This DIY lounge chair is the first in a series of seating projects. Originally it was supposed to be a rocking chair but the rocking is minimal. I will post an updated template with a more dramatic rock to it shortly. This chair is a modern fusion of an Adirondack chair and a rocking chair. It’s a bit of a low rider, which makes it a little tough to get in, but once you do, it’s so comfortable that you won’t want to get out. I made a pair of these for my parents’ patio and they are frequently put to good use for late-night chats around a fire pit.

Awesome design. I never think to drill the pieces together when profiling the edges to get a uniform look. Using the 2x4's to raise the pieces when using the jigsaw was another nice learning from this. Keep up the unique projects

I tried a little edit to the design of this that seemed to work quite well. I put both of the support rods on the seat side of the chair and secured the back with two bolts, one of which is a butterfly bolt. detaching the butterfly bolt allows the other to act as a pivot point which allows the back to fold up under the seat for vertical storage.

Hello, thanks for the post. I would try it. Please note that your plans do not detail where the back is attached in WRT the bottom. Approximately can you let us know dimension from the front of the legs? Or can the chair balance if the back rest is little back? Thanks and regards.

Rope sounds like it might be to uncomfortable, Supposing as rope has sharp edges and is pointy.

not really, I sort of adjusted on the fly when i realized the proportions where more suited for a lounge chair. I will be updating the design and posting a version with a more dramatic rock to it shortly.

I'm just giving you crap. This chair is cool. Another comment mentioned it not rocking. You could attach a more rounded runner under it to rock, and you wouldn't lose your dimensions, except for the height.
