Hi, I'm Ellen and I love to make Soap and other DIY Bath & Body products. Come Along as I create new formulations and experiment with fun ingredients. Thanks for joining me on this soapy journey!
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing Ellen. I need to order some calamine powder, and I have to give your recipe a try without the Olive oil. I get 7 lbs pure olive at the soap store and it's $34 or $38 dollars (can't remember) but I am doing a blend these days to make the olive stretch because of the price. Coconut oil too! Thanks again, Many blessings ❤❤❤❤
I had a salt bar recipe move really slow on me when I used some sweet almond oil in it. I thought it was never going to hit trace because the one I had made previously, without the sweet almond oil, hit trace really fast. Definitely the sunflower oil could have had that effect. I picked some up to try in a few recipes. I'm going to give it a try, we'll see how it goes soon🤞
Ohhhhhh this turned out FANTASTIC!! I have not tried anything to substitute olive oil, but you have me ready to try!!! After even more time, please do drop a quick update on any DOS? I’m sure gonna try! Thank you so much for sharing!!
Sam's Club now carries a Sunflower/Olive Oil mix. It's 101 ounces for $13.98, and 80% Sunflower Oil 20% Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Works out to $0.14 a fluid ounce. I bought some to use not only for cooking but to make body butters and creams. Thank you for all your beautiful videos and the inspirations that you have given me. Have a lovely day!
I switched from olive oil too, it's gotten beyond expensive. So, instead of olive oil I use half sunflower and still half olive oil. I stretch it out so to speak 😂😂😂
I switched from olive oil and have it split between canola and sunflower oils. I have not had any issues with DOS, and have a nice creamy lather for my soaps. The trace for the most part is slower, most of the time depending on the FO, and allows me a lot of time to do designs
I just came back from Cuba Ellen and my calamine soaps were so much appreciated along with the activated charcoal. Never made those together but that combo is a killer, beautiful and elegant and with a purpose ( not claims over here). Anyhow I was able to stock up on OO before the huge price increase , but I made a batch with 60% sunflower oil and I love it so much. It’s great and I am picky for my skin care ingredients but have to say, imo and for our extremely curly texture hair there is nothing better that works for us like canola oil. Also talking about “ not appreciated soaping oils, soy bean oil has the closest fatty acid composition to olive oil. So there is that. Regarding lather I am not going to bother you with a chemistry lesson but comes down to the fact that the manotón the water(liquid portion) evaporated and makes the lather improve. Thank you for another great video Elllen
Thank you again Ellen! You are so generous, and not just by giving your recipes out but also by including your viewers and recognizing them/us. You do such a great job of making people feel included by replying to our comments, stating that you read them, and just making us feel like we are right there with you! You really are a pleasure to watch and listen to. Thabk you!
Currently waiting for my supplier to open so I can go get the items needed to make my own calamine powder. I'm going to make this with tea tree oil and see how it works out! I made a charcoal and tea tree oil soap that I've been told has helped a friend's skin and that makes me so happy to know. The calamine powder just might up my game!!!
I generously spray the top of my soap with 99% Acohol(Amazon) as soon as I finish making it , and once more as soon as it evaporates a few hours later and I get a Shinny top every time.
Thank you for your instructional and inspirational videos, I love them! I’m new to cold process soap making, and your videos have helped me learn many things that a book can’t relay. Your soaps are beautiful and I enjoy listening and watching you create.THANK YOU!!
I find my bigger moulds un-mould easier than the smaller Amazon style ones. Freezing for a couple of hours helped me combat the dinging up of the edges xx
Is this good (calamine) for itchiness? Also instead of powder do you think the liquid would help? I have a friend who severe eczema and I want to help w making some soap
Gorgeous Ellen, you are such a darling soap maker. Gonna make this inspired by you. I LOVE Calamine and I LOVE Charcoal. What a gift this would be for anyone using this combo. A classic looking soap beauty. xxx
Calamine Powder is great in soaps and lotions for irritated skin. I put it in a lot of products for my son who has easily irritated skin, heat rashes, break outs, itching. I even made a face bar soap with calamine and colloidal oat. It feels so nice and he loves it. I'd recommend the powder over the liquid. The liquid is a prepared lotion and your friend could just use that.
