is effectively junk and turning it into something so useful it looks good to. I have a very expensive setup at home and I have challenged myself to duplicate at the office for £200 buying used bur it would be almost impossible without tricks like this. Thank you,
