Ellen. I just gotta say, I love your channel. I make soap and lotion just for me and give away everything as gifts. I don’t actually sell anything. Just a fun hobby for me in my old age. I love how you explain everything. Once again, great job!
The recipe was wonderful! I made 3 batches - different scents. I soaked the oats longer on one batch and found that the extra 'starchiness' of the water made that batch a lot thicker. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the info Juicy. I was going to make a more concentrated version by blitzing the oats, hmmm, might have to rethink this one. I'm looking at also adding coconut water and use a coconut lime fragrance.
Hi Ellen, I made this yesterday and I added on ounce of calendula extract in the cool down phase (I doubled the recipe). I also used an essential oil blend instead of fragrance oil. I’ve got friends testing and they love it…as do I. 😄. Love your recipes!! Thank you so much!
This brought up a memory from the 70's when our Family raised our own Honeybees. That lead to having all kinds of products from the bees, such as honey, beeswax, propolis, and even bee pollen, and at times royal jelly! I decided to make small quantities of lip balm, ointments and creams. I rendered my own beeswax in the kitchen ending up with crude measurements of approx 1 ounce with a food scale after pouring the warm wax into plastic ice trays. We had no internet at that time. I relied on old recipes from farm & country books I may have purchased at beekeeping events, state fairs or in newsletters from our Texas Beekeepers Association. I loved the end results using the fragrant beeswax, a little honey, almond oil...and at times an addition of the other extra special ingredients from our own bees! My Children remember this experience and now craft and practice the use of natural products in a variety of fun and healthy ways to enhance their lives. This last Christmas my 25 year old Grand Daughter gave gift pkgs with beautiful labeling of 3 fragrant personal sprays to use in our homes. Made with essential oils and natural ingredients. We all loved them and still try to pass on to each other new ideas! ~ Your lotion is a special find for me! I prefer to use natural clean based products. So, I will utilize your info as a treasure to share with our Family and circle of Friends! Thank you from SE Texas. ❤ 🍯 🐝
My daughter wants to make this lotion. She loves the oats in it. It looks very nice and creamy. Again thank you so much for sharing your recipes with us.❤
I always get so excited when I see you post something new! Im like yayyayyya I can't wait to see what Ellen has for us. Your channel brings me happiness.
Hi Ellen! Was at a Market this week, I got all the vendors to try this lotion they absolutely loved it, thank you so very much I absolutely love watching your videos ,you are The best
Hi Ellen ! This is the best hand lotion I’ve ever made , my fragrance oil is hello Sugar, the scent is absolutely wonderful, cannot keep this in at all.thank you so much, if I could give you a big hug I would
Love this recipe too. Cant beat oatmeal, so soothing and nourishing. This recipe is perfect for my daughters as they more lotion girls cause always racing about and in a rush. Thanks heaps Ellen, so going to make this for them.
All I can say is OMG! I absolutley love this lotion! I was trying to pair up a lotion to go with my massage bar soaps and just thought I would try this. I scented it with oatmeal milk and honey, same as my soaps, I love it! Thank you for sharing!
Watching your videos is my new obsession! Can you do a video explaining how to know the amount of scent to use in a product? You've talked about it before, but it is confusing!
How exciting!!! One day I want to learn to make all of my own home made soaps, lotions, shampoo & creme rinse bars and lip balm! I have only just started this September...soap bars are first. I have so much to look forward to. ❤
Love watching a pro in action, and thank you again for sharing your recipe in such detail. I have resisted making recipes with preservatives due to skin allergies, but might have to give in and try a few of yours.
Hi Ellen, thank you so much for sharing both recipes. Will be making for my family. I'm glad I found & subscribed to your channel. Love from Perth West Australia ❤ 😊
Hi Sandra. G'day from North Burnett in Queensland. Nice to meet someone from across the continent. Isn't Ellen great. You've gotta try the lip balm recipe. It's amazing (it's the minty choc one). So gorgeous, friends I've given it to rave about it.
Ellen, Thank You for sharing your amazing recipe! I made this lotion last night. For the 43 g of oils I used avocado oil and other oils low in comedogenic rating. I am fairly new to the lotion making world and very exited to learn!
I will try this...I've always wanted to put in some homemade oat milk but didn't know if it would be safe or not. YOu have inspired me...again! Thanks Helen Ruth.
