S. White sorry it only took 2 years to reply. I don’t YT much. Lol. The thrust bearing just falls apart, it’s too frail. Just use the washes and maybe an o ring to hold things together. The o ring will fall apart too after a couple of installs. I omitted that as well
Awesome thanks this worked. But I deleted out the lock washers because they were marking the rivnut and causing it to go in crooked. Still worked without them. You just saved me $100
dude! this is awesome! Ive messed with rivnuts before and had a horrible time with them when using the bolt and nut method. This time, using your method, was so so simple and highly effective - took less than a minute to put four of them in and not a single bolt broken. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
WOW! ...the best DIY Nutsert Tool by far... I adjusted the torque setting on my drill and 200 nutserts later into signage to hold composite panel...and not a single drama.... Winner Winner Chicken Dinner !! - Thanks for sharing dude !! Cheers from your friends Down Under :)
Yeah man. That works great. I've been trying to figure out a way to do this with an impact for a while now. Was using 2 wrenches and not doing too good. Thanks a lot. This does the trick!
thanks for video. I tried to install the rivet nuts with a racket and they weren't getting tight. I wasn't sure if the impact would break the nuts but it worked great!
You don't need all of that. You just need a flat piece with the right sized hole which isolates the rotational friction to the Rivnut. I agree that SOAD is useful here as an additional aid to engineering excellence
Great idea! Where did you buy your supplies...local auto part store, hardware store, or specialty store? I'm going to do this to fix my aluminum steps for my SUV.
i wouldnt use an impact wrench like this. this is how i broke off the the bolt in the first place on my project. putting on shock absorbers on my car. i would use the hand powered wrench so you can feel the rivnut getting tighter. might strip or break off bolt with power tool.
If you are doing this with small rivnuts you need a high strength bolt. I tried it with 6-32 rivnuts at least and the hardware store bolt broke in half.
Fantastic... I need to set up something for 1/4#20. The cheap tools just keep breaking without getting the fastener to crush completely. what coupler and washers would you recommend for 1/4#20?
frangkee go to ace hardware or your local hardware store; they have all the parts. Just don’t use the thrust bearings, they fall apart when too much pressure applied
Latest update is to NOT use the thrust bearings. They fall apart after multiple uses. I just use regular thick washers and it still works flawlessly. Also, the rubber o ring was a waste of time after about 5 nut installs.
bolt with same thread as rivetnut length enough to accomodate the rivet and washers/nut. washers to fit bolt size. nut large enough to slip over bolt with minimal slack.
Kenny Lauderdale the sizes vary on the rivnut you are working with. Just get the sizes that allow you to work with your rivnut as such. The main bolt going into the rivnut is the most important part of all of it.
