I use my green t-shirts to hold my young trees in place so that they grow straight instead of crooked. I tie them onto a wooden pole and it works very good for me. Even tomato plants probably would be good to

Hi April. The zip issue is caused by one fabric being stretch. I usually sew with some paper underneath the stretch fabric. It stabilises the stretch and then just rips away. Good luck
@katsmith6012
@katsmith6012 5 лет назад
You can also use some fusing along the zip seam to stabilise the fabric 👍

I LOVE THIS! everyone has old tshirts laying around. great upcycle! also, instead of making my teenaged daughter a "memory quilt", i can make her a "memory hoodie"! i think she'd appreciate that A LOT more!

This was brilliant. I have seen people use a single dress shirt but never have I seen someone use multiple T-shirts and better yet dye them so they are a similar colour. This has given me so many ideas.

It could be if you used a reversible separating zipper. They are hard to find (maybe special order?) but the slider at the top kind of swivels over so you can pull it from either side.

You need to stabilize the stretch fabric before installing a heavy metal zipper. I usually use stitch witchery to install my zipper first and then sew. Works like a charm.

I had some problems installing a regular zipper in the back of a jersey dress. The solution was using strips of interfacing at the edges of the jersey fabric! It ended up looking really great! :)

Damn genius. I don't have many thin jackets that fit me but I have a huge bunch of technical.shirts from races..great upcycle. And yes, sometimes it's okay to just let go, do the project and be okay with the imperfection!

Love and so timely. I spent yesterday afternoon volunteering at my school's GoGreen Festival where I turned T-shirts into bags. -I know this is done all over youtube, but if it wasn't for channels like yours, I wouldn't have had the nerve to try it. No one knew that it was my first time-lol!

I have quite a few tees and polos, so this is great! I especially love the way you did the zipper so that the jacket is reversible because you can make each layer different and show off different designs to suit your mood. I will have to have a few extra shirts, though, since a lot of my tees are saved from years ago and are too small now. Fortunately, that part won't be a problem!

Hi April you can cut a thin strip of fusing and iron it onto the centre front edge before putting your zip in. Make sure you dont stretch the fabric when you are ironing it on. This will give you a nice flat zip. Great videos btw!

The result is super cool, I love how you just do it. But I would sew the sleeves closer at the bottom like those you can buy and would take the fabric twice at the pockets. Try this next time. :) Oh, and you can only dye natural material (cotton, wool, ...), so maybe the shirts contain too much plastic (like polyester) and that's why they didn't dye so good.