Great video again Ellen ❤ what is the difference between Colloidal Oats and Oat Water Ellen? Oh and I totally use the Pro Tip, it definitely works 😂❤ I would be very interested how to upload a purchased font on Online Labels, I couldn’t figure it out…..obviously, I am tech challenged also…lol
Ellen, i notice you dont use stearic acid or cetyl alcohol in conjunction with the wax. May i ask why? Ive learned they go together,,, but your lotions and creams font have it and look luxurious!
Omg just love it, im going to make for my 4 yr old grandson, Question what size beaker did you used I went to Amazon they have so many didn’t know what size to buy. Ty so much for sharing. You are the best.
Thank you so much, Ellen, love the ratio for a lighter version. May I ask how you managed to print just 1 label on the sheet? Have a blessed weekend with your family 😊
@Ellen Ruth Soap thank you so much for the fast reply. I will definitely look into that. I as of right now print a whole page for a few labels and that's very expensive 🫤
Hi Ellen! I've tried the oatmeal potted version lotion as well as the easy pump lotion recipe and yesterday I tried the milky oatmeal lotion in a pump bottle. I'm trying to figure out why when I rub in the lotion it is not absorbing quickly but leaving a white cast all over my skin? After a couple of minutes it does absorb. With the milky oatmeal version I did do the 9 oz of water 1 oz of e-wax and 2 oz of oils (Avocado and Sunflower). I did the oat water and colloidal oats and used soft and silky type e-wax. When applying it's white all over and once it has absorbed it feels a little sticky. Any ideas why the white cast and sticky feeling? I intend to try some other of your recipes, maybe body butters, but I'm perplexed as to why so far all three recipes I have tried is basically giving me the same result of a cast and stickiness with the milky oatmeal version. I'm very new to this and trying to get this perfected. I'm not giving up just yet. I hope you can suggest something(???). I love watching your videos! I appreciate you very much! Thank you!
Hmmm, that is perplexing?? Since it's happened to all 3 recipes, I'm suspecting one of your ingredients may have an issue?? Perhaps try another makers recipe and see if it comes out for you?
Can't believe u said u have 6 grand children... u are so beautiful 🎉❤ love to age as u do ...❤ ur beautiful soul reflects as u are sharing so much of quality content
Hi again Ellen, can you please point me to an easy to use Lotion Calculator, I tried Lotion crafter and can’t figure it out, I want to learn how to create my own, but I have researched and can’t figure out how to calculate how much e-wax to oils and glycerine to oils, thank you so much for your help ❤
My family and I loves you recipes, we use many of them all year round. Do you have a summer time lotion that travels well in your purse, that will not melt?
Great video! I am going to have to try this. I'm a big fan of oatmeal-based lotions since I have super sensitive skin. Could you use oat milk in place of oat water?
Do you have to stick blend the oils and water? What if I just hand mix or use a small mixer like the kind to dissolve micas in oil? I will be trying such a small amount I think the stick blender is too big
I have to be honest. Why aren't you my neighbor? I would love to be your soap and lotion guinea pig. This lotion looks so lush. Thanks for sharing. Love from California.
Hi Ellen. Just wondering if it would be possible to blitz the cooked water/oatmeal to make a slurry then push through a nutbag. Would that be too concentrated? Also, living in arid Queensland, my soap room sometimes gets to over 35 degrees C (95F). Not fun soaping with an apron and long sleeves on.
Hi just wondering is there another preservative I could use besides optiphen? I live on an island in Canada and that type of ingredient is not available here and I looked up the price and it’s expensive to ship. Are there any oils or other ingredients I could use to preserve it? I found a cost Ed drive local one called DMDM, what are your opinions on that? If not, how long would it last without it? Do you think? Thanks ☺️ been binging you all day. Looking for some new product ideas
this is not a beginner's recipe...none whatsoever. Now if u r into making salves etc let's say some years u would know thru trial and error..why u need a scale just sayin..I would like to have a simple lotion perhaps...seriously.
Love how light the lotion is! What’s the shelf life of the lotion? I’ve always been interested in making lotions with fresh foodie ingredients but have been intimidated by the uncertainty of the shelf life. Thank you for sharing!
