DIY: PVC Pressurized Water System on a Toyota Tacoma

My son works in the field a lot and gets his waders and equipment dirty and muddy. So we came up with this air pressured water tank. It hold around 8 gal. of water. We built the tank out of PVC piping and welded our own brackets to mount inside of his Toyota Tacoma. Since the Tacoma has an electric outlet in the bed it was easy to hook up an air pump . With 25 to 30 psi in the tank the water comes out like a garden hose.Over all it ended up working really well. This would really come in handy when camping or doing other outdoor activities. Everything was bought at a big box store , auto supply and Amazon.

I had this same idea last year for my wife’s greenhouse so it could be on a timer while we are on vacation. You are the only person I’ve seen build this. Thought I had an original idea. I’m adding a battery operated timer for a misting system. Only needs 5 minutes a day. Thanks for the video.

You can get a 12v wash down pump for like rv , boat etc . They come equipped with a pressure switch to stop water flow when not in use . Fix a hose on one side to drop in your jug and the shower on the other. Hook it to 12v and your good to go

The Muz Shop - Nice build. Love the custom welded hangers. Hey it's your day job, so of course, your beads are perfect . The quick release system is pure gold. I have a few humble suggestions for the next build. Your paint job which will start to show scratches double quick. Try covering the whole works with black bed liner or undercoat to give it a extra thick skin. You might consider switching the hangers the passenger side. When parked in the street it's a lot easier to fill up with a hose at the curb rather than run it all the way across (undo, around) the truck and perhaps stand in traffic. Once again nice build and thanks for sharing.
@TheMuzShop
@TheMuzShop 5 лет назад
ScorpionRegent thanks good tip on the paint. As for the side we mounted it , was because the compartment and outlet for the air compressor was on that side so we didn’t have to run chords across the bed. Worked out great. Thanks again 👍👍

Possibly large washers backside in through the plastic itself ( access holes for d rings forward and aft). Wander if it will hold well enough…….. pretty durable material. Anyone else have this issue? How’d you deal with it? I’m all ears to any potential solutions….. thanks guys…..

Safer to add a stand pipe along pipe to compress air. If completely full off water you'll have hydraulic issues. Air compressors do not compress water. Unless you make a air pocket by lowering level a little.

Word to the wise...there is 6" PVC that is meant for pressurized applications (typically up to 180 PSI) and there is PVC that is only meant for gravity flow. Buy the former for this kind of project. My only concern is hanging the 50-60 pounds of weight (when full) on the side of a vehicle roof rack...I'd be using a stainless clevis hanger mounted sideways.

Ya I'm not sure why we put that 45 in, but we ended up replacing it after testing the tank. That 45 stoped us from filling the tank to capacity . So we replaced it with a straight piece and a new valve.. Notice at the end of the video you see a new value.Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍👍

We used 6" pipe and made it 5' long. It holds about 7 1/2 gals. Thanks for watching.

Just went to Home Depot and then a Ferguson’s to make one of these. They warned me to not make one because the threaded fittings will not hold the pressure over time. Did anyone find alternatives? Looking to make one out of 3 inch pvc.

I’m pretty sure my son doesn’t keep it under pressure all the time. If you have that pump just fill it with air when needed. He’s had no problems with his. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

what is the size drill bits used? why you make the curve to the water intake?

We actually ended up replacing that 90 with a straight one .....Use a drill bit as close to the size you need for a tight fit...

How long does it have decent pressure for if pressing trigger continously? I done similar but with a water pump and used my rear bumper as the water tank on a wrangler.. Have a different vehicle now that bumper won't hold water so looking to do the same..
@TheMuzShop
@TheMuzShop 5 лет назад
It actually pumps water for a surprising long time, ( never timed it) but with this set up you could quickly pump more air in the tank when the water pressure weakens and until you run out of water. Hope that helps and thanks for watching. If you need to know a more accurate time, I could ask my son. Let me know... Muz

Why use the putty and not just pvc cement/epoxy?
@TheMuzShop
@TheMuzShop 4 года назад
thanks for watching. The putty was used on the metal air value and any other part that I had to drill the hole cause they were not a factory fit or a perfect fix, to fill in the gaps.....

How many psi does it crank up to? Max psi for pump? Max psi for pipe? And how long does the water last at full power?
@TheMuzShop
@TheMuzShop 4 года назад
the pump goes to 70lbs as for the pipe not sure the max but we've pushed it to 40lbs and it was fine.... Its stays powerful longer than you would think, not sure time wise... thanks for watching.

The fatal flaw in your design is the Use of epoxy. In a water environment it is not going to hold up to vibration, swelling & contraction (barometric pressure) & will eventually crack & fail. You should’ve used some type of threaded O-ring pinch seal arrangement. As an engineer, you need to think long term...

@@TheMuzShop o I wasn't being facetious. I literally wss asking your reasoning for the elbow. I good I can take from your response that it didn't work well bit either way what was your original reason for it. Honestly curious. Thanks
@TheMuzShop
@TheMuzShop 5 лет назад
@@freepilot7732 Thinking back I really don't think there was a real reason for the elbow. We needed something to go through the wall to hook up the intake value and that was all we had...
