HOW TO DIY Replacement of the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 etc Ford f-150 4.2L V6 Tensioner Pulley that makes a loud screeching, squealing, squeaking sound. I approached this automotive repair as a diy'er who might have limited tools or a diy'er who wanted to make the repair with minimal disassembly .
many videos suggest taking apart your covers, fan guard, air assembly, fan & serpentine belt to access this tension pulley but that's not necessary . In this video we remove the Alternator and access the tensioner in no time
Tools used Gearwrench 24" Long 1/2" drive breaker bar, Stanley 1/2" drive 12 point 15mm , 13mm sockets, Gearwrench 1/2" to 3/8" reducer & 13mm deep 6 point socket , ‪@LisleCorporation‬ 3/8" drive T50 Torx socket , @michaelpro 3/8" drive locking indexing ratchet, ‪@harborfreight‬ 1/2" drive Pittsburgh Pro Flex head ratchet, Craftsman long picks/Hooks, wire brush, 8mm & 10mm sockets for the battery and the parts used were ‪@DaycoOfficial‬ tensioner pulley & serpentine belt from Car Quest
Hopefully this video helps you out .

all idler pulleys with tensioner is the best thing to do .Dont over tighten that bolt for the tensioner ..I nearly stripped mine because the bolt was a bit froze from a small bit of corrosion ..I wanted to be sure it was tight ,it kept spinning ,it would not tighten ,so I put grey Teflon tape on the threads at that saved the day ... I took my fan clutch off and got the shroud out of the way and it made the job much easer

Thanks Bro, just got one for 100$ , just squeals. Will try running without belt for a minute to see if it's a bearing, hopefully just tensioner.

Good video thanks. Will be doing the pulley below the tensioner pulley, and more directly under the alternator soon as it has seized up and broken the serpentine belt. Hoping that pulley also has the torx socket , fingers crossed..

Worth noting is some less expensive tensioner pulleys like the Linerts I just bought aren't as wide as stock but are wide enough and stay centered on the belt. Smart play with tensioners and pulleys is bring your old ones when buying at the auto store. I removed the (LEFT HAND THREAD) tensioner pulley bolt so I'd have the bare pulley in hand for comparison to be sure I had a correct match.

I changed this in a 2000 f150 4.2 because of a rattling sound in drive at idle. Didn't get rid of the rattling but its for sure coming from the tensioner. Its out of warranty so I'm going to try again with the one you suggested.

I got an 07 4.2 and it's making a rattling sound when I turn on the AC at idle it's getting pretty loud. Hoping it's not something else on the belt did you seem to fix yours
@J1SMOKES
@J1SMOKES 2 года назад
@@nickwheeler1652 it ended up being the belt. I just needed a new belt, the old one was stretched causing the tensioner to rattle because of lack of tension

Thanks for the video. One question. My belt tensioner won't budge when I try to release the pressure, any idea why?

What if I just want to replace the pulley only? Is that center bolt a reverse thread; and, is there any con to just replacing the pulley only? Great vids. Thanks Again, You really helped me out.

Use deep penetration WD-40 on bolt and gently tap bolt with a hammer a few times with out damage the threads
