That larger one would make a great hot pad. Good for coasters too, cotton is so absorbent.

I love this video! I've made a basket using the cord/fabric wrap method. This looks so much easier. Must try it!

Great tutorial. I think Nancy would be pleased. Question for you. What is the name of the quilt pattern for the beautiful quilt that was hanging behind you?

When I get ready to try this I'll get that DVD/Book set. Looks relaxing. Is cotton thread by any chance the better to use or is a polyester?

🤗Great Technique 🤗 I have a question ' When you put the rope underneath the foot to make it even ' Would it be easier to use a Walking Foot? I know that quilting or sewing several layers of fabric goes smoothly using a Walking Foot so I wonder if it would be good for this project? I've always wanted to try this technique and make a few cute little baskets. I Love how this technique doesn't take yards and yards of fabric... Oh yeah 1 more question Can you use serger thread? I have a bag full of serger threads and haven't used a serger in quite some time. 🤗Thanks🤗 again for the tutorial. Great Project. I definitely want to give this a try... 🤗🤗🤗

Hi Catherine, Glad you enjoyed the video! You do not need to use a walking foot for this technique. A standard foot is fine to use and the extension of using the rope in the back acts like a "jig" to feed it through to keep it level. A walking foot is beneficial when quilting because you are using 3 layers and it keeps the top and bottom fabric layers even with the feed motion of your feed dogs. Since you are only feeding in one layer, it is not necessary to use a walking foot. We also recommend using an all-purpose thread for this technique. All purpose thread is 3-ply and serger thread is 2-ply which makes it not as strong as the all-purpose thread. Kate used a 30wt. variegated thread for the finished coaster and trivet shown on the video. (This would be another option of thread weight to use) Thank you so much for watching and commenting and feel free to use #nancysnotions and take a pic if you make this project!

Hi Deborah, Glad you liked the video! We created this video to show this technique and also give a preview to the Rope Sewing Reinvented program that Nancy Zieman and her guest Lindsey Zinno created on Sewing with Nancy. The book, Rope Sewing Reinvented, has the DVD included and the bag is demonstrated within the book and the DVD. www.nancysnotions.com/category/media/rope+sewing.do?code=NNOADV-1320 Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! :)

Do you think this project for a beginner? I really like the bag.
@NancysNotions
@NancysNotions 6 лет назад
Yes, this project would be good for a beginner. Just make sure they have a basic understanding of the machine to adjust for a zig-zag stitch to the desired widths and lengths. I also recommend practicing on some scrap cording or short pieces first just to get the hang of it. Happy Sewing and thanks for watching and commenting! --Laura from NN

would also be a good time to use the little hardly used “jean a ma jig” notion to place behind the foot.

To help the machine get started I’ve also seen used one of those foam type nail files. I’ve tried it when quilting & it has worked well. The machine just pushes it back out of the way as it gets going! Thanks for your tips. Am going to make some rugs and trivets for my friends’ camp as they let me go spend time with them.
