Any recommendations on how to get it further from the wall? I'm trying to install this in my garage and I want to be at least 1 foot away from the wall

Below is a link to find SketchUp file of this design for anyone curious, under the metalworking section! workshopedits.com/free-designs/pull-up-bar Do the following: Use two 12” pipes to extend out horizontally from the walk. Get 2 x 18" pipes and use a T fitting in the middle of the bars to connect them. Use a longer pipe piece to stick out diagonally from the middle T fitting piece and down to a 45 degree elbow piece that will allow you to connect it to a wall flange below high in the middle of the bar or below (probably around 16" - this pipe will be smaller if you shorten the 12' pipes that stick out horizontally. Send me a DM on Instagram I can elaborate to anyone who needs help. Cheers

Just remember that you'll have to account you added leverage if you extend the bars, and will need to add some sort of extra secure points, or higher tensile screws.

Use a corner of the room. Then all you have to to is secure a block to each wall to support the bar. You can even make it so you can just lift the bar off, so you can use a barbell you already have

I wouldn't trust toggles or drywall anchors. If you can't mount directly to a beam, I would use a stringer board anchored to studs in 3-4 places and the flanges attached to the stringer in using bolts going all the way through the stringer with carriage bolts or hex type. With studs only being 3-1/2 " wide, it's not likely the flange holes will all line up. So a stringer or beam provides a better mounting option.

Ideas on what is the best way to set up a bar on the ceiling . Goal is not to do to pull ups , but simply hang . So no head clearance above the bar is required . Struggling to find a way to have the bar and the hanging system ( bolts or what ever is used ) to look not bulky and ugly . Gonna have that in my living room . Thank u all ( in Europe )

I need one so I can bolt it to a tree branch in my local park the branch is perfect height but to thick to grip😀when I lived in the Bronx there was monkey bars in every park around 238th street on broadway and around kings bridge were I lived !! In Ireland they don’t but anything in the parks for exercise which would be good for kids to see people doing to peek there interest instead of staring at an iPad and eating crisps 😂😂😂thanks great video I’m doing this on Monday 🇮🇪🇮🇪

Vide idea: can u make a diy free stand pull up bar, meaning not attached to any wall just on the ground and moveable, so u can screw the flanges to tires and add a pipe to, so the tire are the base of support on the ground

@abdulaziz9988

So all of the pieces should be 3/4 inch, including the pipe?
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 4 года назад
I have always preferred pull-up bars that are ~3/4” thick so I went with it. You can absolutely use 1” pieces, just make sure they are all the same thickness so they screw together. I realize my vid was a tad confusing because my store only had 1” flanges so I bought elbows that converted 3/4” to 1” so my bar is 3/4” but my small nipple pieces and flanges are 1”. Hope that helps clarify.

@kengreenbaum1165
@kengreenbaum1165 2 года назад
How did you align the elbows/flanges so that they are still both tight?
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 2 года назад
There is a tightness you can get after a certain amount of twists, and there is usually additional room to then tighten and align more - when you have the mechanical leverage to turn with a longer pipe it becomes really easy to get it tight and aligned
@kengreenbaum1165
@kengreenbaum1165 2 года назад
Thanks. 90deg off is about as close as I can get sans mech adv. Not sure that will get me all the way there but will try. Probably okay to be backed out 3/4 of a turn for alignment, if need be. Thanks!
@workshop_edits
@workshop_edits 2 года назад
Yea backing out is probably fine, but if you put in another pipe on the end that should give you plenty of leverage to twist it another quarter turn

Dude for a 3 foot span, 1/2 IRON pipe will hold 140 all day so long as flanges are mounted into studs. You will not bend a 1/2 iron pipe w/ 140 pounds.

Can’t honestly tell you. If you added an extra flange in the middle and/or mounted it to ceiling studs it would be much more secure. Also check out the pinned comment for a modified design.

I bought this to replace a very similar item whose foam grips had worn after years of use. ru-vid.comUgkxwyoGHi-cCLV1AqJYj7QeIWKSpdRMYPF1 This one is is even slightly better than the old one I had! (Sorry I don't remember the brand or model.) This bar sits a bit higher in the doorway, giving me more ground clearance for movement, and the foam grips and foam pads that protect the doorway are thicker. It was also very quick and easy to assemble. The only minor gripe I have is that the hand grips in the middle are really tight on the bar, and therefore hard to slide along the bar if you want a wider or narrower grip. You have to be patient and gradually work them into the position you want.
