That jacket!!!!!! 😍 It reminds me very much of traditional Japanese sewing techniques, especially with the quilted belt. Something similar would have been worn as a utilitarian everyday outfit to work in, indigo/navy color with white quilting top stitching for beauty and reinforcement (sashiko). Lately kimono style clothing and sleeves has been appreciated in fashion, but I’m even more excited by these other details!
@PatternScout
@PatternScout 3 года назад
thanks so much for watching and for the history info! This style is definitely inspired by Japanese styles (the shape is so classic and great for easy sewing while still being just a beautiful shape). I love the sashiko techniques I have seen, although I have yet to try it in a more traditional sense. :)

wow, love the top you have on in this video, I make all my own shift and pinafore dresses as I have broken crooked back and have to custom make my clothes to accommodate my back , lucky I can sew and have done lots of my own sewing for many years, my mother taught me how to sew when I was 12 years old and I persevered reading the patterns several times till I worked them out. the reason that I make my dresses is I could never get the right colour that I liked or the right style, or the shop had sold out of my size all the time. Since I broke my back, I had to cut my dresses with sleeves into pinafore dresses because the sleeves no longer looked right, so I stick to tee shirts under the pinafore dresses, which I can get to fit my shoulders and back better, I might try your wrap top could be another option for me, and your interfacing trick is fantastic, !

Hi, I know this is a bit late in the game. I mean it's only been three years since you published this one. Then again: if I don't ask, I for sure won't get an answer. My question is about the re blouse/top you're wearing while presenting this video. Is there a video of how you made it? I tried to figure it out on by myself, but met with failure. It's a model of blouse I've been looking for, but my medical issues only get me from laying on my bed a couple of hours per day, so any shortcuts to finding a pattern and watching someone sew it would be very much appreciated. By the way, that wrap top in red is so nice (I can't stand my face in any green because it's make make me looking ill, but yours look nice, lovely and soft), and I never thought of making a blouse in a color that can be a bit overwhelming on me as a dress, but I do love. Your blouse here looks a bit like a Haori, and I have been looking find someone that gives "instructions" on how to put something like that together (outside of Japan). With my lower time for for making, being able to find someone to show me the way, is invaluable. It also means that I'll be a perpetual newbie I'm also unable to write succinctly as you can see. Yours, Ann

Excellent video! I really enjoyed watching how you construct your seams and how precise you were. It really, truly shows in the finishes garment. I have l those skills, or rather know the techniques (oops the facing was new -- superb btw!) but fir sis reason it was really enjoyable watching you execute the blouse. I am subscribing and actually been wanting to do skill share, I will take your slower class fir sure if I can. Oh and I can’t agree with you more about end,was possibilities! It’s really empowering I think. My creative mind is pretty quirky and I love doing the unexpected in everything I make, nothing too crazy, but doing something unique. Because I can haha. I love your top, the one in the intro, btw! You are really pretty and you seem to have a great command of what looks good on you, I’m impressed.

When she mentioned about the rotary cutter ( did I say that right???) When she mention it in about how you can slip and cut your garment it gave me flashback on me cutting my finger! I had my mother's rotary cutter in my sewing machine bag it was in one of the pockets and I did not know it broke so I dug into the pocket to grab it and instead of grabbing it, it cut my finger it went through one side of my finger into my fingernail and came out the other side so I had stitches on the sides of my finger and not my nail cause the nail held my finger together not to mention they would have had to taken off my nail just to put stitches there... So they decided to leave the nail. That's my reason for not using a rotary cutter cause I'm a klutz, accident prone what ever you want to call it, that's me 😒😏🙃🤗

Hi there love your channel. Is there any possibility of a pattern? I'm just not good at drafting my own patterns, but if I can purchase one yay.

This is awesome! Any chance these will become patterns?!

Thanks! I'm not sure if I'll make them into patterns or not since they are so simple, but you may be able to find something similar by searching for robe or kimono style patterns!

Who clicked on this video, and thought, " I want to learn how to make the top SHE is wearing right now! I love the pattern and style!" Just saying..so..do you have a video on how you made that gorgeous top? Lol
@PatternScout
@PatternScout 2 года назад
Haha you are not the first! It is a pattern from another indie designer, Victory Patterns. The name is escaping me at the moment but I linked it in the video description :) I should do a tutorial for something like it though because it is so easy and cute!

Both of these are so beautiful! Thank you for the amazing tutorial. I'm wondering if we already have a boxy top pattern that we like, can that be used as a starting point and then just follow the instructions to draft the wrap? Clearly I'm procrastinating making a bodice sloper...
@PatternScout
@PatternScout 3 года назад
Haha I totally understand procrastinating on the bodice sloper! :D But yes! I think you could use just about any top that you like the fit of as a starting point, just something to benchmark the length and width of the bodice and sleeves. Thanks for watching, Danielle! :)

@@PatternScout awesome! I'm getting so many ideas. It might even be cute layered over a Nikko top for winter.

Loved it! Hope to try both of these styles; this is exactly what I was looking for. Is the collar on the second version attached in a similar way to the facing on the first version? Look forward to doing your bodice sloper course x
@PatternScout
@PatternScout 3 года назад
Thank you for watching! For the second one, the collar is just a straight strip of fabric (folded in half lengthwise) attached to the wrap edge, but it is not turned to the wrong side like a facing. It stays exposed. Hope that helps!

Casey I watched this video many times and I saw you sewing the tie on one side and how did you do the tie on the other side? Did it in the seam?
@PatternScout
@PatternScout 3 года назад
Oh, the other tie is also sewn on the same way, at the wrap edge. One tie goes through the little slit in the side seam when you wrap it around the waist. Hope that helps! :)
