This was my second time trying to make shower steamers. The first time mixture expanded and activated so I got frustrated and didn’t want to waste anymore time or money. But I saw your video and decided to try again and …perfection!!! Your method was perfect and provided me with the perfect Christmas gift for friends. Well done, thank you!🎉
this was a great video. my first attempt at shower steamers didn't come out that great. i didn't understand what the texture was supposed to be. watching this video was very helpful when you actually showed us how it was supposed to hold its shape. thanks so much!
This is the recipe I am going to make!! Easy, I like that! I have ordered some molds and the citric acid so I'm good to go! Yey! Thankyou my dear for sharing this recipe!
Hi, what a great video and easy to follow. Your pace, demonstration , and explanation were perfect. I was just getting ready to buy some of these shower steamers for my daughter...This is my first time hearing about them. Thank you so much for sharing your secrets. God Bless from CA USA.
thank you very helpful video! I'm allergic to coconuts and almonds and have to make my own soaps just for me, because everyone I have contacted said there maybe cross contamination with their products and I would have to buy the whole lot/batch if I did want to go through with ordering. so I've been learning diy. the moon cake press makes them look so beautiful!
Thank you for your kind words. I do have a video of how I pack my shower steamers. Here is the link for ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ws6wAOUCrLU.htmlsi=mFuJFS03FdOp5goz
I had the same problem when I started, your mix might be too dry that is why they stick inside or crumble. Try to get your mix a little bit more wet, it may work.
I hope it’s distilled water if that’s what your using… due to molding due to contamination in regular water. Or some Carrie oils in small tsp amounts with alcohol sprays. I’d always recommend polysorbate 80 sue being around water expanding the life of any product plus it’s kosher. Keeps also tub or shower from staining
What a wonderful video with great explanations and tips! Thank so much for sharing 😊 Quick question: what does the cornstarch help with in this mixture?
Thank you for sharing your video along with tips and tricks! I followed your video step by step and tip by tip. The moon press worked wonderfully although I had a couple that were a little wet and they sort of flattened out a little, but I will get better in time. They hardened very well but I haven't really been able to smell the strong aroma while in the shower, even after trying in a lighter water area and in the main stream. Any ideas or things to keep in mind? I think I may try again with 1 essential oil (1.5tbsp) and may double the melted mental (2tbsp), thoughts on this?
Since you are trying the eucalyptus and peppermint shower steamer you can a stronger concentration of menthol crystals, that is more menthol crystals in the alcohol or try to melt the menthol crystals in the essential oils. Hope this helps.
This is a great easy to follow video and recipe. Do you add a carrier oil to your mixture? I didn't hear you mention one but wasn't sure if I missed it.
Love your video,so easy to follow, was wondering could I use witch hazel instead of alcohol.... Are something like vodka. Are mystic order a special type from a soap store.
Thank you so much. Do you want to know if witch hazel can replace alcohol to dissolve the menthol crystals? If so I am not sure as I have not tried it, but you can try it in a small amount. The alcohol that I use is the rubbing alcohol used for medical purposes.
Thank you for sharing. Your showers steamers are beautiful. What is your process for postage shipping? Do you print your shipping labels and ship or go to USPS, FEDEX, UPS store and use there services. Thank you!
Thank you for the compliment. I print my labels at home and I usually use USPS. I normally request a pick up from my home. But you can go to the stores and use their services.
These are beautiful! I found your video most helpful. I'm about to try to make my first shower steamers using menthol. How long do you allow yours to dry before you package them?
Hello I loved this video- where did you get your push mold that is interesting. I did go to your store and bought a soap and a package of these steamers. I love steamers.
Thank you for your review and your order. I will ship your order at the earliest. I got the mold from Amazon, it is called the Mooncake Press. They come in different sizes. Hope you will like the Soap and the Shower Steamers.
Great video, thank you for explaining why you do and don't use certain things. If using other essential oils is there a guide for balancing how much of each you use or is that just a personal preference ? And the colour showed nicely in your video :)
Normally when working with other essential oils it is a personal preference but if you are using any of the citric essential oils like orange or lemon you might have to rework the recipe.
@@itssimpleartisansoaps5694 Thank you for the reply. Do you have any advice on how to work those out? It is a sweet orange and then a lemon one I am hoping to do.
You can reduce the citric acid and proportionally increase the amount of cornstarch or baking soda. You can also try cream of tartar instead of cornstarch.
Hi, I do use other essential oils, I have video of how I make my lavender shower steamers. I like to use menthol in all my Shower Steamers, but you don't have to, it is a personal preference. Thank you for watching.
Thank you for the instructional video. I am totally new at this, so can you explain what was used for the color? Looks like a bit was edited right when you started to add it.
Hi, I use 'GooGou Resealable Zip Mylar Bag Food' from Amazon for packing and I use Onlinelabels.com for my labels. I call for blank labels and print it at home on my laser printer. I also put a Silica gel packet when packing my Shower Steamers. Hope that helps.
There is no expiration for this as such but the essential oils will dissipate after a while. You can store them in air tight containers, away from moisture.
I would not recommend for anyone to soak themselves in the shower steamers water as the concentration of the essential oils is too much and may cause irritation.
You can use any food grade citric acid. I got the below one on Amazon. Milliard Citric Acid 10 Pound - 100% Pure Food Grade Non-GMO Project Verified (10 Pound)
Hi, I have bought all the stuff to make these even the moon cake designs, but I still can't really get the design well on, and I put water already. Are there any tips you can give me? Thank you!
Hi, you need to first know if the mixture is too wet or too dry. I have a feeling that it might be too dry. Try the squeeze test to see if the mixture holds shape. If the mixture is too dry you just need more water, but if your mixture is too wet then you leave it to dry for sometime and keep checking on it and breaking the lumps that form. After sometime when you feel your mixture has dried a little try the squeeze test again and try to mold again. Hope it helps.
Great video. I will have to wear a mask on top of wearing gloves because corn starch causes me to have a severe allergic reaction. Your video was easy to follow. I found the press you use and I got it ordered.
@@itssimpleartisansoaps5694 thank you for letting me know that. Last time I had a reaction to corn starch and I didn't use my EpiPen, I got yelled at by the VA doctor in the Emergency room. They had give me shots to bring done the allergic reaction.
You can just leave out the menthol and mica powder. I use menthol because it makes the shower steamers more potent but they work perfectly fine without menthol. I use mica just to identify the shower steamers when I am at the Farmers market were I sell them.
hi, great video and explanation. but for me, cracking and splitting occurs. be of strange shapes. Are they too wet or dry? I don't know what I'm not doing well
Hi, I am not too sure what could be causing the shower steamers to crack, maybe too dry because in my experience when it is too wet they fizz and form warts. It is ok to not get it right the first time, it took me many attempts and recipes to get it right.
Hi, thank you. Citric acid helps with the fizzing of the shower steamer so that when warm water falls on it, it can melt and the essential oils can get into the steam. The shower steamer itself does not mist but the essential oils get into the mist from the warm water and it can be used as a inhaling treatment in the shower.
@@itssimpleartisansoaps5694 Ahhhhha! 😊 I wondered - since the ingredients are so similar to diy dishwasher tabs. I've also been trying to figure what makes the melts "steam". Makes sense with the 'explosive' reaction from the citric acid. Do you know is there a way to max the steam production...like more CA, more menthol, or hotter water? Also wondering if you ever use polysorbate 80 to help emulse? Thank you so much for explaining...and for your speedy reply. 👍💞
If you want the shower steamer to melt faster just reduce the corn starch. Hotter water is not recommended, because you need to shower in a water temperature that will suit you. If you personally like hot water then no problem. I do not use Polysorbate 80 in shower steamer because the amount of essential oils is to too much to make the floor slippery but you can add it if you want. These are just basic recipes that I use. You can change it as per your liking to personalize it.
@@itssimpleartisansoaps5694 Oh, good to know about the cornstarch, and I understand the water temp limitations. Ideally, I'm going for a harder melt (to last maybe 7-10 minutes), that vaporizes like a champ, and is about half the size of yours. Thank you again so much for answering. Happy sudsing! 😊
@@wisedove7I have heard that adding Epsom salt helps to harden shower steamers. I added it to mine and hopefully it will help w transportation of the shower steamers.
Thank you. I dissolved 5gms of menthol crystals in 20gms of 99% rubbing alcohol. You can use more menthol if you like the menthol to be more powerful. I use less because I don't want the menthol to be overpowering my essential oils. Hope that helps.
The shaper/mold is called the moon cake press and I got it from Amazon. I keep the shower steamer away from direct flow of water. I just let the water drizzle on it. You can keep it in a well draining soap dish if you like.
@@itssimpleartisansoaps5694 ok thanik you! My question is because weigh changes from cup to cup..some are small, soma are big...I try now in fact jajaja I try your recipe
I never had a problem with just 2 tablespoons of cornstarch but you might want to add more cornstarch or use cream of tartar if you want to ship the shower steamers.
@itssimpleartisansoaps5694 thank you. Also, I made them using your recipe and they flattened out. Not melted, but just got flat when I left them to dry. It's hot here in California, about 90 degrees, do you think that did it?
I live in Texas, it gets to 90 degrees here as well but it never flattened out for me. One reason for it to flatten may be less moisture in the mixture. You can try to add more water and see if it binds together. Having the right moisture is important, too much or too little will affect the end product. Even the weather can cause problems, I don't make shower steamers or bath bombs when we have humid weather.
I followed your recipe but when I’m at the bottom of my mixture it feels dry and doesn’t hold anymore and I ruined it when I sprayed some more water 😅 what did I do? The first ones are perfect tho…
I am so sorry to hear that the last few didn't set properly, at times the weather plays a major role. I don't like to make shower steamers and bath bombs when it is humid.
